SECOND HOME GAME ON THE BOUNCE
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE
GRUPO UNICO - game 18
6pm (18.00) Saturday 14/01/2017
To be played at ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v MONTECASILLAS F.C.
Following last weekends great 3-2 win against top side Cartagena Mazarrons next opponent is a different kettle of fish.
Monticasillas FC have been hovering around the bottom of the table all season and only have two wins from 17 games so far this season BUT one of those were in the opening fixture of the 2016/17 season against.......yep Mazarrón FC.
So what went wrong on that day? Here is a résumé of the match.
MONTECASILLAS FC 1 - MAZARRON FC 0 (27.8.2016)
The new look Mazarron team had only captain Juan Andreo from last year's team in the starting line up, Mazarron made a bright start forcing an early corner following a long throw by Chino. Rubens' shot from 25 yards out was just wide of the target and Mazarron's defence was coping with anything the home team could throw at them.
As both sides settled down Ruben and Javi had shots just wide for Mazarron with Montecasillas's main threat coming from corner kicks apart from a late first half long range effort which was well over the crossbar.
The second half began with Montecasillas looking more dangerous and an excellent free kick was just wide. Both sides were looking for the opening goal as play swung from end to end and Raul Torrano's shot was saved by the Montecasillas keeper. At the other end Pablo saved another Montecasillas free kick and yet another long range effort sailed well over the bar.
Both sides made substitutions as Montecasillas started to control the game. A Mario Gomes free kick was just too high but the same player broke the deadlock with just 12 minutes remaining with a header which just, and only just, found its way over the goal line.
The goal spurred Mazarron into action and Raul headed over the bar from Moha's cross. Substitute Andreo shot well over before the referee signalled the end of the first game of the season.
CURRENT STATS
9th MAZARRÓN FC P17 W 7 D 4 L 6 GF 21 GA 17 Points 25
17th MONTECASILLAS FC P 17 W 2 D 5 L 10 GF 13 GA 31 Points 11
LAST WEEKEND
Montecasillas fought out a 0-0 home draw against Los Garry's and had a player sent off in the process. Although playing in almost all of their games this season he hasn't a goal to his name and is not a stranger to yellow/red cards.
Their join top scorers have just two goals to their name each so you can see where their problems lie.
With Mazarrón sitting 4 points off the playoff placed they cannot repeat the result of earlier in the season and three points should be the outcome next weekend, but hey this is football
Details of suspensions will be posted here when known along with other team news.
