Nope....they were 6th in the Primera and missed out on the extra promotion place to Juvenia in 5th. The team that didn't make it is Ciudad de Calasparra from last season's Preferente who folded earlier this month.

The change in numbers in the Tercera for the season 2016/17 (from 18 to 20 teams) is hurting my brain!
The Fed have now said this about this season's Preferente.....
"They ascend to Tercera Group XIII the first three of the category and descend to Primera Autonomica, the last three placed teams." (NOTE NO PLAYOFFS!)
Let's try some simple maths! Assuming no one drops out of 2B into the Tercera, to get the extra two teams means (probably) only one being relegated from the Tercera to the Preferente.
If the Preferente is losing six in promotion and relegation, it will mean they will need to promote FIVE from the Primera to keep the numbers as this season!

Our new manager, Victor, took the first training session tonight. 29 players trying out including a large proportion of last seasons squad including Cristian, Alfonso, Carrasco, Andreo, Juan Andreo, Steven, Dani, Juanillio, Enrique, Munir, Brian, Gines, and many more with lots of new faces. Victor and his assistant took a very professional warm up session followed by small squad games then full side games. Last seasons coach, Javi, in attendance as well helping out. Steve

As I drove back from the pre season game at 11pm on Friday night with the temperature still at a barmy 35 centigrade my thoughts turned to what I had just seen.
Prior to the game I spoke to Javi, last seasons manager who enthused about how the team were coming together and his prediction of another strong promotion campaign. But he added that a number of regular players were missing for the Aguilas game due to work commitments including most of the defence, Juan Andreo, Alfonso, Enrique just to name three. But having said that Mazarron had a full squad plus 8 substitutes on the field of play.
Mazarron opted to start with Pablo the young juvenile goal keeper between the sticks and I was hoping that he would be afforded a lot of protection from an Aguilas team who have been together for a number of seasons and were playing their fourth preseason game as opposed to this being Mazarrons first outing with a hell of a lot of new faces.
After 25 minutes I knew how Australia felt after day one of the Trent Bridge test, shell shocked after receiving a "Broad-side" as the home team led 5-0 with every goal coming from the right winger who was terrorising Dani at left back. Every cross he made seemed to find the head or foot of an Aguilas player with the young Mazarron keeper being at fault for just one of the goals following a mix up with one of his defenders. Mazarron then tightened their defence and the sieve stopped leaking goals with Munir dropping back to help Dani.
After half time it was all change as every player got "playing time" under their belt and with the left back position shored up with Munir doing an excellent job the Mazarron came more into the game.
The new keeper made an excellent save following the award of a penalty to Aguilas but was not at fault for the two second half goals that he conceded, they were just good goals.
Mazarron did get on the score sheet with what was perhaps the best goal of the game being thumped on the volley from outside the area past ex Mazarron keeper Javi Soto who was rooted to his line. The goal was scored by Jean, a new French recruit to the team.
As the final whistle went Javi again came across and sad it was an excellent game to get some fitness into the players and some game time for the players trying to establish themselves in the team. He will be emailing me with the details of the next pre season game as soon as he can confirm them.
Final score
Aguilas FC 7 Mazarron FC 1
Team
Pablo (GK) Juan, Munir, Toni, Dani, Juanfran, Jean, Andreo, Silveno, Stefandro, number 11 who's name I can't decipher
Subs (all used)
Antonio (GK), Rollon, Antonio, Bryan, Juanito, Juan, Eloy and number 16 who's name again is unreadable.
