MAZARRÓN FC v AD ALQUERÍAS
Kickoff 12 Noon Sunday 2nd March 2014
The change from the normal Sunday afternoon kickoff time to midday is down to the fiesta in Mazarron on Sunday, but there again it's better than the 7pm on Saturday evening that was originally suggested!! But just think, Sunday midday in the sun watching football and then off to your chosen watering hole for Sunday dinner, what could be better?
Maybe, after the match, have a bite to eat in town and then watch the Carnival threading its way through Mazarrons main street. Starts around 4pm and will include a whole bunch of children, parents and helpers from Murcia Dance. Well worth a look.
So for you entertainment and delight next weekends home fixture is against AD Alquerias and gives Mazarron FC the opportunity to do the "double" over another team in our league because here's what happened earlier this season when we played at their place.
AD Alquerias 0 Mazarron FC 3
Mazarrón returned to winning ways with an excellent 0-3 away victory at A D Alquerias who had started that weekend in second place in the Primera Autonomica.
Mazarron FC were hindered by the absence of the suspended Jose Ruben, again, but welcomed, the now departed, Noguera in goal for his his debut, and it was Mazarrón FC who started the game brightly playing some excellent football on the synthetic grass surface which seems to suit the teams style of play.
Mazarrón took the lead in the eighth minute when, the now departed, Jose Da slammed the ball home from 12 yards.
0-1
After 41minutes Juanillo had a goal chalked off for offside which was a pity after the young winger ran on to a superb through ball from SAM and slipped the ball into the corner of the net only but the linesman's flag was raised.
HALF TIME 0-1
The talisman, that is Cecilio, replaced Juanillo at half time and Alquerias were now limited to occasional breakaways by a resolute Mazarrón defence superbly marshalled by Alcaraz and Juan Andreo. And it was one of these stalwart defenders that almost doubled Mazarrons lead when Alcaraz met a free kick taken by Tico but the header just slipped by the post.
But the lead was indeed increased shortly afterwards when Cecilio powered onto a defence splitting long ball out of defence and bravely headed the ball over the onrushing Alquerias keeper into the net whilst also taking out the keeper.
0-2
Two minutes later Mazarrón were awarded a penalty when Alfonso was fouled right on the edge of the penalty area. Alfonso took the spot kick himself and blasted the ball home.
FINAL SCORE 0-3
Since this game Alquerias have dropped from 2nd to 8th place in the league but still sit 4 places and 5 points above Mazarron FC.
Last weekend they were at home to lowly El Esparragal when they ran out 7-2 winners with El Esparragal helping out with 2 own goals!!
Just to repeat our game against Alquerias has been moved forward to 12 Noon on Sunday due to the Mazarron fiesta later that day.
