WILL DERBY TURN TO A FOREST REJECT FOR THEIR NEXT BOSS? A former Nottingham Forest manager has been linked with the vacant Derby County job – but it is not Billy Davies. Davies took the Rams into the Premier League before being sacked in the 2007/8 season, when they picked up just 11 points from 38 games. Instead another Scot, Alex McLeish, is attracting interest from Derby, who sacked Paul Clement yesterday. McLeish has enjoyed varying levels of success in a managerial career which has also seen him take charge of Rangers, Birmingham City, Aston Villa, Motherwell, Hibernian, Genk and Scotland. Not remembered fondly in Brum. After coming 'South' he achieved a 37% win rate at Blues, 21% at Villa and a marvellous 14% at Forest! Did get up to 50% at Genk though. Maybe should have stayed in Belgium.

TROUBLE AT T' MILL?
Is another Leeds manager on the way?
Leeds were thumped by Brighton last night and afterwards chairman Massimo Cellino, who departed at half-time, ordered boss Steve Evans not to speak to the media.

BUT IT'S NOT ALL GLOOM AND DOOM IN THE ENGLISH LEAGUES
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has become the longest-serving manager in European football after Ronnie McFall left Portadown.
McFall was in charge of the Irish Premiership side for 29 years, but resigned on Saturday evening following a quarter-final defeat to Lurgan Celtic in the Irish Cup. During his time with Portadown, McFall won four league titles and over 20 trophies after taking over in December 1986.
He became the longest-serving European club boss in 2013, when Sir Alex Ferguson retired as Manchester United manager.
Wenger was appointed by Arsenal in 1996 and is on course to mark 20 years in his post on September 22.

Walsall appoint Whitney
Walsall have appointed Jon Whitney as head coach on a game-by-game basis.
Whitney had previously been first team performance coach and replaces Sean O'Driscoll, who was sacked after Saturday's home defeat by Barnsley.
Walsall are fourth top in League One.
That's strange, Forest were fourth when they sacked O'Driscoll, what has this man got to do to keep a managers job?

THIS AXE IS TAKNG A LONG TIME TO FALL
The Sun claims that Newcastle manager Steve McClaren has told friends he is ready for the sack.
Newcastle United Fans' Forum has sent a damning letter to the board of the club demanding "action and accountability" for the current crisis at St James' Park. (ITV)
A roll call of head coach Steve McClaren's failures this season hammers the point home, along with calls for "11 players in black and white shirts that understand their role to perform to their maximum - week in, week out".
And away from McClaren, injury-strewn French winger Sylvain Marveaux is said to be calling time on his spell at the club when his contract expires in three months' time. He signed in 2011 from Rennes but has made just 13 Premier League starts.(Chronicle)
Newcastle striker Ayoze Perez admits "something must change" if they are to escape relegation this season. (BBC Newcastle)

Manager set to take over from Steve McClaren?
RAFA BENITEZ has been offered the Newcastle job until the end of the season. Toon managing director Lee Charnley has been in talks with the Spaniard for the last two days.
And Benitez, 55, is now considering the proposal, which includes a massive bonus and a long-term deal if he keeps Newcastle up.
The Toon board earmarked the ex-Liverpool and Chelsea boss as their top target to replace doomed Steve McClaren on Monday.
Benitez was then contacted by an intermediary acting for Newcastle, before discussions with Charnley began.
The relegation-threatened Magpies are even willing to rip up their head coach model to bring in the former Real Madrid manager.
Benitez, who is back living in the Wirral and has turned down a mega-bucks move to China, has used pals to do his homework on Newcastle. And he has so far indicated to Charnley he would be keen on the job.
Work still needs to be done to finalise a deal, but Newcastlewould like Benitez in place before Monday’s match at Leicester.
They have also not yet sacked McClaren, who is furious at how he is being treated by Charnley. The ex-England gaffer, 54, has been left in limbo to take Newcastle training for the past two days.
Yesterday, McClaren was summoned to an afternoon meeting with Charnley at St James’ Park. But he did not report for the scheduled talks and instead returned to his home in Yarm, ready to lead his players again today.
It is a farcical situation which sums up both 19th-placed Newcastle’s season and Charnley’s reign. And many at the club have sympathy for how McClaren, who is liked as a person by all, has been kept on while his replacement is lined up behind his back.
The Magpies squad are also expecting an imminent change. But the uncertainty is hardly helping their preparations for Monday’s visit to the Premier League leaders

AND GUESS WHAT?
Rafael Benitez has been confirmed as Newcastle's new manager, following the sacking of Steve McClaren.
The former Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Valencia boss takes over with the Magpies in relegation trouble.
They lie one place off the bottom of the Premier League table, just a point from safety with 10 games left.
Benitez, 55, has been out of work since January, when he was sacked after seven months in charge of Real Madrid.

ANOTHER ONE ON THE BRINK?
Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka is considering his future at the club.
The 42-year-old Spaniard, who took charge at the Riverside in November 2013, left Boro's training ground unexpectedly on Friday after a row.
Boro, who travel to Charlton on Sunday, are second in the Championship, four points behind leaders Burnley with a game in hand.
But, having led the table by six points on 12 January, they have won just three of their past 10 games.
The club's hierarchy are trying to convince him to stay.
Hang on, wasn't Steve McClaren a manager there? Is he available?
And a statement from the club:-
Middlesbrough Football Club can confirm that Aitor Karanka did not take training on Saturday morning."Assistant Head Coach Steve Agnew will take charge of the team for Sunday’s fixture at Charlton Athletic.
"We appreciate supporters will want to know further details, but at this time the club cannot make any further comment and is solely focused on Sunday's game at The Valley
UPDATE 15-3-2016
NOW HE DECIDES TO STAY
Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka says he "never wanted to leave" the club despite missing their last game.
Karanka, 42, was absent from Sunday's trip to Charlton as he considered his future following a row, leaving assistant Steve Agnew to take charge.
"I had a meeting today with the players and the staff because we have to be together," he told the club's website.
"It's the only way we can achieve our aim [of promotion]. I couldn't put the crowd in the room as it was too small."
The former Real Madrid player and coach added: "I think the club and me had everything clear. The club never thought to sack me and I never wanted to leave."

AND THE NEXT TO GO IS.......,
My very own Dougie Freedman
Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Dougie Freedman after 13 months in charge at the City Ground.
Forest have lost five of their last six games in the Championship and lie in 14th place after Saturday's 3-0 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday.
Former Forest striker Freedman replaced Stuart Pearce in February 2015 and won 19 of his 57 games as boss.
