NEXT AWAY GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - GAME 26
SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY 10/02/2019
To be played at the JOSÉ MANUEL AROCA Stadium, Corvera
(37° 49' 50" N, 01° 09' 12" W)
NV ESTUDIANTES DE MURCIA C.F. v MAZARRON F.C.
Please note that NV Estudiantes De Murcia have move the location of their home games from Murcia to Corvera.
What can I say about last weekends game against Yeclano, they gave us a footballing lesson, they attack in swarms, they defended in numbers and adapted to the weather conditions far better than Mazarrón did. In high winds they played the ball to foot on the ground always looking for the easy but killer pass. Meanwhile Mazarrón reverted to their long ball ‘up and under’ game which the opposition easily contained. A 1-3 final scoreline was a fair result, it could have been worse, but it was against the runaway leaders of the league who were excellent despite missing their goal scoring machine through suspension. One of the bright lights was the debut of Randry on the wing, he looks a fine addition to the team.
Our next opponents, NV ESTUDIANTES DE MURCIA C.F., who I will now call Estudiantes, we’re away at Ciudad de Murcia where they snatched a 89th minute equaliser to gain a valuable point in their struggle to avoid relegation.
ESTUDIANTES
You may wonder who NV Estudiantes actually are - I did! Remember back in 2014 we played a team called Espinado Atletico in the Primera Division? They played in the Espinado suburb of Murcia - near the Terra Natura zoo. Sometime later, they became Nueva Vanguardia and played in Acantarilla. And last year they became NV (see where that came from?) Estudiantes and played at the University back near where they started in Espinado.
I thought that's where they would be playing this season, but it turns out they have moved to a stadium which has desperate memories for Mazarron FC supporters, the dog of a ground in Corvera.
Way back in 2013, we did play a team called Corvera CF in the Primera Division and the stadium could only be described as a tip but fortunately since those days the ground has been refurbished, an artificial surface laid, seating on one side and the whole amenity block has been sorted out and smartened up. The pitch sits in a natural bowl and there are park benches placed at the top of the natural amphitheater to view the ground from.
Estudiantes played in the Trecera last season coming a creditable 9th but this year is a different story as they sit in 21st and penultimate place in the league, they have scored the joint lowest number of goals so far this season and but surprisingly have conceded the identical number of goals as Mazarrón have. With the much larger number of teams going to be relegated at the end of the season Estudiantes are in real danger of going down. This has got to be an opportunity for Mazarrón to get back on track against one of the weakest teams in the league.
Estudiantes play in all white so Mazarrón should be in the regular red strip.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET
MAZARRON FC 2 - NV ESTUDIANTES DE MURCIA CF 0 (23.9.2018)
Mazarron retained their 100% home record against an Estudiantes side currently at the foot of the league but it was not one of their best performances.
They started brightly with Salva Ballesta and Zurdo sending in dangerous crosses which caused problems for the visitors defence and took the lead on 14 minutes. A free kick from Jose Da on the right was only half cleared and when the ball was played back into the area Adrian Campoy's header was fumbled by the keeper but the Mazarron skipper was first to react and fired home from close range.
Despite their lowly position Estudiantes were playing some neat football but it was Mazarron who increased the lead after 25 minutes. Jose Da cleverly floated the ball towards the corner of the net where leading scorer Dani Barrelis was on hand to apply the finishing touch with his fourth goal of the season.
As Mazarron for some reason took their foot of the pedal, the visitors dominated the remainder of the first half. After 29 minutes a break down the left forced a good save from Antonio Pena at the near post. On 33 minutes a long range effort went wide but Pena distinguished himself shortly afterwards with another acrobatic save, diving to his left to keep out a fierce drive following a throw in.
A minute later Adrian Campoy had to show his defensive qualities with a last ditch intervention as an Estudiantes striker was about to shoot . Little was seen of Mazarron as an attacking force and they were giving the ball away far too often in midfield.
The second half continued in the same vein with Pena and Adrian Campoy combining to thwart another Estudiantes attack and then Mazarron's outstanding goalkeeper was called into action again in the 53rd and 54th minutes to make two more good saves.
At the other end Basi showed his pace and strength with a surging run from the halfway line but slightly overran the ball at the last minute and the Estudiantes keeper was able to smother his effort. Dani Barrelis and Diego combined well on the right but the resulting cross was cut out.
Estudiantes continued to dominate possession in the last fifteen minutes without really troubling the Mazarron defence again. The game ended on a sour note for the home team when Adrian Campoy was sent off in the 89th minute for a second yellow card.
After the first 25 minutes, Mazarron were far too defensive minded, were caught in possession far too often in midfield and left lone strike Dani Barrelis too isolated up front with little support.
CURRENT STATS
10th MAZARRÓN FC P 25 W 10 D 7 L 8 GF 33 GA 31 Points 37
21st ESTUDIANTES P 25 W 4 D 9 L 12 GF 17 GA 31 Points 21
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
We will find out if any players are suspended for this game but with Mazarrón getting another six players book the teams management must be giving their calculators a good bashing.

