TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - Game 24
Scheduled for Sunday 27/01/2019
To be played at the CAMPO MUNICIPAL. "JUAN CAYUELA"
OLIMPICO DE TOTANA v MAZARRON F.C.
So next up is a trip to local rivals Totana. I hope that, unlike in the past, that they don’t call this game a ‘club day’ and up the gate prices as they know that we bring a lot of away supporters and they do like to milking this particular cow for cash. I’ll keep an eye on this aspect of the game.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND
Mazarrón took on Minera at home on a cold Sunday night down at the stadium and I would recommend anyone to read Dave Cappers excellent report of the game either on the Los Amigos Facebook site or on the Mazarrón FC forum for a complete run down on what happened last weekend. Sufficient to say that Minera had the better of the first half with Josema conceding an early own goal defending a dangerous cross into the box but Mazarrón dominated in the second half with the Minera goal leading a charmed life and with some outstanding goalkeeping from Rafael their net minder. How he pulled of some of the saves he did was quite remarkable. His only fumble of the game lead to Diego slamming the ball into the net somehow through a crowded penalty area. Mazarrón could have easily won this game 4-1 but it ended up 1-1 mainly due to Rafael. But fortunately other results went our way and the point gained was important.
Meanwhile Totana were at struggling Ciudad De Murcia where they were beaten 3-2 with only a last minute goal for Totana making the result look respectable. Mazarrón therefore opened the gap between them and next weekends opponents.
WHAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS SEASON
MAZARRÓN FC 2 - OLÍMPICO DE TOTANA 1 (9.9.2018)
Mazarron started the game brightly and were certainly playing a lot more passing football than they did at Minera last week and little was seen of Totana as an attacking threat in the early stages. However on 27 minutes Antonio Peña had to be alert to flick a header following a free kick over the bar for a corner.
Mazarron continued to have the better of the play as half time approached and forced a couple of corners one of which saw a header fly just wide of the far post. On 35 minutes Diego ran on to a through ball but his shot was wide of the far post and the first half ended 0-0.
It took Mazarron just over a minute to break the deadlock at the start of the second period. A flowing move down the right ended with Basi's cross being turned into the net at the far post by Dani Barriles. The lead was short lived however as Esteban equalised for Totana just five minutes later, somewhat against the run of play.
On 63 minutes Mazarron thought they had regained the lead when Jose Da's pinpoint free kick was turned into the net by Adrian Campoy but the linesman's flag was raised for offside. Manager Juanjo was sent from the touch line for protesting too strongly. Four minutes later Dani Barriles broke through but his shot was blocked and Jose Da's audacious chip from 30 yards was just deflected for a corner.
Mazarron kept pushing forward and were rewarded with what turned out to be the winning goal on 75 minutes. Dani Barriles made a surging run down the left and cut inside before striking his shot into the far corner.
Totana surged forward in search of an equaliser but Mazarron were chasing everything and closing down the visiting players at every opportunity. Totana's best chance came in injury time when a right wing corner was headed wide. Almost immediately Mazarron broke away and substitute Carrasco had a great opportunity but shot wide from an excellent position.
It was an excellent performance by Mazarron and two wins from the first three games in the Tercera Division is a great start to the season.
OUR OPPONENTS
Totana finished 2nd in the Preferente Autonomica division last season and gained promotion. They have had a good first half of the season always towards the top of the table but have recently hit a bit of a bump in the road having won just once in the last five game which has seen them slip down the table.
Totanas stadium in excellent. It has a natural grass playing surface which is normally in top notch condition. There is covered seating down one side of the pitch and the stadium boasts the usual canteen and toilet facilities.
On the numerous visits that I have made to this ground I haven’t often returned with happy memories but hopefully it will be a different story next weekend.
The stadium is simple to locate as it is positioned close to the end of the dual carriageway which passes Camposol and takes you straight to Totana. The ground can be located if you turn left at the traffic roundabout as you enter Totana some 200 meters on the left. Opposite the ground there is a bar/restaurant with and upstairs balcony which overlooks the ground and gives great views of the match without paying the match day entrance fee. The grounds coordinates are 37° 45' 45" N, 01° 30' 04" W
The distance to the ground is only 20km taking just 15 minutes so it isn’t known at this time if there will be an away supporters coach. Watch the forum and Los Amigos Facebook site for further information when it becomes available.
Totana play in a red and white striped shirt, as per Sheffield United, so, as Mazarrón play in red at home and white as an alternative it is unclear If Mazarrón will be in their alternative strip for this game.
CURRENT STATS
9th MAZARRÓN FC P 23 W 10 D 6 L 7 GF 31 GA 27 Points 36
11th OLIMPICO TOTANA P 23 W 9 D 5 L 9 GF 30 GA 30 Points 32
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Mazarrón FC will definitely be without captain Adrian Campoy after two harsh yellow cards on Sunday plus Joseda and Nacho who have both reach their allocation of yellow cards. These yellow cards, and some have been gained through ridiculous behaviour, are now starting to catch up with Mazarrón and are hurting their promotion push. They need to be cut out and soon.
