🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶 FINAL HOME GAME OF 2018 🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶🎅🏻🤶
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - Game 20
Scheduled for Sunday 23/12/2018
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON ‘Pedro Mendez Mendez’
MAZARRON F.C. v C.F. LORCA DEPORTIVA
Well that’s it, 2018 done and dusted with an exciting 2019 in front of us. This time last year we were playing in the Preferente Autonomica and had just moved into the playoff places. We now sit at the top end of the fourth level of the Spanish football pyramid the Tercera Division so all in all that’s not a bad 12 months. There were trials and tribulations on the way but with our stalwart support the lads in red have done us really proud.
LAST WEEKEND
For the final away game of 2018 Mazarrón FC traveled away to FC Cartagena ‘B’ where it was another bad day in the office. With a final score of FC Cartagena 4 v Mazarrón FC 1 the run of poor results continue for the lads. This result moves Mazarrón down into 9th place. Maybe, just maybe the manager needs to be looking over his shoulder if the results don’t improve and quickly.
Meanwhile our next opponents were at home to Ciudad de Murcia, a team who have turned their season around following a disastrous start to their footballing year. In a hard fought game Lorca came up trumps with a 1-0 win with the goal coming in the 89th minute.
C.F. LORCA DEPORTIVA
Our opponents suffered relegation from the third tier, Segunda ‘B’ of the Spanish league finishing 20th and with much publicised financial problems both on and off the field they have done extremely well to turn all their traumas around and have maintained their place at the top end of our league and are looking for a quick return to the division from whence they came. Expect a large travelling fan base from Lorca for the game, but we home that our Christmas festive spirit does not extend onto the pitch and they return home with their Santa’s bag empty of points. And talking about Santa, make sure that you wear your Santa hat next weekend 🎅🏻🤶

Absolutely shocking. A betrayal of loyal fans. A season ticket means a ticket for the WHOLE SEASON.
Shame on whoever took this disgusting decision.

AS VICTOR MELDREW WOULD SAY “I DON’T BELIEVE IT “
With regards to Sunday’s game for once I have slept on my thoughts of what occurred at the Pedro Mendez Mendez stadium yesterday and I am still confused and a little bit upset to say the least.
Let’s break it down into various areas of the game.
THE GAME
Mazarrón FC produced an excellent first 37 minutes of football, bossing the game in all areas even though the match officials decisions hindered their progress, but more of that later.
Mazarrón had a number of good goal scoring opportunities before taking the lead. We had noticed, from the sparsely occupied stands (club day?) that the Lorca keeper was wandering way out of his area on regular basis and Basi obviously saw this in the 18th minute when a beautiful lob over the keepers head nestled into the back of the net.
Lorca were trapped in their own half, unable to break out and relying on long punts up field to elevated pressure on their goal.
THE ASSAULT
On 35 minutes the ball was launched long into the Mazarrón half and Peña collected the ball on his six yard line falling to the playing surface to ensure its security. At this point a Lorca player, number 6, who goes by the name of ALI DIAKITE, I will capitalise his name, he deserves it, ran in and kicked Peña in the left side of his temple. He will of course say that he was going for the ball but by the time that he had assaulted Peña, and it was an assault, the Mazarrón keeper had already collected the ball, gone to ground and was gathering his thoughts when the boot went in. If this was Saturday night in any city center and this John Fashanu lookalike had kicked someone in the head he would have spent the night in the cells.
The result of this assault was Peña being help/carried from the field of play to a waiting ambulance. His son who was in the stands with his mum was in fits of uncontrollable tears and what of the thug who caused this mayhem, a yellow card, a yellow card, unbelievable. The thug was replaced at halftime presumably to prevent retribution’s being taken by the home side.
Peña was replaced in goal by young David. If you can imagine your grand son in an oversized goalkeepers jumper standing in the huge expanse of a full sized goal as you put ball after ball passed him on Christmas morning then you have the picture of our last line of defence. Why haven’t Mazarrón got a proper second string keeper, well they have. Carrasco, who is the goal keeping coach was the Mazarrón keeper a couple of seasons ago, he was there, why isn’t he registered? David did his best but I’m sorry but from that incident on Lorca saw that there was a boy between the sticks and took full advantage of their opportunities.
Mazarrón, from a team running the game now ‘parked the bus’ and only rarely ventured into Lorcas half, they held out until half time then the flood gates opened.
Shots rained down on the Mazarrón goal all of the second half with the obvious result being a Lorca win, it was a sorry sight to see at the end when young David had to be consoled after letting in 5 second half goals. Boudia did pull one back, to little to late.
THE MATCH OFFICIAL
From the get go we knew what was going to happen. The ref might as well had worn a Lorca shirt. He booked Mazarrón players SEVEN times of which perhaps two were justified. He is recorded as only booking one Lorca player although he actually booked two, the thug who put Peña in hospital and another. He even reduced Mazarrón to 10 men in the 84th minute when one of his bias decisions was queried. On his journey home to his house in Lorca I hope that he reflects on his own performance and hangs his head in shame, in fact ‘SHAME ON YOU’
CONCLUSION
This was a loss but not as the final score reflects. The loss was caused by a brutal assault on our one and only senior keeper, the lack of foresight by the club’s management to ensure that Mazarrón has an adequate replacement for Peña, and a match official, in my opinion, who should never officiate in a game of football ever again.

