FIRST TROPHY FOR MAZARRON FC 2014/15
]This competition took place just out side of the quaint little village of Miranda, just north of Cartagena. The pitch is own by the community and it's natural grass surface was in excellent condition. Not the biggest of pitches but the playing surface and the gardens and trees surrounding the 'campo' was a pleasure to see.
The three teams taking part in this triangular tournament were Juvenia from our division, the primera autonomica, Miranda, the host team from a lower division and Mazarron FC. The competition was part of the villages local fiesta and was sponsored by clinica Rover who is the shirt sponsor of Mazarron FC with the owner of the clinic and lives in the village.
Each team played 45 minutes against the other two sides with the winner claiming the main trophy
On arrival at the ground the area was decked out in flags and bunting for the fiesta with rows and rows of tressle tables, a stage for music and a well stocked bar and kitchen so roll on the final whistle.
At the time of the start of the first game it was clear blue skies with the temperature reading 35 centigrade so it was into the shade of the manicured trees whilst the young men sweat on the pitch.
On arrival Mazarron FC had 20 players ready for action with a number of old faces in amongst the squad alongside players from Cartagena and Totana including two goal keepers.
The first game was between the local side, Miranda and Juvenia and it was a hard fought encounter with Juvenia grabbing two late goals to give them a respectable 4-2 victory.
Mazarron's first game was against Miranda and was a one sided affair but with an early scare when new boy Christian, who joins us from Soho Med, missed an absolute sitter when put through by Tolo and the ball was cleared up field to give a one on one situation and to give the Miranda player credit pulled the ball down with aplomb and slotted home the ball passed the stranded Mazarron keeper.
Miranda 1 - 0 Mazarron FC
There then followed a period of play when Mazarron peppered the Miranda goal but either the keeper, the woodwork or the ref denied chance after chance, it was one way traffic, all in the direction of the Miranda goal
Mazarron's equaliser had to come and it came in the shape of Bryan who battle to retain possession of the ball after receiving it from Tolo working on the right wing and he thumped home the ball to bring the sides level.
Miranda 1 - 1 Mazarron FC
If Mazarron had scored another 6 goal before the final whistle it wouldn't have been a surprise but the winner came from the same player as Bryan slipped home a delightful
goal following a 5 player move which moved the ball from the left wing to the right, back to the center before being slotted the ball into the back of the net.
FINAL SCORE
Miranda 1 Mazarron FC 2
NEXT GAME
Juvenia, who had just had 50 minutes rest, then took to the field. They were a side that we played last season losing away and winning at home.
This was game played at an incredible speed taking into consideration the heat and it was a very even game from the start. Mazarron brought on 5 new players including Alberto but stuck with the Christian and Tolo strike force. The keeper was changed and Dani remained at the heart of the defence.
The game went from end to end both sides having chances with Juvenia hitting the post and a new Mazarron player missing a sitter but the first goal came from Juvenia when an inch perfect pass split the Mazarron defence and with three Juvenia forward bearing down on his goal, Rabbit, yep that's his playing name, stood no chance in preventing Juvenia taking the lead.
Juvenia 1 - 0 Mazarron FC
Mazarron then went looking for the equaliser and it came from a move started by Alfonso on the right wing when he placed the ball, from a free kick, onto the toe of Christian's boot who smashed it home from just out side the penalty area.
Juvenia 1 - 1 Mazarron FC
The winner came from our 30 goals a season man, Tolo, who brought the ball in from the left wing, beat two defenders and "nutmegged' the Juvenia goal keeper.
FINAL SCORE
Juvenia 1 - 2 Mazarron FC
Following the football game and the trophy presentation plates and plates of fine Spanish food were brought to the groaning table along with free beer, wine and soft drinks for the assembled crowd. As I left everyone one was set for the day/night and I bet they will have as good a time as I had watching Mazarron FC win the first trophy of the season.
EDIT: Photo of Alfonso being presented with the trophy by the village beauty queen!!!!!
