A great honour for our local Liga referee Snr. Sanchez Martinez.
Chosen to open the season in the Camp Nou with tonight's game FC Barcelona vs Deportivo Alaves.

And, talking of Do. Alavés...if they beat Levante tomorrow night (Sun 30th) in Valencia they will go joint top of La Liga with the two big boys!
Not bad for a club that was still playing in Segunda 'B' in 2013!
EDIT:
But they couldn't do it. Final score Levante 2-1 Alavés. Alavés took the lead in the 5th minute but lowly Levante will be very happy to have come back and taken the 3 points to move out of the relegation places. Alavés drop to 5th.

Oh well, it was fun while it lasted - just a day!
With Sevilla, Atlético and Espanyol all winning and Barca scraping a draw, Alavés now find themselves down in 6th place!

With only 3 points covering the top six places, a win can send any one of the six to the top.
And Alavés did it last night (Friday).
A 1-0 win at Celta Vigo put them 1 point clear.
But that will only last until 11 pm tonight when we know the result of the Barcelona vs Sevilla game.
A win or a draw will send Sevilla top while a Barca win will put them in the prime spot.
