NEXT HOME GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - game 27
Scheduled for Sunday 17/02/2019
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON ‘Pedro Mendez Mendez’
MAZARRON F.C. v E.D.M.F. CHURRA GESA
Next up for Mazarrón FC is a home tie against E.D.M.F. Churra Gesa who I will now simply call Churra for the remainder of this posting.
From facing Estudiantes from the lower regions of the league, and again we struggled against a lowly opposition, to next week taking on for the second time this season a side that are in the playoff positions. We seem to up our game against these high flyers I sincerely hope that it the same next Sunday, it needs to be following the shift the lads put in against Estudiantes, a poor performance I’m afraid, but hey ho it was another three points which matters.
LAST WEEKEND
Mazarrón traveled to Corvera to play Estudiantes and with the hope of a good day against a team looking straight down the barrel of relegation the away supporters assembled for a feast of football but unfortunately it was more like a famine. The first half could be summed up as long ball, negative tactics, misplaced passing and a general lack of ‘zip’ in the team. Estudiantes weren’t much better and relied upon their excellent number 6 acting as a sweeper to snuff out any Mazarrón threat. The most boring first half to a game for me for a long time. The second half improved, well it couldn’t get much worse, but it took until the 86th minute for Mazarróns first attack on goal created by Andreo with a brilliant run down the right wing and a cross to Randry to slot home. Mazarron nearly threw it away at the deaths with the final ball of the game hitting the Mazarron post but fortunately the ball span away.
Meanwhile Churra were at home to Ciudad de Murcia where a certain Dani Morales Linares, remember him folks?, scored twice for a 2-0. Dani picked up another yellow card and could possibly be missing next weekend, we wait and see. This result cemented Churras place in the playoff positions so hopefully we will upset there plans next Sunday.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE PLAYED?
EDMF CHURRA GESA 2 - MAZARRON FC 2 (30.9.2018)
Mazarron travelled to third placed Churra and came away with an excellent draw in a very hard fought game.
The home team took the lead in the very first minute when a long ball saw former Mazarron striker Dani Morales racing past Alberto and with goalkeeper Antonio Pena racing out to the edge of the penalty area he calmly lobbed the ball over his head and into the empty net.
Churra were looking quick and dangerous up front but Mazarron also looked sharper than the previous week with Basi finally playing alongside Dani Barrelis up front. Jose Da hit a long range free kick straight at the keeper and then Andreo's shot from 25 yards was well saved as Mazarron started to get into their stride.Zurdo was harshly penalised for a foul but the Churra free kick was well wide. Then Salva Ballesta and Andreo combined well on the right but Andreo's cross shot was just wide of the target. Churra had a great opportunity to increase their lead on 38 minutes when a free kick from the right was fired wildly over the bar from just six yards.
They were made to pay for their mistake when Mazarron equalised a minute later. A throw in from Gato caused havoc in the Churra defence and the ball landed at the feet of Basi who fired the ball firmly home from 10 yards. On the stroke of half time a free kick from the right was headed against the bar by Dani Morales and the ball bounced down into the safe arms of Antonio Pena.
Churra began the second half with a left wing corner which was headed wide. Then new signing Javi saw the Churra keeper off his line but his clever effort from 40 yards did not have enough height. However Mazarron took the lead after 56 minutes when Salva Ballesta was pulled back just inside the area and leading scorer Dani Barrelis calmly slotted the resulting penalty into the corner of the net.
Churra were back on level terms seven minutes later when a free kick on the edge of the penalty area was touched back into the path of Nelson Gabriel who shot over the defensive wall past the despairing dive of Antonio Pena.
Mazarron's best move of the game came after 67 minutes when Dani Barrelis cleverly held off three defenders before finding Jose Da whose fierce shot was well saved by the Churra keeper. Churra's giant substitute Alejandro headed a corner over the bar and at the other end Andreo was leaning back as he fired over the bar from 8 yards after a right wing free kick.
It was virtually Andreo's last action of the game as he was harshly shown a straight red card for a tackle right in front of the visiting Mazarron supporters who showed their displeasure at the decision. Then a touchline spat saw a member of the coaching staff from each team sent to the changing rooms.
Mazarron could have won it in the 89th minute when substitute Heredia threaded the ball through to Basi just inside the Churra half. He raced clear but his final shot was smothered by the home keeper.
It was a much better all round performance by Mazarron who had, at the time, played four of the top six teams in their six games so far and with three wins, a draw and just two defeats it has been a very satisfactory start to the season.
CURRENT STATS
2nd EDMF CHURRA GESA P 26 W 15 D 3 L 8 GF 44 GA 32 Points 48
9th MAZARRÓN FC P 26 W 11 D 7 L 8 GF 34 GA 31 Points 40
So you can see from the stats above the the main differences between the sides is that Churra have converted more game to wins than draws which Mazarrón seems to specialise in, goals score also makes a difference. But the stats are not all that different, just think of all of those points that we have thrown away by drawing instead of winning games.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
As usual these will be released by the Federation on Thursday evening and will be posted on the Mazarrón forum as soon as we get to know who’s on the ‘naughty step’ for next Sunday’s game. Andreo has just hit 15 yes 15 yellow cards for the season and Alberto is also close to the suspension mark, let’s hope that we have also seen the back of Churras and ex Mazarrón stalwart Dani Morales for the rest of the season.
