HOW THE MIGHTY ARE FALLING
Aston Villa Football Club has suspended its chief executive just days after losing the match badged as the most lucrative in world football, as it faces the potential threat of a winding-up order over a multimillion pound tax bill.
Mazarrón forum sources have learnt that Villa, which last month lost the Championship play-off final against Fulham, has been given a brief extension by Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs to make the payment.
One source said the bill was due to be paid last week, and that the grace period to make the payment could be as short as a week.
If HMRC did serve a winding-up order against Villa, it could threaten the existence of one of the founder members of the English Football League in 1888.

FIRE SALE AT ASTON VILLA
Aston Villa have reportedly said last week that they're willing to listen to offers for virtually every player. Does sound like hard times ahead. Not the only Championship club feeling the pinch.
Owes the tax man
Payroll tax not paid
Club owner looking to sell.
Top players jumping ship
Not a time to be a Villa fan.

ARE VILLA IN FOR A CRASH LANDING?
With their ‘parachute payments’ finishing next season and the club in ‘free fall’ and a fire sale of their players, well those who haven’t already ‘bailed out’ are Villa in for a crash landing?

MORE FUN AND GAMES AT VILLA
Aston Villa's finances have been dealt another blow with the news that they owe John Terry £560,000 in wages unless he finds another club this summer, according to reports.
Villa reached an agreement with HMRC to delay a £4m payment last week, but another is due at the end of this week and club owner Tony Xia may have to sell shares to produce the necessary funds
Terry announced that he would leave Villa following their play off final defeat to Fulham last month and his contract officially expires at the end of June, although he is entitled to another month's pay for July.
Terry was earning £70,000 a week during his one season at Villa Park, so these two months add up to £560,000 in additional wages on top of what has already been paid to the former England captain.
However, the July salary will only be relevant if Terry remains a free agent or retires, so Villa are hoping that he will find a new club.
It has been reported that Villa could find themselves unable to pay staff members at the end of this month, a situation that Tottenham are hoping to take advantage of in their pursuit of Jack Grealish.
Villa also need £40m in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, as their business model was based on the gamble that they would get promoted to the Premier League.
MEANWHILE
Gabriel Agbonlahor, Christopher Samba and Mark Bunn are also out of contract this month and will be owed severance pay unless they find new clubs, although none of their wages on are on the same level as Terry's.

THE CHICKENS HAS COME HOME TO ROOST
After ducking and diving for a couple of seasons the ‘Hoops’ have eventually been hit with a huge fine for breaching the EFL’s FFP rules on expenditure.
Teams must learn to live within their means or face the consequences for not doing so. Who’s next in the firing line? Aston Villa? Derby County? Leeds United?
QPR FINED BY EFL FOR BREACH OF FFP RULES
QPR have been fined almost £42m by the EFL for breaching FFP rules. They’ve also been placed under a transfer embargo for the January transfer window.
FULL EFL STATEMENT
“The outcome vindicates the approach of the EFL Board in defending the challenge to our Rules.
In agreeing to the settlement above, the Board was conscious that the financial burden placed on the Club had to be manageable, so as not to put its future in doubt when considering that after this season the Club will no longer benefit from the promotion that was the catalyst for the dispute in the first place.
QPR remain a valued member of the EFL and a great community asset. We look forward to continuing our productive working relationship with them for many seasons to come and are delighted to bring this long-running dispute to a conclusion.”

AND BIRMINGHAM ARE ALSO IN THE BROWN SMELLY STUFF 💩
Garry Monk is desperate for Birmingham City’s EFL transfer embargo to be lifted ahead of the new season...
He says “I’ve been assured since I came to the club that it won’t be a problem for us. Of course, ideally you would like to bring players in.
Every club would like to bring players in from day one but there are situations where it’s not possible. We’ve still got a lot of time. Like I said, we’ve been assured that issue will be taken care of and we’ve still got time to bring in the players that we want.
I know that it’s still ongoing, the talks with the EFL, and like everyone else I have to wait on the outcome.”

ADD BOURNEMOUTH TO THE LIST
The settlement over historical FFP spending with Fulham F.C. is the second to be reached this month by the EFL, with Bournemouth paying just £4.75m - having originally been expected to pay a fine of £7.5m - for breaking rules when they won promotion in 2014-15.
Who’s next? Villa?

PROBLEMS ‘UP NORTH’
Newcastle United players are refusing to co-operate with the media in a dispute with the club over bonuses.
Players did not make themselves available to rights holders on Monday for 'walk-up shots' which are used by TV companies when showing starting line-ups before matches.
And the Magpies squad refused to carry out post-match interviews after two recent pre-season friendly defeats.
Newcastle start their Premier League campaign at home to Spurs on Saturday.
Players declined to speak after last Saturday's 1-0 home loss to FC Augsburg and the 4-0 hammering at Braga on Wednesday.
It is understood they have failed to reach agreement with club owner Mike Ashley over performance-related bonuses.
After the Braga defeat, Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez said the club's fans "need to be concerned".
"Things are not going well off the pitch and you can see a reflection of that on the pitch," he said.
Players have indicated the dispute is with the club and is "nothing personal" towards the media.
