NEXT AWAY GAME
TERCERA DIVISION GRUPO XIII - Game 21
Scheduled for Sunday 06/01/2019
To be played at the CAMPO MPAL. SAN MIGUEL DE PULPI
CLUB ATLETICO PULPILEÑO v MAZARRON F.C.
For their first adventure in 2019 Mazarrón FC travel to a familiar rival in the shape of CA Pulpieño or to give them their usual name Pulpi. Over the years the two sides have played out some classical encounters one comes to mind when Pulpi scored the winning goal but the officials failed notice that the ball had reached the back of the net after it had passed through the goals side netting and no matter how much this was pointed out to them they refused to change the scoreline, thank goodness that the officials nowadays are more diligent and accurate with their unbiased decision making, yeah, right.
LAST TIME OUT
Mazarrón FC ended 2018 on a somewhat sour note. Completely in charge of the game against Lorca and a goal to the good our keeper, Peña, was kicked in the head by an opponent a hideous foul which the assailant only received a yellow card. Peña was assisted from the field of play and had to travel to hospital for treatment in an ambulance. Our young substitute keeper, David, did his best but saw an avalanche of goals in the last 20 minutes with the final score being a 2-5 defeat. I have previously made my thoughts of the referee of this game, a Snr Ignacio Alcaraz Bernal, known and just hope that he never officiates a match involving Mazarrón FC ever again.
Meanwhile Pulpi were away at Ciudad de Murcia. Pulpi won this game 2-3 but were somewhat helped in their task by benefiting from an own goal and playing against 10 men for two thirds of the match.
CA PULPIEÑO
CA Pulpieño are one of the two teams in our league who don’t even play in Murcia but come from the Almeria region of Andalusia but just over the border so for logistical reasons they play in group 13 of the Tercera Division, and last season they did rather well finishing 3rd in the league but failed to win promotion to the Segunda B division.
So far this season Pulpi are not hitting the same heights currently sitting in 9th place, two points and two places above Mazarrón FC so a win for either side will be quite significant.
Pulpieño play their home games in the small town of Pulpi at a modern ground set within an urban environment so there is plenty of on street parking around the stadium. They play on an artificial surface, there is an open metal stand with plastic seating down on side of the pitch, a good canteen and excellent toilet facilities.
Pulpi’s home strip is red and black striped shirts so Mazarrón will be wearing the alternative white strip for the game.
The distance to the ground is 60 KM but should only take 40 minutes from Camposol as its almost motorway all of the way. Details of the Los Amigos away supporters coach will be posted on this forum and on their Facebook page when they become available. For the independent traveler the route is from Camposol to the AP7 toll motorway and travel West until you reach junction 890. Leave the motorway and travel the short distance to Pulpi. On reaching the town you will encounter a roundabout, turn left there and take the fourth left at the tapas bar ‘bar Vintage’ and the ground is on your right. For those with sat navs the coordinates are 37° 24' 07" N, 01° 44' 59" W
CURRENT STATS
9th CA PULPIEÑO P 20 W 8 D 7 L 5 GF 28 GA 24 Points 31 11th MAZARRÓN FC P 20 W 8 D 5 L 7 GF 24 GA 24 Points 29
So very close statistic with Pulpi just edging it at the moment.
SUSPENSIONS AND SANCTIONS
Mazarrón FC will be without Josema who was sent off last time out after he received two dubious yellow cards and our number 8 Juan Francisco HEREDIA MARIN who gets a one match ban for accumulation of yellow cards.
CA Pulpieño have no players suspended but the federation did recorded a booking against an English sounding Pulpi player, Lewis Joseph Allen, he was shown a yellow cards in the game against Ciudad de Murcia. For reference this lad plays number 10.

CLUB ATLETICO PULPILENO 0 MAZARRON FC 2
Mazarron returned to winning ways with an excellent 2-0 away victory against Club Atletico Pulpileno who were unbeaten in their previous eight games.
As they took their seats in the very impressive stadium, Mazarron supporters were delighted to see that goalkeeper Antonio Pena had recovered from the head injury he received in the home game against Lorca Deportiva.
Mazarron began on the offensive with a Salva Ballesta free kick just too far for Andreo to reach at the far post and then another free kick from Xavi saw Boudia blaze the ball wildly over the bar. However, the home team soon got into their stride and a dangerous cross from the right was just scrambled clear before Xavi had to be alert to block a shot from Jay Spires one of three English born players in the Pulpileno squad.
On 15 minutes another of their English contingent Lewis Allen hit a left foot shot from just outside the penalty area wide of the far post. At this stage the home team were in control of the game with Mazarron resorting to long ball clearances out of defence to clear their lines.
After 26 minutes Mazarron forced a corner when one such long ball found Basi racing clear on the right but he was tackled as he was about to shoot at the expense of a corner. Salva Ballesta's flag kick was met by Adrian Campoy at the far post and he sent a looping header over the Pulpi keeper and into the roof of the net to give the visitors the lead.
It could have been 2-0 three minutes later when following another Salva corner a goalmouth scramble saw two Mazarron shots blocked. On 34 minutes Pena had to be alert to keep out a header from a right wing corner before both Jose Da and Adrian Campoy were booked in the space of two minutes. Then, on the stroke of half time, Antonio Pena made the save of the match diving to his left to turn away a strike from outside the penalty area to preserve Mazarron's slender lead.
The first effort of the second period fell to Mazarron as Andreo controlled a free kick with his chest and swivelled to hit a fierce shot on the volley just wide of the post. Boudia was booked on 51 minutes and Pulpi came close to scoring after 53 minutes when a right wing cross was headed against the crossbar by their tall centre forward Oscar Garcia. Manager Juanjo wisely substituted Boudia a few minutes later to prevent him receiving a second yellow card in the expected absence of Adrian Campoy through suspension in the next game.
Diego replaced Boudia and began to cause problems for the Pulpi defence who had to resort to some rough tactics to stop him. Alberto and Nacho defended well to clear the ball after a goalmouth scramble following a Pulpi corner but Mazarron began to control the game with Andreo terrier-like in his midfield role. Habib replaced Jose Da after 66 minutes and Salva Ballesta hit a free kick well over the bar after 72 minutes.
A few minutes later Habib received the ball just inside the Pulpi half and ran on to place the ball neatly into the net but the referee's whistle had already been blown for offside. Andreo received his customary yellow card on 79 minutes after an over-enthusiastic challenge and Chino replaced the hardworking Basi with nine minutes remaining.
With two minutes left Habib showed his strength by shrugging off three defenders near the right touchline before passing the ball perfectly into the path of Salva Ballesta who ran on to hit the ball past the onrushing keeper into the corner of the net to send the Mazarron players, officials and supporters wild with delight.
It was a much better performance by Mazarron against a strong Pulpileno team and an excellent start to the New Year.
Team: Antonio Pena; Nacho; Gato; Adrian Campoy; Alberto; Boudia (Diego); Basi (Chino); Xavi; Andreo; Jose Da (Habib); Salva Ballesta.
Man of the Match; Antonio Pena.
