NEXT AWAY GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - game 29
Scheduled for Sunday 03/03/2019
To be played at the CAMPO MUNICIPAL. "LA ARBOLEJA"
C.D. CIEZA v MAZARRON F.C.
So onto the second of three consecutive away games and this could be a corker following what happened the last time we played earlier in this season, but more of that later. Let’s start by reliving the fantastic result from last Sunday’s game at Mar Menor.
The first half was a quiet affair even though at long, long last the manager had listened to the supporters and installed Basi in the Center of the attacking formation a move that would bear dividends. The second period of the game Mazarrón took control and it was that man Basi who picked up a pass via a deflection off referee and slammed it under the Mar Menor keeper. It have, it should have been 0-2 shortly afterwards but the crossbar came the home teams rescue. Three away points against one of the leagues top sides is a great result and here’s hoping that we don’t falter against our next opponents who sit firmly anchored in the relegation zone, third from bottom whilst Mazarrón consolidated their 10th place and just sits 5 points from the playoff positions with 14 games to go so anything could happen.
Talking of Cieza this is what happened to them last Sunday. The Team were at home to Ciudad de Murcia desperate for points. Cieza are used to be at the top end of this division and often flirting with promotion to division 2B but not this season. The game was another defeat for Cieza with a scoreline of 0-1. They went behind to a fifth minute goal and could never find a way back.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE WE MET AND IT WAS CONTROVERSIAL
MAZARRON FC 1 - CD CIEZA 1 (14.10.2018) (ABANDONED AFTER 76 MINUTES)
(As a result of Cieza failing to complete the game, the match was subsequently awarded to Mazarrón by a score of 3-0.)
The first surprise of the evening was the sight of the league's joint leading goalscorer Dani Barrelis on the substitutes bench for Mazarron with Chino given his first start of the season and Basi playing the role of lone striker down the middle.
Mazarron made a good start to the game and had the better of the first 15 minutes and should have scored on 16 minutes but the shot following a corner was well wide. Cieza then came more into the game and had three decent chances to take the lead, two from headers and one from a shot from outside the penalty area. The visitors took the lead a minute before half time when Jesus Moreno latched on to as through ball and lobbed the ball over the advancing Antonio Pena and into the empty net.
Mazarron introduced Dani Barrelis after the interval and started the second half on the front foot. Unfortunately, as has happened too often in recent weeks, they wasted two free kicks in dangerous positions, the first from Salva Ballesta and the second from Xavi. Then on 53 minutes a corner from Salva was headed just wide by captain Adrian Campoy.
Mazarron were now in control of the game and a free kick from substitute Jose Da went close. Cieza were adopting the usual tactic of falling to the ground dramatically after every tackle but in the 72nd minute Mazarron appealed in vain for a penalty when Dani Barrellis appeared to be fouled in the area. In the scramble that followed, Diego's header was saved by the visiting keeper.
A rare break by Cieza saw a left wing cross go well wide of the intended target and then Mazarron scored the equaliser a minute later. A long clearance by Antonio Pena eventually saw the ball land at the feet of Salva Ballesta and his left foot shot found the corner of the net.
Unfortunately, that was the last action of the game as an incident around the Cieza substitutes bench saw the visitors taking the dramatic action of leaving the field and refusing to return leaving the match officials no alternative but to abandon the game.
CD CIEZA
Our opponents play in the Campo Municipal. "LA ARBOLEJA" situation on the the outskirts of the town of Cieza a town renowned for its sporting teams. For independent travellers the route to the ground is very simple. Leave Camposol and travel towards Totana and join the A7 motorway. Travel to Murcia City and join the A30 go north at the IKEA junction. Keep on the A30 until you reach junction 105 and take the N301 towards Cieza. After travelling about 1KM the sports complex, which is well sign posted, can be seen on your left hand side. The distance from Mazarrón is 89KM but due to the excellent motorway system the journey will take about an hour.
Cieza play in red shirts so our boys will be playing in their alternative strip of white.
This large ground is starting to show age. Concrete steps act as seating, no cover is available, the toilets are adequate and there is a canteen but I would provide your own refreshments. The playing surface is natural grass but has seen better days.
Cieza finished in 15th place last season and here are the current stats for both sides.
CURRENT STATS
10th Mazarrón FC P 28 W 12 D 8 L 8 GF 35 GA 31 Points 44
20th CD Cieza P 28 W 8 D 3 L 17 GF 25 GA 46 Points 24
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details of any suspensions or sanctions will be released by the Federation on Thursday evening and will be posted on the Mazarrón FC forum when they are available. Mazarrón had another five players booked last Sunday so we will be watching with interest late on this week. On the positive side Andreo should be back following his one game ban.
