France v Nigeria.
More good goalkeeping from Enyeama.
But it's the Arsenal vs Chelsea battle that's interesting! Who will go the distance? Giroud or Mikel. Some tasty tackles about!

ADMISSION BY SUAREZ Breaking news on the BBC football siteLuis Suarez sorry for Chiellini bite at World Cup 2014Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has apologised to Giorgio Chiellini for the bite that earned him a nine-match and four-month ban from football. The Uruguay forward, 27, was suspended from all football for biting Italy's Chiellini in a World Cup match. Suarez has previously said he lost his balance and did not bite Chiellini. "The truth is that my colleague Giorgio Chiellini suffered the physical result of a bite in the collision he suffered with me," said Suarez in a statement. So he tells lies as well as bitting people, there's a surprise.

Well, that's a turn up for the book....Germany 0-0 Algeria....into extra time!
But you have to assume the Germans will last the better.
Don't tell me it's that scrappy old goal that'll settle it!

Two interesting games tonight.....
Messi Messi vs Swissi Messi
...and...
Tim Howard vs his Belgian mates (Lukaku, Mirallas and Fellaini)
Let battle commence.....................
......anyone know why Di Maria is playing on the right? Those Champ. Lge. crosses from the left are what Messi needs!
THAT'S why Di Maria's on the right!!! Drizzling Messi run - slip it to DM and it's 1-0 to Argentina!
And THAT's what the WC should be about. Passion, agony, ecstasy....right to the 125th minute.

EUROPE v THE AMERICA'S So much for the much heralded African/Asian challenge this world cup. It's now down to the two power houses of football to dispute the trophy. A lot of the so called 'top teams' have fell bye the wayside but there is still a number of quality sides left in. For me I would like the hosts, Brazil, to win but I have a feeling that they will struggle to get to the final. Germany look their usual selves, strong, organised and with a good squad. But I will go for a shock and pick Costa Rica to go all the way. I've been there, lovely country, nice people, with a great, young team at the moment. Yep that's my choice. Costa Rica.

Golden Boot leaders after the first knock-out stage....
Rodriguez (Colombia) 5, Muller/Messi/Neymar - all with 4 goals.
Yep, the big three all came up goalless in that round!

Only watched bits of it but couldn't stomach it I'm afraid!
On the other hand....Brazil vs Colombia must be the 'worst' game of the tournament for skill/style/technique/plan but one of the best for excitement!
And I reckon el arbi has left his cards at home!
Blow me down with a feather! As soon as I say that, he books Thiago Silva for an innocuous rush on the keeper having ignored a scandalous shoulder charge on Neymar!
And how about that for a set piece!
And with 12 mins to go.....penalty to Colombia...great for the game!
And James Rodriguez goes way ahead on 6 goals - a goal in each of his games!
But a shame he's reached the end of his road!
Bring on Brazil vs Germany.

Our man Keylor Navas (he started this thread back in January remember?) keeping the Dutch at bay.
I see he's being chased to replace Casillas at Real or Courtois at Atletico and there's even talk of Guardiola being interested at Bayern - tho' Wiki says Neuer has just extended his contract there!
Well, that wasn't bad for a 0-0. And we've got some more English interest with 'Geordie' Tim Krul on in goal for the Dutch penalties!
And he's between the sticks to start......
And he misses the shot 1-0 to Costa Rica
Van Persie up next...
Only just - but it's 1-1
Tim Krul shows why he got the call.....still 1-1
Robben makes no mistake 2-1 to the Dutch
Mind games - but Gonzalez wins the battle 2-2
No mistake from Sneijder 3-2
We're at 3-3 but the Dutch have the advantage
And Dirk Kuyt makes it 4 out of four for them
And finally, a second save by Tim Krul puts the Dutch through

WHAT A KRUL WAY TO GET KNOCKED OUT OF THE WORLD CUP. The best young and talented team remaining in the competition knocked out by 'Windy Miller' and his mates. Bringing on a specialist penalty saving goal keeper reminds me of American football 'special teams' "Just not British old chap" So my support now goes to.................. Brazil. Can't be 'Windy Millers' lot, never forgive them for their dirty tactics against Spain last time and their negative ploys this championship. Can't be the 'Crocodiles' they bombed our fish and chip shop. Can never forgive the 'hand of god' So that's the Argie's out. So just the home team but they will struggle without their missing stars.

"Juan Zuniga has apologised to Neymar after the Brazil striker was ruled out of the World Cup following the Colombia defender's challenge.
Zuniga insists he did not mean to hurt Neymar in the incident, which Fifa's disciplinary committee is studying."
I feel a Mandy Rice-Davies moment coming on - "he would say that wouldn't he?"
Neymar doesn't yet have the skills to avoid these sort of attacks. Which took place throughout that game. Mind you, I suppose it's pretty nigh impossible to avoid a full out knee in the back!

If the national anthems are any guide to motivation, it'll be a cake-walk for Brazil.
10 mins - Müller goes to 5 for the tournament! Brazil 0-1 Germany
22 mins - Klose goes past Ronaldo to all-time WC goals. Brazil 0-2 Germany.
25 mins - before I'd had time to get third posted and it's a Wolstenholme moment......they think it's all over.....it really is now! Brazil 0-4 Germany.
28 mins - Brazil 0-5 Germany....must check the odds on double figures (...might be worth a punt - 250/1 for a 10-0 win).
Half-time.
The one thing I can't understand is that Brazil have had 47% possession! Motivation ended with the national anthem.
68 mins - another 'record', biggest margin in a WC semi-final - 0-6 (Schurrle)! (Keown - 'will the Germans now declare?')
78 mins - and even the locals are applauding - amazing strike from Schurrle 0-7.
90 mins and the records are all to pot - Brazil score! 1-7
