FC Cartagena had a good day today!
After the 'B' team trounced Mazarrón this morning in the Tercera, the 'A' team beat Marbella 2-0 this evening in Segunda B to secure a position in the play-offs for promotion to the Segunda Division.
With 2 games to play, they are 8 points clear of 5th placed UCAM-Murcia who, themselves still have a chance of making the playoffs as well.
The other Murcian teams in Segunda B are Real Murcia in 11th place who are virtually safe for another year and FC Jumilla whose win today lifted them out of the relegation places (just)!

Penultimate week results:
CF Talavera de la Reina 2-2 FC Cartagena Marbella FC 2-0 UCAM Murcia CF San Fernando CDI 0-1 FC Jumilla Real Murcia CF 2-0 UD Melilla
So UCAM-Murcia losing means they cannot make the playoffs and Jumilla's win keeps their heads above the water for another week.
All will be revealed next week.

Final week's scores:
Sevilla Atlético 2-0 Real Murcia CF FC Cartagena 1-0 RB Linense UCAM Murcia CF 2-1 CF Talavera de la Reina FC Jumilla 1-2 Marbella FC
Which means Cartagena are in the playoffs for promotion to the Segunda.
Despite their win, UCAM-Murcia miss out due to their worse head-to-head with Badajoz.
And Jumilla's loss leaves them with a one-off tie (over two legs) to confirm their Segunda 'B' life for next season. If they lose that, they will drop into our Tercera.

Play-off draws:
FC Cartagena have been drawn against the Real Madrid second team (Castilla) and Jumilla will face up to Real Union (not to be confused with LA Union!).
Games to be played 26 May and 2 June.
Whilst the Jumilla tie is a one-off over two legs to avoid relegation, Cartagena will have to survive a second and third tie to gain promotion if they win this one.

Not a good start for FC Cartagena:
Real Madrid-Castilla 3-1 FC Cartagena
Marginally better for Jumilla:
FC Jumilla 2-2 Real Unión Club

But not good enough for Jumilla.
Second leg:
Real Unión Club 2-0 FC Jumilla (Agg: 4-2)
So Jumilla are relegated into our Tercera meaning there will be 21 teams next season.
Better news from Cartagena...
FC Cartagena 2-0 Real Madrid-Castilla (Agg: 3-3)
Cartagena progress to the next stage on away goals.

And, after taking the lead, FC Cartagena go down 1-2 in the first leg and have it all to do next week.
FC Cartagena 1-2 SD Ponferradina
But it was not to be.
SD Ponferradina 1-0 FC Cartagena
Cartagena lose 1-3 on aggregate.
