'Ere we go, 'ere we go, 'ere we go...................
11 mins - Brazil score - at the wrong end! Brazil 0-1 Croatia.
28 mins and Neymar starts his claim for POTT...1-1.
70 mins and Neymar's WELL on the way.......2-1 (penalty).
90 mins and it's all over now ... Oscar makes it 3-1.

Penalty?
A Home team ref who couldn't allow Brasil to lose. I only hope that the standard of the officials improves.
Croatia are talking about going home (they won't) and I don't blame them.
Did you see the solution to the brown pitch for the England game? Spray it green, now if only Jose had thought of that:-)

And we've now got the first incorrect off-side decision in Mexico vs Cameroon! Should have been a Mexican goal for Dos Santos.
You have to feel sorry for Dos Santos! A second goal ruled-out for off-side which patently wasn't! The flick on, from a corner, came off a Cameroon player.
Any chance the referreeing will get better?
70 mins...Poor old, poor old Giovani D.S.! Misses a sitter, but at least Peralta puts the rebound away. 1-0
---------------------------------------------------------
Now for the BIG one.....Spain vs Netherlands.
Looks like the Dutch are picking up where they left off 4 years ago! Count the fouls!
Also replicating 2010 when Robben couldn't beat Casillas 1-on-1. This time it's Sneijder that Casillas outfoxes! More caps than Shilton (155)!
Why don't the Dutch just play the skilful football they can. Too often they revert to strongarm tactics. De Jong won't last 90 mins - prediction No 1!
Well, it took 24 mins but the yellows have started!
And 25 mins - the ref gets it right....PENALTY to Spain! Alonso makes it 1-0.
40 mins and a second yellow for the Dutch!
44 mins and the Dutch show what they CAN do when they play football! Superb pass and launched header by RVP makes it 1-1.
50 mins and is this the end of Spanish world dominance? Robben makes it 1-2.
It always was a risk that Diego Costa would play the Atléti way! He's lucky to still be on the pitch!
64 mins and another contentious refereeing decision puts the Dutch 3-1 up.
72 mins - Casillas shows why he's second choice at Real Madrid....4-1 to the Dutch.
80 mins - 1-5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Who was the last team to put 5 or more past Spain???
You will not believe it when I tell you it was 51 years ago TODAY in the Bernabeu, Madrid!!!
S C O T L A N D !!! (6-2 they won a friendly)
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Late night soccer - 11 mins gone and a 'Spaniard' gets on the scoresheet!
Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez makes it 1-0 for Chile vs Australia.
14 mins - Sanchez involved again. Pass to Valdivia and it's 2-0.
Men vs boys - I'm out!

There were a lot of glum faces on the paseo last night as I left after having a meal out. And not just because I was going home :-)

Just back from my daily walk along the paseo and boy are there some glum faces down there.
But just remember that Spain lost their opening fixture 4 years ago and then went on to win the competition.
It's a funny old game.

Hmmmmm....if Costa Rica carry on playing like this, England could end up FOURTH in the group!

Time for a period of quiet contemplation!
But we've had our first success - Rooney sang the National Anthem - sort of!
WE'RE GONNA WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
..or maybe not....34 mins and Italy are in front.
Incidentally, is Rooney playing?
He must have heard me .... superb cross....Sturridge on the end of it...1-1.
Glen Johnson must still be in the dressing room! 1-2 (Ballotelli)
As Guy Mowbray says, "That is it!" Night, night.

In the cold light of day, I'm beginning to believe that Rooney is morphing into David Beckham! Can't tackle, can't defend, doesn't track back, but sits out on the wing and pops in the occasional decent cross.
A luxury Hodgson can't afford - bring on the Ox!

Germany vs Portugal.
Not surprising who's got a red card....Képler Laveran Lima Ferreira, commonly known as Pepe. He's a real liability for any manager.
Half time 3-0. The Germans trying to emulate the Dutch!
And it's the first hat-trick....for Thomas Muller. 4-0
Is he on course for the second Golden Boot in a row?
--------------------------------------------
Iran vs Nigeria
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Brazil vs Mexico
Great game....but we may have another 'home' ref here! The Mexicans are helping by staying on their feet!!!
Not bad - for a 0-0 draw!
MOTM - Mexican 'keeper Guillermo Ochoa. More trivia....which club team does he play for? Answer - he doesn't! He played last season for French club Ajaccio but left them when they were relegated to the 2eme division. Any offers?

Stupendous!
Tim Cahill with a 'wonder shot' less than 60 secs after Robben had put Netherlands ahead. 1-1
52 mins - penalty to Australia!
Perfect penalty! Australia take the lead! 2-1
Same again....just over 60 secs later and Holland equalise! 2-2 Game on!
Oh dear....oh to have Mark Schwarzer in the Aussie goal!
Young Mat Ryan doesn't read the swerve and the Dutch go 3-2 up.
A brave fight - but not brave enough. The Dutch get the points. And with goal-difference being the decider, their trouncing of Spain means they are almost certain to progress to the knock-outs.
But we'll certainly put the Cahill goal on for GOTT!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
It's hard to understand why the Spanish do not learn how to defend! They stand off the attacker, they get in each other's way, they neither mark players nor pitch zones.
Surely someone on the coaching staff has a defensive training manual!
1-0 to Chile.
What HAS happened to Casillas in the past two years. Is it just age? He just has no confidence now. A poor punch out comes back and it's 2-0. Spain are on their way home.
And because he's got no confidence he's not leading the team. They're a rudderless armada!
Del Bosque and Hodgson have a lot in common.....misplaced loyalties!
Spain out - It won't be a good night on the paseo!

Jammy buggers, I was hoping for the 'socceroos' to cause an upset.

Very quiet on the 'morning after'. Even though it was 29 centigrade on the paseo the mood was very Chile.
Spain's early exit mean a hell of a lot of 'lost trade' for the bars down there and for the Spanish football shirt sellers on the Saturday/Sunday markets.

I bet Prince Charles is hoping for a Uruguay win tonight, Why?
Spain lose and the next day the Kings gone. The king has gone, long live the king.
So if England lose will the axe fall on Lizzy???
King Charles and Queen Camilla? Doesn't bear thinking about.
Off with her head, step forward Charlie boy, your on next.
