NEXT HOME GAME (only 4 games to go)
PREFERENTE AUTONOMICA UNICO - game 31
Kickoff 6pm (18.00) Sunday 22/04/2018
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v C.D. JUVENIA
It’s getting tight at the top of our league with Mazarrón F.C. almost guaranteed a play off place there is all to play for to secure one of the automatic promotion positions but we are not the only team in the hunt for a place in the Tercera next season. And facing us next weekend is a mid table team with nothing but pride to play for but coming to Mazarrón in the knowledge that they took all three points earlier in the season when our lads visited Pozo Estrecho, that’s where Juvenia play, last December, but more of that later.
LAST WEEKEND
For Mazarrón it was a new manager, a new striker and three lovely points in the bag on a day when teams around us were dropping points left right and centre.
Mazarrón F.C. visited Balsicas and despite going down to an early goal Boudia made matters right a minute later with a fine goal. Dani made certain of the points in the second half for a well deserved win. A bonus was Mazarrón F.C. only had one player book which helps for next weekend.
Mazarrón F.C. moved into an equal 4th place (5th on goal difference or how ever they figure it out this season) gaining on fellow teams in the playoffs but still 4 points behind Totana who occupy the final automatic promotion place. When we visit Totana in a couple of weeks, well that will be a classic 6 pointer.
Meanwhile Juvenia were at home to Bullense and looked like they were about to gather three points until the 89th minute when up pops a visiting player to equalise and making the final score 1-1, they were gutted I’m sure. As a bonus they had a number of players booked so maybe we could be helped with a suspension or two.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE PLAYED (not happy reading)
CD JUVENIA 1 - MAZARRÓN FC 0 (3.12.2017)
There can be no excuses for the lacklustre effort of a game of football that was played that day. No desire, no passion and certainly not much effort resulted in a single goal defeat.
MAZARRÓN got the game underway and Juvenia took an early opportunity to break forward into the box to nearly achieve an early opening goal. The play went end to end but neither team made any impression on the game. It was twenty minutes into the game when Juvenia took an on target shot from 25 yards out and Pablo (no 1) went full stretch to force the ball over the crossbar.
Ten minutes later Juvenia were in the box again and with what I can only describe as a “defensive mess” the MAZARRÓN players floundered around trying to clear the ball. Juvenia unsurprisingly found a way through and the ball was in the net – goal – 31 minutes into the game. Juvenia kept up the pressure. As a corner was only punched away by the MAZARRÓN goalkeeper, Juvenia picked up the loose ball and struck it back towards the net. It struck the crossbar dropping like a stone, luckily not over the line, and MAZARRÓN managed to clear.
Unfortunately MAZARRÓN showed no heart. We saw a series of bad passes that failed to reach their targets and they seemed to have forgotten what a tackle was as they stood off from the ball on so many occasions. The first half ended – 1 – 0.
Juvenia started the second half and all we witnessed was more of the same. Now with the failing light but no sign of the floodlights being turned on, we struggled to see quite how bad the game was. Maybe this was a good thing! Juvenia were definitely the better team, but that is not saying much.
After escaping going two goals down when offside was called after the ball was in the net for Juvenia, MAZARRÓN finally remembered what they were there for, and finally started playing some football but it was too little too late and even as the ball rolled across the goalmouth no one was there to tap it in.
The game ended 1 - 0 and MAZARRÓN slipped to fourth in the league, now four points below the leaders.
Let’s hope for better next weekend.
