FINAL SCORE
MAZARRON FC 1 EF SANTA ANNA 4
And I really don't understand how we lost this.
Perete, th juvenile coach, came to this game with his hands somewhat tied behind his back. Five of his best players had been withdrawn from his team so that they could travel with the senior team to play Los Alcazares later in the day. Those vacancies were filled by players from the Segunda team who had played 24 hours previously. With the match being played in temperatures over 30 degrees those players who had performed the previous day found the going tough.
Within 9 minutes of the kickoff Mazarron were 0-2 down, the first goal was a bit unlucky after the keeper had made a fantastic fingertip save the ball rocketed off the post hit his back and went in. Their second came from a corner and was headed in by an unmarked player.
Santa Anna then completely changed their formation and just left one up front with the remainder defending, strange, especially after just 9 minutes.
Mazarron replied half way through the first half from a dead ball situation to the left of the goal which was nodded in.
A few minutes later Steven burst into the box and was brought down, penalty. The ball was placed on the spot and then hit to the right of the goal. A pity as this could have been a turning point.
Mazarron continued to batter the Santa Anna defence which stood firm.
The second half started almost identically to the first with Santa Anna scoring two quick goals. The first followed a Mazarron attack where the ball was cleared THREE times off the line before being hacked forward by the keeper, it fell to the only player in a white away shirt who was up field and he slotted home passed the onrushing Mazarron goal keeper.
The second came from a corner which again was nodded in. 1-4
Santa Anna then shut up shop by reverting to the 1-9-1 formation and despite repeated attacks by Mazarron the score remained the same. Santa Anna had 4 shots on goal and all went in, but I suppose that's what footballs all about.
