TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - game 28
Sunday 24/02/2019 kickoff 4.45pm (16:45)
To be played at ESTADIO PITIN SAN JAVIER
MAR MENOR C.F. v MAZARRON F.C.
So we are on our travels again next Sunday and it’s the first of three away games on the bounce. Our opponents are Mar Menor CF who are in the playoff places so it won’t be a stroll in the park. But we can take faith that we normally play well against teams at the top end of the league so we can travel in hope.
LAST WEEKEND
Mazarrón FC didn’t really get started until the second half when Basi was introduced off the bench and from just lumping it up front, passes seemed to go to foot and Churra were pushed onto the back foot. It finished 0-0 a fair result in the end and definitely a point gained. The yellow cards that we picked up though will tell next Sunday as as suspensions are on the horizon.
Meanwhile Mar Menor were at Ciudad De Murcia and they struggled against the 11 players opposing them, Ciudad then went down to 10 men but Mar Menor still couldn’t break them down and it wasn’t until their opponents were reduced to 9 players that Mar Menor eventually took control of the game going on to win 0-2 against their lowly and weakened opposition.
MAR MENOR CF
Next Sunday’s opponents have spent a number of years in the Tercera Division usually finishing up in the playoff places and last season finished runners up in this Tercera league but missed out on promotion through the playoffs so shouldn’t be taken lightly.
They play their home games at the Pitin stadium which is in San Javier right next to the Iceland supermarket on the N332. Although not an ultra modern stadium it has all the necessary features, canteen, toilets and decent seating unlike our last trip to that tip of a ground in Corvera.
The pitch is of an artificial playing surface and the last time that I was there played pretty true with an even bounce.
Mar Menor CF home strip is blue so expect our boys to be in red for this game.
Getting to the ground is a doddle if you’ve ever been to San Javier airport all you need to do is to get to the AP7 between Cartagena and Alicante and come off at junction 780 and travel the short distance into the Center of San Javier. Turn left as you reach the N332 and the ground is some 500 meters on your right just after Iceland. There is loads of on street parking and numerous restaurants and bar not far away, plus the Mar Menor is just down the road if you fancy a paddle.
Fo the independent travellers the coordinates for the ground are 37° 48' 34" N, 00° 49' 52" W which is situated 79km but due to the excellent motorways between Camposol and the ground it should only take about 50 minutes.
Details of the Los Amigos away supporters coach will be posted here and on their Facebook site when they are available.
CURRENT STATS
4th MAR MENOR CF P 27 W 13 D 8 L 6 GF 36 GA 32 Points 47 10th MAZARRÓN FC P 27 W 11 D 8 L 8 GF 34 GA 31 Points 41
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Mazarrón FC could well be without up to three important players for this game all three are on the verge of suspension due to accumulation of yellow cards. They are Andreo, Captain Adrian Campoy and Antonio Andreo Gomez. Mar Menor have one player teetering on the edge of suspension. Details will be posted on Thursday evening when they become available after release by the Federation.

SORRY BUT I MISSED THIS OUT ON MY PREVIOUS MATCH BUILD UP
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET
MAZARRON FC 1 - MAR MENOR CF 1 (7.10.2018)
Mazarron kept their unbeaten home record with another hard working performance against a strong Mar Menor side. The visitors were runners-up in this division last year and have not finished below fifth in the last eight seasons.
Mar Menor started on the front foot forcing two early corners and looking quick and dangerous in attack. Antonio Pena had to be alert to keep out a cross shot from the right and at the other end Basi made a strong run forward but his shot was blocked for a corner.
On 13 minutes Antonio Pena came to Mazarron's rescue, not for the first time this season, when Mar Menor broke clear and he dived at the striker's feet to clutch the ball safely. However, the visitors took the lead after 18 minutes when Nacho was penalised for handball in the area. Pena made a superb save from the spot kick but was powerless to prevent the follow up shot entering the net.
Mazarron were behind for only 12 minutes when an excellent move down the right saw Basi's cross headed into the corner of the Mar Menor net for his sixth goal of the season. Two minutes later Pena raced out of his goal but his clearance only reached a Mar Menor forward. Fortunately, his shot was well wide of the far post with the goal gaping.
On 38 minutes Pena was again called into action after a ball down the left eluded Gato and the home keeper was on hand to make another diving save. Mazarron almost took the lead on the stroke of half time when Salva Ballesta's corner was headed just over the bar by Adrian Campoy.
Mar Menor began the second half on the attack and looked dangerous on a couple of breaks down their right wing. Dani Barrelis went close for Mazarron but saw his shot blocked at the last minute. Then a superb free kick from Xavi was headed down into the path of Dani Barrelis but his fierce shot brought an excellent save from the Mar Menor keeper.
The game entered a scrappy period with neither side able to make any impression but Adrian Campoy had to be alert to divert a shot for a corner. Mazarron's last chance was a free kick on the edge of the penalty area when Dani Barrelis was brought down but Jose Da's free kick was headed clear at the near post.
The draw kept Mazarron in eighth position in the Tercera Division a highly creditable start to the season.

MAR MENOR CF 0 MAZARRON FC 1
A much improved second half performance saw Mazarron gain an excellent win over highly placed Mar Menor.
The home team started on the front foot and a right wing free kick was headed wide after just six minutes. On 13 minutes another free kick saw a shot at the far post blocked by Randry who diverted the ball for a corner. With the referee seeming to punish every Mazarron tackle another Mar Menor free kick from the right sailed wide of the target.
Mazarron's first attack saw a free kick by Xavi headed tamely wide by Randry and Mazarron were again struggling to string two passes together and relying on long clearances out of defence. It was 43 minutes before Mazarron forced their first corner which came to nothing as the half came to an end after another disappointing performance by the visitors.
Whatever Manager Juanjo said to the players at half time worked because Mazarron were a different team after the interval. The midfield and defence closed the Mar Menor players down at every opportunity and Jose Da and Randry pushed further forward to support the hard working Basi up front.
On 55 minutes clever work by Jose Da in the penalty area saw Basi trying to latch on to his through ball but the Mar Menor keeper raced out of his goal to smother the shot. Then Jose Da fired a free kick over the bar before Mazarron took the lead on 61 minutes. Jose Da and Randry combined well to find Basi 12 yards from goal and he placed his shot under the diving keeper to the delight of the large band of travelling supporters.
It could have been 2-0 minutes later when a corner was half cleared to Xavi who struck a thunderous shot against the underside of the bar only to see the ball bounce down to safety.
The home team were reduced to ten men after 77 minutes when Antonio was sent off and Mazarron easily contained the attacks of the home team in the closing stages with Antonio Pena hardly troubled in the Mazarron goal.
The whole team worked hard in the second half and there were some excellent performances. Nacho and Xavi won everything in midfield and captain Adrian Campoy was again a tower of strength in the centre of defence. Jose Da and Randry worked well in support of Basi who deservedly won the Man of the Match award.
Both teams received five yellow cards in addition to the sending off. Mazarron stay in tenth place in the league but closed the gap on a number of teams above them and are only five points away from a play-off position.
Team: Antonio Pena; Josema; Gato; Adrian Campoy; Alberto; Nacho; Jose Da; Xavi; Basi (Jaime); Heredia (Diego); Randry (Chino).
Man of the Match: Basi