MAZARRON FC 2 CF LORCA DEPORTIVA 5
A first half injury to Mazarron's outstanding goalkeeper Antonio Pena turned this game around as they continued their downward spiral in the league.
Pena made a good save to collect a right wing cross shot in the sixth minute and at the other end a free kick by Salva Ballesta was headed into the Lorca keeper's hands by Nacho as both sides strove for early supremacy. The home team took the lead in the 18th minute when Basi latched on to an excellent pass down the right wing, cut inside and cleverly chipped the ball over the onrushing keeper into the back of the net.
It was an even game at this stage with few chances but Lorca had a header from a right wing cross well over the bar on 31 minutes. Pena was injured on 37 minutes when he bravely dived at the feet of Lorca's Ali Diakite to save at point blank range and received a kick on the head for his pains. He was treated on the field for several minutes and recovered sufficiently to walk assisted off the pitch before being replaced by Juvenile goalkeeper David. Ali Diakite received only a yellow card for this violent challenge. If the referee saw it as a foul, which he did, he should have sent him off.
Mazarron's defence managed to protect the young keeper and their 1-0 lead for the remaining few minutes before half time.
The referee Ignacio Alcaraz Bernal was doing his best to ruin what had been a decent game. He blew for free kicks very time a Mazarron player challenged for the ball, yet allowed worse challenges from Lorca players to go unpunished. Mazarron came out with the intention of trying to defend their narrow lead and young David saved a shot from outside the area at the second attempt in the 51st minute. It was all Lorca now as Mazarron got as many men as possible behind the ball .
The inevitable equaliser came after 65 minutes when Adrian struck a left foot shot from the edge of the box into the corner of the net giving David no chance. On 71 minutes a right wing free kick found Mansour unmarked and he turned the ball past David from close range.
A minute later David punched away a dangerous cross and he then made a diving save to keep out another shot from just outside the penalty area. However. Lorca increased their lead in fortuitous fashion after 76 minutes when Gato's clearance rebounded off Adrian into the net.
Two minutes later, in a rare attack, excellent work by Diego down the left saw his cross headed firmly into the roof of the net by substitute Boudia to give Mazarron some hope. Unfortunately, Josema was sent off after 84 minutes after receiving a second yellow card and two more Lorca goals followed in the 87th and 89th minutes from Andres and Mansour to complete a miserable day for Mazarron.
Five other Mazarron players were booked but only one from Lorca. The referee's performance was diabolical.
Once again Mazarron's tactics were questionable. With strikers Habib and new signing Borja on the substitutes bench, midfielder Jose Da was assigned a central striking role with Mazarron's best striker Basi once again exiled to the right wing.
In addition the short sightedness of having only one experienced goalkeeper on the books finally caught up with Mazarron. Since Cristobal left the Club just six games into the season, he has not been replaced and Mazarron have used juvenile goalkeepers on the bench for every game since then. Hopefully Antonio Pena will have sufficient time to recover over the Christmas break but another goalkeeper must be a priority. It was sad to see young David leave the field in tears, he did his best and should not have been placed in that situation.
One point from the last four games should be a massive wake up call. A team challenging for promotion a few weeks ago is now looking over its shoulders at the relegation places, just nine points away.
Team: Antonio Pena (David); Josema; Gato; Adrian Campoy; Nacho; Andreo (Borja); Basi; Heredia (Boudia); Jose Da; Diego; Salva Ballesta.
Man of the Match: Andreo.

It’s reported that Peña is back at home for Christmas and is well on the path to recovery following the kicking that he received during the Lorca game. He says that he is looking forward to getting back out onto the pitch again.
Happy Christmas and have a great new year Peña.
