First game of 2014
Mazarron FC v Nuestro Abarán Club de Fútbol
This home game is scheduled for Sunday 12th January 2014 (my birthday and yes I will accept presents)
Abaran played in our league last season finishing a creditable 6th.
When we played them last season we came off second best with a 2-1 defeat in Abaran (the ball in the face of Trevor Taylor game) and a 2-2 draw at home although we did come back from 0-2 down.
Abaran are having a decent first half of the season again this year and are currently in 8th place just one point and two places below Mazarron.
Last time out they beat CD Esparragal 1-0 at home.
Match details and sanction/suspensions will be published as soon as they are published.
Here are the teams current stats as at 22/12/13 which shows both teams current standings at the end of 2013 prior to the winter break. It not only indicates how close it is at the top of our league, but also shows that we have scored almost twice as many goals as Abaran. It will be an interesting game for sure.
MAZARRON FC 6th place
P 14 W 8 D 0 L 6 GF 32 GA 20 Points 24
ABARAN CF 8th Place
P 13 W 7 D2 L 4 GF 17 GA 16 Points 23
You will note Abaran have a game in hand following the suspension of their fixture against Alberca. The game was suspended with minutes to go and Abaran leading 1-0 after a clash of heads between two players requiring urgent medical treatment.
During Mazarron FC 1-5 away win in the Christmas trophy competition on the 29th December a couple of new faces, well at least for this season, were included. I have yet to speak to Jose, as he has just returned from Zaragoza, as to whether these will be permanent signings or just for that one game. I'll publish more details when I have them.

And if my memory serves me right (and it often doesn't at my age!) wasn't old friend Emilio there last year dressed in fancy dress (well I never did believe he'd joined the boys in blue)?

I bet Emilio has worked his way up the ranks with his smooth talking manner.

Look out for our two new players.
Clemente, who played in the Christmas game - has he been with us before?
And 'Julio', who I think is coming from Totana.
Both defenders?

Clemente was with us last season, very good defender, he arrived with Chicho, who also played in the Christmas tournament, and they made a good partnership.
Re Julio, doesn't ring a bell, but I will ask.
I know where this info came from Les, so at the moment I'll hold off confirmation until I've had a chance to speak to "El Jefe"

MATCH DETAILSMazarron FC v Nuestro Abarán Club de FútbolKICK OFF 4.30pm (16.30) SUNDAY 12th January Lets fill those terraces for the first game of 2014 (EDIT)
Sanctions for this game have now been released and Abaran will be missing GERARDO BAÑON CANDEL, who I reckon must be a defender as he is not recorded by the federation as having scored this season. Saying that they have two players on 3 goals each as their main strike force.
MAZARRON FC at full strength.
I will speak to Jose on Saturday at the cadete game re the players available for this game.

EARLIER POSTING Look out for our two new players.Clemente, who played in the Christmas game - has he been with us before? NOT JOINING MAZARRON FCAnd 'Julio', who I think is coming from Totana. NOT JOINING MAZARRON FCBoth defenders? The "snail without a shell" information was wrong regarding all three players. But below is news of signings direct from the club president. IN For the Abaran game Mazarron FC will have on display two new players. Both join us from Totana and are defence/midfielders. One, I forget which one, is a "Poyatos" enforcer type player which we have been missing in the middle of the field. I reckon, but don't quote me, that these recruits will allow Cecillo and Alfonso to push further up field to support Jose Ruben. 12 ISHMAEL 15 ENRIQUE OUT Alcon has left Mazarron FC and moved to Pulpi over the winter break.

Final score
Mazarron FC 0 v Nuestro Abarán Club de Fútbol 2
In the worse performance of the season, Mazarron FC threw away the chance to go 5th today. I cannot think of any redeeming factors for the display at home against a team we should have played off the park, Abaran were poor, we were worse.
Having said that we squandered 4 clear cut chances to score and two of those chance it would have been easier to score than miss. And Randrey almost broke the post with a pile driver from a well worked corner. Oh where were the displays of recent times when scoring 5 goals was the norm?
The players know they under performed and walked off the field with their tails between their legs. Their awful display was compounded by an opposition who had set their stall out to frustrate and get a point but were help by two awful mistakes by the Mazarron defence which gifted them their 2 goals.
Prior to the game a referee assessor booked in at the office and I only hope that agrees with most if not all of the supporters present that this ref was on a mission to ensure Mazarron got nothing from the game and even smiled and winked at us when he made a terrible decision giving a blatant foul by the huge Abaran defender on Jose Ruben, flagging it the wrong way, at least he enjoyed himself. And if there was an audition for the "dying swan" they should go to Abaran as there are 11 players who could fill the roll as the chief "diver" waiting to get the job.
Awful, just bloody awful.
But there is always next weekend so watch out for details.

I will say that one positive thing to come out of the game was the performance of one of the new lads Ishmael who wore the No12 shirt, he played well and i am sure that with a few more games under his belt will prove to be a good signing.
