It has been a long time since I was at Sangonera's ground and many things have happened to that club since that last visit, And I don't have many happy memories of playing there, often being on the end of a good beating.
Founded in 1996, Sangonera reached the Trecera division in the following year, going on to spend one full decade at that level. They achieved promotion in the 2007-08 to division 2B.
In the next season they finished a creditable 9th and finishing 12th in 2009-10 but, as often the case, the club was forced to fold, due to an accumulated debt of €340.000 from previous seasons. Subsequently, the franchise was transferred to Lorca and renamed Lorca Atletico.
At the end of the 2012-13 season and following the demise of Corvera C.F. again due to financial problems, although finishing a creditable 14th in the league despite their money problems, Corvera FC sold the franchise to Sangonera and so that team rose from the ashes whilst Corvera started again from the bottom of the pile.
LAST TIME WE MET
Sangonera visited Mazarron on the 6th October 2013 and we suffered, undeservedly, the first home defeat of the season and here is what happened.
Sangonera went to the top of the Primera Autonomica with an undeserved 1-0 victory at the Estadio Municipal against a Mazarrón team who must still be wondering how they failed to win this game. The tactics employed by Sangonera were cynical and have no place at this lower level of Spanish football. They targeted Mazarron’s star striker Jose Ruben and their players fell to the ground dramatically almost every time Ruben was in their vicinity. Their blatant playacting, bordering on cheating, was obvious to everyone at the game with the exception of Senor Don Harkaoui, the referee.
Ruben was finally sent off 10 minutes before full time after yet another theatrical swallow dive by a Sangonera defender when challenged by Mazarron’s Pescao with Ruben seemingly only a nearby onlooker. The sending off created mayhem on the pitch, with Mazarrón players rightly incensed both by the behaviour of the Sangonera players and the ineptitude of the referee. At the final whistle there appeared to be a mass brawl between the two sets of players as they left the pitch and it was quite some time before the referee and his two assistants were able to retire to the safety of their dressing room accompanied by Mazarrón Manager, Antonio Lorente.
As for the game itself Sangonera took the lead in the first minute when young goalkeeper Ruben could only fumble a seemingly harmless header from Miguel Angel Gimenez over the line. Mazarrón should have equalised after 16 minutes when Jose Ruben outpaced the Sangonera defence only to see his shot saved by the onrushing keeper. Three minutes later, Tico’s free kick found Chema at the far post and his shot was deflected by Ruben towards goal only to see the excellent Sangonera keeper tip the ball onto his own cross bar.
Alcaraz hit a tremendous shot from 30 yards just wide but the flow of the game was constantly interrupted by Sangonera’s tactics and a flurry of bookings by a referee who had totally lost control of the game and on a number of occasions had to be helped out by his assistants.
Team: Ruben, Alfonso, Alcaraz, Juan Andreo, Randey, Chema (Jose Da), Moha, Tico, Pescao, Jose Ruben, Juanillo (Cecilio)
Man of the Match: Alfonso
So all these years later and it's was still the same old dirty Sangoners that I remember, let's hope that we can wipe the smiles of their faces this time.
LAST WEEKEND
Last weekend Sangomera were away against lowly El Esparragal and that game ended in a 0-2 win for the away team
STATS
I hate to say it but Sangonera are doing very well in their reformation year and currently sit in one of the promotion places. Here are there current statistics compered to ours:
2nd Sangonera C.F. P 20 W 13 D 2 L 5 GF 50 GA 24 Points 38
12th Mazarron F.C. P 20 W 9 D 2 L 9 GF 43 GA 36 Points 29
DIRECTIONS TO THE GROUND AND OTHER INFORMATION
It could not be more simple, quick and easy to get to the "Campo de futbol, El Mayayo" in Sangonera La Verde. It is only 40 minutes and 52 KM away from Camposol.
For those of you independently travelling and have sat nav's the co-ordinates are 37° 55' 24" N, 01° 11' 37" W
For others here are the very simple directions.
From either the Mazarron country club or Camposol take the dual carriageway past Camposol and stay on this road driving past Polaris world on your right.
Continue until you get to the huge traffic roundabout at it's end. Take the SECOND turn off the island, which is the RM603, towards EL PALMAR, then go straight over the small traffic island a few meters further on and continue along on the RM603. You will be on the RM603 all the way.
The RM603 will eventually bring you to Sangonera La Verde. As you reach the town go straight over the first roundabout which is signed SANGONERA LA VERDE and CENTRO URBANO. Drive straight through the town (or stop for lunch) and out the other side, it's one road through the town with numerous traffic lights.
On leaving the town, still on the RM603, you will again come to another traffic round about. Again it's straight on and this is one is signed RM603 LA PALMAR.
Now be careful, about 100 meters on your RIGHT after this island there is a small ORANGE sign reading "CAMPO DE FUTBOL, EL MAYAYO"
TAKE THIS RIGHT TURN, the road leads you through an industrial estate and the ground is easily found on the left some 1km along this road.
THE GROUND
The ground has change little since I was last there but they have erected covered seating on one side of the pitch which is natural grass. There is ample parking directly outside of the ground and a canteen as you enter the ground and there is modern toilet facilities next to it.
TEAM COLOURS
Our last away game was against the "Dennis the menace" gang of Cabezo de la Torres. This time we are against the "wasps" of Sangonera de la Verde as they now play in yellow and black striped shirts. So Mazarron will be in RED for this game.
I hope you can make it for this next trip into the country side of Murcia and I hope to see you there.
