SECOND HOME GAME ON THE BOUNCE
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - Game 36
Kickoff 5pm (17.00) Sunday 14/04/2019
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON ‘Pedro Mendez Mendez’
MAZARRON F.C. v C.D. ALGAR
Back to The Pedro Mendez Mendez stadium for the second home game on the bounce and surely its got to be three points, hasn’t it?
Mazarrón FC will be facing CD Algar next weekend with our visitors fighting for their Tercera life and it doesn’t look good for them, the trap door is creaking open and they took one hell of a thumping last Sunday.
LAST WEEKEND
On Sunday Mazarrón FC were at home to Ciudad de Murcia and with a final score of 3-0 in one of the best performances this season against a side who tried to prevent Mazarrón from playing by the use of some of the most blatant dirty tactics I’ve ever seen. Fortunately the ref saw through them and the lads ran out worthy winners.
Meanwhile CD Algar were at home facing the leagues run away leaders in the shape of Yeclano Deportivo and there was only going to be one result there. The game finished as a 0-4 home drumming, and they were reduced to 10 men, what else was expected?
LAST TIME WE MET
CD ALGAR 0 - MAZARRON FC 0 (25.11.2018)
Mazarron had to settle for a point in a game against lowly CD Algar which was played in terrible conditions with a gusty wind making good football almost impossible on a bumpy artificial surface.
Algar made the first opening when Alberto had to be alert to head a dangerous right wing cross for a corner. On 11 minutes an excellent ball from goalkeeper Pena was well controlled by Salva Ballesta and his cross was just too high for the onrushing Basi and new signing Habib.
After 23 minutes Basi had the first shot on target for either side with a fierce drive from outside the penalty area which was well saved by the Algar keeper. Conditions were really difficult and Mazarron, with the wind behind them, struggled to adapt and were playing too many long balls which sailed aimlessly out of play. Algar didn't help the flow of the game with theatrical dives every time they came near a Mazarron player.
As half time approached play continued to deteriorate and Mazarron suffered a blow when Boudia was injured and was replaced by Chino after 38 minutes. Alberto had to make a last ditch tackle to break up a dangerous looking Algar attack just before the half time whistle blew.
The second half couldn't be any worse and fortunately Mazarron were able to play some decent football against the wind which had fortunately died down somewhat. Algar had the first opportunity of the half when a left wing cross sailed just wide. On the hour a corner from Salva Ballesta was headed back by Adrian Campoy into the path of Habib but the striker's shot was blocked. Then Chino made a good run down the left and his cross found Habib whose shot on the turn was deflected for a corner.
It was all Mazarron now and Zurdo's cross from the left just eluded Basi at the far post. Excellent play by substitute Diego and Basi saw Salva Ballesta's shot palmed away by the Algar keeper and almost immediately another Salva shot was deflected for a corner. Zurdo was again in the thick of the action with another cross that was punched clear and Basi shot just wide after a goalmouth scramble following a corner.
Try as they did, Mazarron just could not find the finishing touch for the goal which would have given them a win which their second half performance just about deserved.
CD ALGAR
CD Algar were promoted, alongside Mazarrón FC, last season finishing in 3rd place in the Preferente Autonomica last season. Dramatically beaten by Mazarrón FC at the death in the second leg of the playoff final Algar was given a place in the Tercera by default but have failed to capitalise on their good fortune.
This season to say that they have struggled is an understatement, losing most games and conceding a bucketful of goal, they have got to do something soon to turn their season around or it will end with a quick return to whence they came, the Preferente Autonomica. They currently sit in the relegation places.
CURRENT STATS
9th MAZARRÓN FC P 35 W 13 D 11 L 11 GF 43 GA 41 Points 50
20th CD ALGAR P 35 W 8 D 7 L 20 GF 27 GA 56 Points 31
SUSPENSIONS AND SANCTIONS
As always details of any suspensions or sanctions will be posted on the forum when they are released from the Federation which will be on Thursday evening. But we do know that CD Algar will be down by at least one player who was sent off against Yeclano.
