NEXT HOME GAME (only 8 games to go)
PREFERENTE AUTONOMICA UNICO - game 27
Sunday 18/03/2018 kickoff 5pm (17:00)
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v ALCANTARILLA FC
A GAME TO STOP THE ROT
It was this game during the first half of the season following three poor results that Mazarrón F.C. turned their fortunes around with a fine 0-1 win at Alcantarilla and wins in the next few games. So there is nothing stopping our boys in red doing the same again and make a final push for at least a playoff spot if not indeed an automatic place. The gap to that final automatic promotion place is only 2 points, it’s tight up there.
LAST WEEKEND
Following the two previous games where Mazarrón F.C. were beaten by a single goal our boys repeated the act at Alhama during a game played in high winds and squally showers they were defeated by yet again a single goal despite having almost half the side missing through a combination of suspensions/illness or work commitments. We hit the woodwork and failed to capitalise on a number of occasions. This result drops Mazarrón to the final playoff place which is the minimum that the management of the side demands.
Meanwhile next to bottom Alcantarilla, who are fighting for their lives, held onto a 0-0 draw away at Bullense a result which didn’t really improve their standing so expect a side who will give their all in order to maintain their place in the Preferente Autonomica.
ALCANTARILLA F.C.
Alcantarilla F.C. are playing yet another season in the Preferente Autonomica but compared with a 9th place finish last season it’s been a bit of a struggle for them this time out with games running out. And here’s what happened earlier this season.
ALCANTARILLA FC 0 - MAZARRÓN FC 1 (5.11.2017)
MAZARRÓN FC returned to winning ways with a hard fought 1-0 away win at Alcantarilla.
A strong wind made conditions difficult on the artificial surface and Basi scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot after he had been brought down in the 15th minute.
Both teams were indebted to their goalkeepers for some excellent saves and MAZARRÓN hit the woodwork on three occasions. The best effort was a superb free kick from Basi which found Raul Torrano at the far post and his header across goal was headed against the bar by Alfonso Canovas
MAZARRÓN had the better of the chances and Basi could have scored on at least two other occasions but his finishing was not up to his usual very high standards.
Juan Andreo made a welcome come back after his premature retirement as a second half substitute and helped shore up the defence just in front of Raso and Nacho who both defended well throughout the game. Pablo was voted Man of the Match for his excellent performance in goal.
CURRENT STATS
6th MAZARRÓN F.C. P 26 W 14 D 4 L 8 GF 54 GA 36 Points 46 17th ALCANTARILLA F.C. P 26 W 6 D 6 L 14 GF 31 GA 50 Points 24
In winning just 6 games from a possible 24 you can see Alcantarillas problem and only scoring 31 goals in the process doesn’t help their case while their defence is leaking goals like a sieve.
SUSPENSIONS AND SANCTIONS
For this game Mazarrón F.C. welcomes back a number of previously suspended players and hope that Jose Da and Mauro are available following illness and injury, we might well need these two game winners on Sunday. On the downside Mazarrón F.C. will be without the influential Mojas following his undeserved double yellow last weekend.
Alcantarilla will be missing their regular left back, Victor Zapata Garcia, who was sent off against Bullense.
We wait for the federations publication of their suspended list on Thursday evening and hope it makes good reading for Mazarrón F.C.

Match report by Alison Golding.....
MATCH REPORT – SUNDAY 18TH MARCH 2018 MAZARRON FC 3 – ALCANTARILLA FC 0 Arriving at the home ground for this weeks match it was good to see that it would be played on a (mainly) green pitch as the recent rain had spurred the grass into growing again but I think the expression “playing field” would have been a better one as it resembled the local recreation park more than a quality football pitch. Mazarron started the game and Alcantarilla had the first opportunity as Mazarron failed to clear a corner and the ball bobbled around the box before being shot wide. As the teams settled into the game Mazarron certainly had the upper hand and it only took 11 minutes for them to show their superior class. A long free kick reached just outside the box where Mazarron were fouled, resulting in a free kick just outside the box. Alfonso Canovas (no 8) stepped up to take the shot and with “Beckham like” accuracy struck the ball into the corner of the net – GOAL for Mazarron. Mazarron continued to have the better of the play as the ball remained in the Alcantarilla half for much of the half. Any chances Alcantarilla had were easily dealt with by the Mazarron defence who were reinforced by the return of Raso (no 4), one of the supporters favourites. With just ten minutes of the first half to play Dani Morales (no 10) broke from the pack and ran with the ball up the pitch. The keeper came forward but his miss timed tackle left Dani with the ball and an open goal, he couldn't miss – GOAL 2 for Mazarron. Unable to beat the Mazarron defence Alcantarilla tried shooting from distance but their shots were no threat for the Mazarron goalkeeper, Juan Pedro (no 1) The first half ended 2 – 0. Alcantarilla kicked off the second half, with their half time talk ringing in their ears, they upped the pace and tried a series of dummies to take control of the ball, but Mazarron were holding firm and not being fooled that easily. Salva (no 7) made an excellent run up the wing fighting off several Alcantarilla players but unfortunately failed to find a finish. Alcantarilla were definitely more organised now than they had been in the first half but any chances they had resulted in weak soft finishes, no problem for Mazarron. With the uneven playing surface and the ball bouncing around like in a game of bagatelle, it became more of a game of “head ball” than football, but this was to neither teams advantage. With pointless midfield play Mazarron were desperate for a breakthrough to secure the three points. It took till the 84th minute for Mazarron to make that break as Dani (no 10) repeated his first goal and out played the Alcantarilla keeper again to shoot into an open net for the second time. In the main the refereeing had been better than the standard we have unfortunately become accustom to but a late yellow card for Raso (no 4) for hand ball when the ball had clearly hit his chest only makes me think he had been watching the film “Alien” and thought a hand had protruded from his stomach! The game ended 3 - 0 Mazarron made two substitutions in the second half, Alcantarilla made five substitutions. Mazarron received three yellow cards. Alcantarilla received just one yellow card. Man of the match voted for by Los Amigos de Mazarron FC was Raso– number 4. Today's three points puts Mazarron up one place in the table to fifth with the same points (49) as Abaran in fourth and only one point below Algar and Totana in second and third on 50 points. There is still all to play for.
