FINAL GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON
PREFERENTE AUTONOMICA UNICO - game 34
Sunday 13/05/2018 kickoff 6pm (18:00)
To be played at the CAMPO MPAL. JOSE BARNES
CAP CIUDAD DE MURCIA v MAZARRON F.C.
Well final day is here and following the miscarriage of justice last weekend there are still things to play for. The higher we are in the league the lower the team we play in the first round of the playoffs, the team finishing third play the team in sixth place whilst fourth play fifth.
So the boys must go into this fixture with a determination to win even if it is at of the home of the league champions. Most games are kicking off at the same time next weekend so that no team has an advantage in the playoff and relegation battles.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
CAP Murcia played their last away game at Bullense and were denied a win with the home side equalising with a goal in the 89th minute. It is of note that only one player from CAP received a yellow card, maybe that the reason why they have done so well this season. If you are denied players through suspensions it is bound to effect the cohesion of a team to its detriment.
Meanwhile Mazarrón were at home to Totana knowing that a win and victory against CAP Murcia would see them obtaining the second automatic promotion place, but it wasn’t to be.
A combination of a very poor match official plus some hot headed reactions lead to Mazarrón playing for 70 minutes with just 9 men with the manager, Jaunalu and his assistant Juan Andreo also being sent to the stands and in ‘Sams’ case we have also lost another player so crucial to the team. We go into this game with a reduced squad just when we needed to be our strongest.
The match official at this fixture was a disgrace but there again we should be used to that by now.
The end result was a 1-3 home defeat which ensured that Totana return to the Tercera division whilst Mazarrón go into the lottery of the playoffs.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE PLAYED?
Like last weekends opponents, Totana, CAP Murcia were relegated from the Tercera division last season and like Totana they will make an immediate return to that division for the start of next season so have they anything to play for? Not really but you would expect them to put on a show for their loyal supporters and finish on a high note.
But Mazarrón cannot take heart from the result of reverse fixture played early this season, and here is what happened.
MAZARRÓN FC 1 - CAP MURCIA 3 (7.1.2018)
Mazarron Fc were made to pay for missing good chances when league leaders CAP Ciudad de Murcia came from behind to win 3-1 at the Estadio Municipal.
Mazarron took the lead after just seven minutes when new signing Mauro Fernandez found Domingo at the far post and he headed home. Mauro had an impressive debut and went close with an overhead kick before Murcia equalised on 37 minutes when slack marking allowed Jonas to head home from close range.
Dani Morales then missed a great opportunity but headed wide from three yards from Jose Da's pin-point free kick.
But the worst miss of the game came midway through the second half when Mauro Fernandez's superb cross from the right found substitute Jose Antonio unmarked two yards from goal but he completely missed his kick and the chance was lost.
Typically Murcia took the lead almost immediately on 71 minutes when Raul Torrano lost the ball and the cross from the left again found Jonas totally unmarked and he made no mistake with his header.
Murcia made it 3-1 in injury time when Hamed scored after Pablo in the Mazarron goal had made another of a string of excellent saves.
The scoreline somewhat flattered Murcia but Mazarron really should have made the most of their missed chances.
THEIR HOME GROUND
CAP Murcia play at the Jose Barnes stadium in Murcia which is 55km but only 40 or so minutes from Camposol and located in central Murcia. For independent travelers the sat nav coordinates are 37° 59' 40" N, 01° 08' 08" W
The stadium has an artificial pitch which was in good condition the last time that we played there. There is plenty of seating and has the usual canteen and toilet facilities.
CAP Murcia play in red shirts so Mazarrón will finish the season in their away strip.
CURRENT STATS
1st CAP Murcia P 33 W 21 D 7 L 5 GF 63 GA 29 Points 70
4th Mazarrón FC P 33 W 18 D 6 L 9 GF 70 GA 44 Points 60
Whilst Mazarrón are the leagues highest scorers with 70 goals CAP Murcia have the meanest defense conceding just 29 goals.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
This will be interesting on Thursday evening. Hold onto you hats for a string of Mazarrón players and team officials being suspended for this game and possible financial penalties being imposed on the club after the Totana game.
Details of the away supporters coach will be posted as soon as they are made available.
