Hola
SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA FC v MAZARRÓN F.C.
or "oh I do like to be beside the sea side"
SATURDAY 3rd or SUNDAY 4th MAY 2014
What a pleasant day out this promises to be with the opponents ground only a stones throw from the Med and an opposition who are rock bottom of the league with the 'wooden spoon' waiting for them. Certainly a game to make a 'day of it' at the sea side, get there early have a paddle then a meal then onto three points for the boys in red. Or am I tempting fate?
To say Santiago de la Ribera have had a bad season would be an understatement the only surprise is that they haven't thrown the 'towel in' long ago. But to their credit they have stuck with it until the bitter end for which they should be given credit. But to make matters a bit more difficult their manager resigned over easter.
Santiago visited Mazarron in late December and were set packing with a 5-0 defeat on the day and here is what happened:
Mazarron made no mistake against Santiago de La Ribera with a comprehensive 5-0 win with the only disappointing was that the margin of victory should have been much greater.
It was a game which Mazarron totally dominated from start to finish. Yet they had to wait 43 minutes before a great ball from Jose Da saw Jose Ruben running clear of the visiting defence to slip the ball past the Santiago keeper to give Mazarron the lead. Before that Ruben, Cecilio and Alcon had all missed good chances but Tico made no mistake in first half injury time with a delightful free kick from the edge of the penalty area which he curled round the defensive wall to make it 2-0.
The second half was the Jose Ruben show as he continued to torment the worst defence in the league. First he set up Tico who shot wide. Then excellent interplay between Ruben, Alcon and Jose Da saw Ruben’s cross cleared at the near post. Ruben then played Juanillo in with a delightful threaded pass but the young substitute fired just over the bar.
After his clever back heel from Alfonso’s cross was saved by the Santiago keeper, Ruben again burst into the penalty area only to be fouled by the keeper and Alcon blasted the resultant penalty kick into the roof of the net to give Mazarron a 3-0 lead after 80 minutes.
Two minutes later Ruben scored his second when the Santiago goalkeeper could only fumble his shot over the line. Mazarron continued to dominate the game and the unstoppable Ruben was once again fouled in the area but this time Alfonso took the spot kick which was saved. However, Ruben had the last word in the 90th minute when he once again raced clear of the defence and coolly slotted the ball home at the near post to complete his hat trick and make the final score 5-0.
Team: Ruben (Noguera). Alfonso, Randry (Dani), Juan Andreo, Alcaraz, Tico, Moha, Jose Da (Gilberto), Jose Ruben, Cecilio (Juanillo), Alcon
Man of the Match: Jose Ruben
ABOUT SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA
Santiago were promoted last season from the Segunda Autonomica league having finished 8th and have found the step up a bit difficult for them.
They play their home games in San Javier with the stadium only a 100 metres from 'Iceland supermarket' The excellent 'Pitin' stadium has an artificial surface, excellent seating with a well stocked canteen and well maintained toilet facilities, so no problems there then.
Last time out they came unstuck at Esparragal going down to a scoreline of 3-1, the same as Mazarron.
Santiago's leading marksmen are JESUS SILVA LIBOREIRO with 6 goals and JUAN MANUEL CHINER SANCHEZ with just 4 goals to his name, they are really struggling to find the back of the net
Santiago's home strip is pale blue shirts and white shorts so we should be in RED.
CURRENT STATS:
12th MAZARRON FC P 29 W 12 D 3 L14 GF 62 GA 53 Points 39
18th SANTIAGO DE LA RIBERA P 29 W 2 D 6 L 21
GF 26 GA 94 Points 12
So Mazarron could easily push Santiago over the 100 conceded goals next weekend.
DIRECTION TO THE GROUND:
As I have previously mentioned Saniago's home ground is situated next to Iceland supermarket but if you haven't been there before!!!! here's how to get there.
For those of you who have sat nav's the co ordinates are: 37° 48' 33" N, 00° 49' 52" W
The ground is situated just 79KM and 48 minutes away from Camposol.
There are many and varied way of getting to San Javier airport so I would suggest that you take your preferred route and then follow these directions once you leave the AP7 motor way at junction 784 which is the turnoff for the airport.
At the bottom of the slip road at the traffic island take the 3rd turning on the right towards San Javier and stay on this road until you reach the football ground.
Along this road you will need to pass over 4 traffic islands then at the 5th follow the road to the right then left and continue on the main road. Pass over another traffic island and after a short distance you will see Iceland on your right with the football ground some 100 metres beyond.
I would advise an early start so that you can take in that paddle and have a cool drink, have a great day at the game, pickup any shopping at Iceland, if it's open, and then a a quick trip back home.
