NEXT HOME GAME
Scheduled for SUNDAY 23rd OCTOBER 2016
MAZARRÓN F.C. v U.D. ABANILLA
Our next opponents are another new team for me, I cannot recall playing them in the 12 years that I have been following Mazarrón FC. The team comes from the village of the same name and is situated north of Murcia to the east of Fortunate.
Last season they were crowned as champions of the Primera Autonomica and promoted to our division where they are easily holding their own. The UD in their name stands for Unión Deportiva.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND
Well what can I say about the game in Minerva where Mazarrón suffered a 3-0 away loss. We were second best for almost all of the game, struggling to string two passes together and as leaky as a sieve at the back which is unusual for our boys. The officials didn't help much with some very strange decisions and yellow/red cards only appropriate for Mazarrón players. The result doesn't help Mazarrón with their attempts to push further up the table.
Meanwhile UD Abanilla were at home to Montecasillas when they came back from a goal down to win 2-1 although the Montecasillas squad did see 6 yellow and 2 red cards during the match. This result has taken Abanilla into the playoff zone whist Mazarrón sit in the lower reaches of the division.

CHALK AND CHEESE
Mazarrón FC 3 UD Albanilla 0
What a difference a week makes, from last weekends inept performance at Minerva, Mazarrón certainly turned on the style for Saturday's game against Albanilla.
From the outset the home side dominated the play with the visitors seemingly not having a clue where the Mazarrón goal was.
On display for the first time was Mazarróns new left sided attacker who goes by the name of Jimmy De Los Reyes HELGUERA GARCIA, so will now be known as 'Jimmy King' and plays number 7 and his inclusion was even noted by our old striker Tolo who tweeted that Jimmy, who has joined us from Aguilas, is an excellent players and he wasn't far off the mark.
Jimmy soon formed an excellent partnership with Chino on the left and their overlapping runs caused Albanilla heaps of problems throughout the game. As early as the 9th minute these two combined to give Jimmy a shot on goal which was clawed away by the visiting keeper.
But it was the same goal keeper who was at fault for Mazarróns first goal. A move on the right saw the ball a fair way out of the Albanilla goal area which their keeper ran out of the penalty box to clear but only to Andreo stood halfway between the halfway line and the goal and as cool as a cucumber he slotted the ball back over the keepers head to open Mazarróns account.
Lack of finesse and fine goal keeping accounted for Mazarrón not increasing their lead with shots from Raul, Jimmy and headers from Boudia and Steven, making a rare start for Mazarrón, either being off target or tip round the post for a corner.
Mazarrón even colluded to fail to take a gilt edge chance to increase their lead when Raul was dumped onto his ample behind in the penalty area as he was about to pull the trigger. He took the spot kick himself which in all fairness it was well struck but the keeper did a 'Joe Hart ' taking the sting out of the shot by knocking it up before making a double save to prevent Mazarrón going further ahead.
But Mazarrón were not to be denied for long. The second goal was created by the excellent Andreo, who has grown in stature since his promotion from last seasons promotion winning juvenile side, beating two Albanilla central defenders he found Chino clear on the left who put through Jimmy for his debut goal easily beating the floundering keeper.
HALF TIME Mazarrón 2 UD Albanilla 0
Young Jose, another product of the Mazarrón juvenile team, came on at half time to add to the home sides fire power as the boys in red continued to dominate the game.
Jimmy and Chino were terrorising the Albanilla right sided defenders and some of the interplay was a delight to watch. Boudia and 'Sam' tidied up at the back Andreo was in the middle directing play and poor old Pablo in the Mazarrón goal had to keep running around to keep warm.
Chances came and went but at no time were the home side under threat and attacked at will. The frustration of the Albanilla players started to show as the second half progressed as the amount of fouls and free kicks awarded against them started to mount. These frustrations lead to the visitors being reduced to 10 men following quite a nasty tackle by the visitors number 5 on Antonio which he followed up by punching Antonio in the face right in front of the female official running the line. Antonio understandably reacted and received a yellow card but the aggressor was shown a straight red. Justice done. There was a bit of an unfortunate situation then arose when a can was thrown from the elevated stand occupied by our young Spanish supporters at the offending Albanilla players an incident brought to the attention of the referee. We await the outcome of this incident but such actions have no place at Mazarrón football club.
Now one man to the good Mazarrón then proceeded to stretch the visitors by playing the ball across the pitch and Albanilla were being run ragged. How Mazarrón didn't increase their lead I don't know but the offside flag stopped a number of promising attacks and poor finishing, snatching at chances, played its part.
But again Mazarrón were not to be denied and it was the substitute Jose smashing a fine cross from the left past a rooted goal keeper that made it 3-0 in the 79th minute.
The remainder of the game was exclusively played in the Albanilla half and if this was a boxing match the ref would have stopped it to prevent any further damage to the visitors such was Mazarróns dominance. And remember that at the stat of the game Albanilla were 8 places and 10 points ahead of us.
FINAL SCORE Mazarrón FC 3 UD Albanilla 0
The man of the match bottle was presented to young Andreo, awarded not only for his fine opening goal but for the control that he had exerted on the game.