Unfortunately the tractor Derby will trump a trip to Jumilla this Sunday. Hopefully the forum will have up to the minute updates and Mazarron can get back to winning ways.

WHAT A BORING GAME
But it’s the three points that matter. Mazarrón FC scored with their only decent attempt on goal following a lung busting run on the right wing by Andreo findings Randry on the far post to slot in.
It could have been so different as Mazarrón nearly fell to a sucker punch of a goal with the last kick of the game which saw the ball strike the Mazarrón upright but the spinning ball span out of the goal mouth instead of in.
Covera stadium is still a s*it tip even if it has a new playing surface. Poor seating, one toilet for all of the crowd and the pitch sprinkler system soaks the supporters who were to slow to move.
€5 to get in, poor value. And did you know that Estudiantes owners are Chinese? Their number 6 was a class act working as a sweeper and, besides the goal, snuffed out Mazarróns attack time after time.
Todays squad was
1 Juan Cruz (GK) 2 Josema 3 Gato 4 Adrian Campoy (man of the match) 5 Alberto 6 Andreo 7 Joseda 8 Javier Lopez Gomez 9 Borja 10 Heredia 11 Randry
Subs
13 Peña 14 Nacho 15 Basi 16 Jami

As mentioned above, NV Estudiantes is a subsidiary club of FC Jumilla.
Here is the club's Wiki entry:
"Founded in 2011, as a replacement to dissolved Jumilla CF, the club bought the place of Moratalla CF in Tercera División in the following year and was immediately included in the fourth level for the 2012–13 campaign. On 1 June 2015, after finishing first in its group, Jumilla was promoted to Segunda División B after defeating FC Ascó in the play-offs.
In June 2016, Jumilla was taken over by Chinese famous football commentators Li Xiang and Tang Hui together with Argentinian partner Rubén Iglesias. Jumilla's game against Lorca FC in November 2016 was dubbed 'the Shanghai Derby' as both Li and Tang are from Shanghai, as was Lorca's previous owner - the former Chinese international player and manager Xu Genbao.
In August, 2018, Jumilla entered into an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers, in which they will receive players on loan, in order to grant them first team experience."
FC Jumilla currently have five Wolves players in on loan.

Thanks to Alan Lyle for supplying details for the match report:-
NV ESTUDIANTES DE MURCIA 0 MAZARRON FC 1
Having already struggled against teams towards the bottom of the league earlier in the season, Mazarron again found it difficult against Estudiantes who started the game next to the bottom of the league.
Mazarron had goalkeeper Juan Cruz making his debut and surprisingly left Basi on the substitutes bench even though they were without the services of Diego and Salva Ballesta, both suspended.
The first ten minutes were poor with both teams struggling to put two passes together and Mazarron in defensive mode but on 11 minutes good work by Andreo on the right saw Randry shooting wide from his excellent cross. Juan Cruz was called into action to punch out a free kick after 20 minutes but only to an Estudiantes player who shot over the bar. Two minutes later he made a good fingertip save to thwart another attack from the home team.
26 minutes had gone before the Estudiantes keeper was called in to action. A throw in was headed on by Andreo to Borja whose shot lacked power and was easily saved. Then on 30 minutes hesitation by Juan Cruz allowed the home team another effort on goal, fortunately wide of the post.
Mazarron at last strung a series of good passes together with good work by Andreo and Jose Da but the final ball caught Mazarron offside. After 38 minutes Andreo again headed on another throw, this time to Heredia, but the midfielder blasted the ball over the bar. Andreo then received his customary yellow card before the interval arrived with the game scoreless after a lacklustre first half performance by Mazarron.
The second half started with a booking for Alberto when he gave away a needless free kick. Mazarron were improving slightly and good link up play saw Jose Da find Randry who shot wide after 60 minutes. A minute later Mazarron gained their first corner of the game which was totally wasted.
Thereafter, the game reverted to type with neither team playing well and many niggling fouls continued to break up play. However, on 84 minutes Andreo won the ball and beat several players before setting up Randry who blasted the ball home to put Mazarron in the lead. Estudiantes pushed forward in search of an equaliser without really threatening the Mazarron goal until the fifth minute of injury time when a shot which seemed goalward bound rebounded off the post as the referee signalled full time.
It was another poor performance by Mazarron but, at least three points were picked up and they move up one place to ninth in the league table.
Team: Juan Cruz; Josema; Gato; Adrian Campoy; Alberto; Andreo; Jose Da (Nacho); Javi; Borja (Jaime); Heredia (Boudia); Randry
Man of the Match: Adrian Campoy
