NEXT HOME GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - Game 31
Scheduled for Sunday 17/03/2019
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON (Pedro Mendez Mendez)
MAZARRON F.C. v LORCA FUTBOL CLUB,
After three weeks on the road Mazarrón FC are at last back at home for our next encounter and it won’t be easy as we are playing a Lorca team flying high in the playoff places and who spanked Ciudad De Murcia 6-0 last time out.
LAST WEEKEND
Mazarrón FC made it the third away game on the bounce as they travelled to lowly La Union for an early kickoff. And yet again we struggled against a basement team who are looking relegation straight in the face. La Union took the lead at the end of the first half but Basi brought the scores level until the 86th minute when Mazarrón fell to a sucker punch going down 2-1. So of the three away game one win two losses and the losses were against relegation threatened teams. As we are playing a side in the playoff places next weekend who stuffed Ciudad De Murcia 6-0 on Sunday I bet we take all three points!
Mazarrón FC stay in 10th place in the league, safe for now but we need to pick up points between now and the end of the season which is only twelve games away.
Meanwhile Lorca were at home to Ciudad de Murcia where there was only going to be one result and that was a Lorca win. It finished up as a 6-0 demolition job which consolidates their 4th place in the league and in the final playoff place.
OUR OPPONENTS
Lorca FC joined us in the Tercera Division after their relegation from division 2B last season. It is a team with a checked history both on and off the field but with big home support and playing in an excellent stadium they should be looking to bounce straight back to division 2B at the first time of asking and are making a sterling job of it so far this season.
Lorca FC early campaign came to a bit halt when Mazarrón FC came a calling in October and on that day our boys put one over our illustrious neighbours, and here’s what happened.
Lorca FC 0 - Mazarron FC 1 (27.10.2018)
Mazarron kicked off at Lorca on a pitch that puts others in the league to shame – it is immaculate.
After 5 mins a corner taken by Xavi ended with a foul on the Lorca goallie. Apart from this incident, Lorca were dominating possession and it appeared to me that Mazarron had been set up in a defensive mode. Their first real chance on goal came after 16 mins when Salvi had a shot which needed saving by the Lorca keeper. Then another break saw Basi offside when well placed. After 20 mins Campoy was lucky to only receive a yellow card when he brought down a Lorca player running at him. The resulting free kick was put well over the bar.
Despite Lorca's dominance their first real chance on the Mazarron goal came after 27 mins, but the shot was tame and easily saved by Pena. Andreo then made a last ditch clearance for a corner which came to nothing and shortly afterwards Pena raced out to a Lorca through ball and hammered it into touch off a Lorca players toes. The half ended with Lorca again on the attack as they had been for most of the half.
A short time after the second half started saw Boudia replace Andreo (who had received a knock in the first half), for his first game of the season after his long suspension. Mazarron were having their best period of possession at this time and first Jose Da then Basi failed to test Lorca keeper when well placed. Then again after 10 mins a smart move down the left saw Basi beat his marker and a precise centre found Salvi unmarked and he had time to control the ball and from 15 yards give the Lorca keeper no chance. 1 – 0 to Mazarron.
Lorca regained the upper hand and continued to have the majority of the play. After 19 mins there was a scramble in the Mazarron 6yds box involving about 3 players from each side, after Pena failed to gather a centre. The ball pinged about but Pena eventually threw himself into the centre of the crowd to reclaim the ball. A let off for Mazarron. Shortly after this at the other end Basi had a free header, but put it over the bar – it was a good chance.
After 32 mins Pena saved superbly from point blank range, but he needn´t have bothered as Lorca were offside. Chino replaced Heredia and Jose Da was replaced by Alberto shortly afterwards. Lorca continued to come forward but as throughout the game found the Mazarron defence difficult to penetrate. As the game went into stoppage time another good move by Lorca was wasted when they were caught offside. Then another chance for Lorca was cleared for a corner. A shot from the corner was sent way over the bar by a Lorca forward just about the last action of the game.
All in all, having been set up to defend, the team carried out their duties very well and Lorca had few chances on goal. I consider that Lorca had 70% of possession, but did not do a lot with it.
CURRENT STATS
4th LORCA FC P 30 W 14 D 11 L 5 GF 48 GA 19 Points 53
