NEW HEAD SAINT NEEDED
Southampton have sacked manager Claude Puel after less than a year in charge.
The 55-year-old Frenchman, who spent four years as manager of Nice, was appointed Saints boss in June 2016 after the departure of Ronald Koeman.
Saints finished sixth under Koeman in 2015-16 but suffered 16 Premier League defeats with Puel and were eighth last term.

'DIRTY' LEEDS SIGN A NEW BOSS
Leeds appoint new head coach
Leeds have appointed Thomas Christiansen as their new head coach, Press Association Sport understands.
Former APOEL Nicosia boss Christiansen, 44, is set to be installed as a replacement for Garry Monk, who resigned last month, within the next 24 hours.

The former Netherlands international, 47, has been offered the job and negotiations are at an advanced stage. It is understood he was the first choice of Palace chairman Steve Parish and informed the south London side they were his preferred option.

A BIT OF 'ARGY BARGY' COMES TO SOUTHAMPTON
Southampton have appointed Mauricio Pellegrino as their new manager.
The 45-year-old Argentine replaces Claude Puel, who was sacked earlier this month after one season in charge.
Pellegrino stood down as Alaves manager in late May, after losing the Spanish Cup final to Barcelona and finishing ninth in La Liga with a club that had been promoted the season before.

Well, here's a thing..........................
Spanish sports paper Marca is reporting that Rafa Benitez is unhappy that Mike Ashley isn't splashing the cash to get them established in the Premiership.
Will he walk away........?
"- Benitez could leave Newcastle. The Spanish coach is not receiving the signings he has asked for after joining the Premier League team and may decide to leave the club."

IS DOUGIE ABOUT TO BE MADE A 'FREEDMAN' OF OXFORD?
Former Nottingham Forest boss Dougie Freedman is reportedly a leading contender for the Oxford United job.
Freedman has been out of work since being sacked by the Reds in March last year, after just over a year in charge at the City Ground.
And he is understood to be in the frame to return to management at League One Oxford, who are searching for a new manager following Michael Appleton's departure for Premier League Leicester City.

A GAME OF 'SIMON SAYS?'
Sunderland have approached fellow Championship side Preston for permission to speak to manager Simon Grayson.
A Preston statement read: "Preston North End have today been contacted by Sunderland Football Club to ask permission to speak to Simon Grayson in relation to their vacant managerial position.
"Having spoken to Simon, he has asked permission to speak to the Black Cats and therefore the club had no option but to allow these conversations to take place, with a compensation package already guaranteed in his contract.
"Whilst these talks are ongoing, Steve Thompson will be in charge of first team affairs. The club will make no further comment at this stage."
David Moyes stood down as Sunderland boss following their relegation from the Premier League last season.
Simon Grayson has indicated he wants to join Sunderland, which given the size of the club, would be a step up from Preston.
However, he won't be getting the same job security at the Stadium of Light.
Grayson is the second longest serving manager in the Championship, taking over in February 2013.
To put that into context, including Kevin Ball's three-game stint in temporary charge, Sunderland have had seven managers in that time.
Paolo di Canio and Dick Advocaat didn't last 20 games

AND OXFORD UNITED FINALLY CHOOSE.....WHO?
Oxford United have appointed former Leeds United and Swansea City assistant boss Pep Clotet as their new manager.
The Spaniard, 40, worked as number two to Garry Monk at both teams and replaces Michael Appleton, who left Oxford to become Leicester assistant.
Clotet was chosen from a list of six, which included an internal candidate, and will work with the League One side's existing coaching staff.
But he's well qualified!
He has managed in Spain - at lower-league Cornella and Figueres as well as the B teams at Espanyol and Malaga - and Sweden - at Halmstads. He was among the candidates to become Brentford's new boss in 2015.

EX CANARY ABOUT TO SING AT PNE?
Preston are hopeful of having a new manager in place by the end of this week after interviewing bookmakers' favourite Alex Neil on Monday.
Simon Grayson's exit to Sunderland last month means Championship side North End are seeking a new boss for the first time in over four years.
It's understood that Neil met the Lilywhites' hierarchy on Monday but the club still want to interview other applicants before determining who they want to take the post.
The 36-year-old Scot is currently out of work having been cruelty axed by Norwich in March and his CV includes both a Championship promotion from his time with the Canaries and the Scottish equivalent when he took Hamilton to the top flight in 2014.
Will Norwich regret sacking this top, top manager?

YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST
Alex Neil believes he has landed in the "perfect place" having been named the new manager at Preston.
North End were left searching for their first boss since 2013 when Simon Grayson swapped Deepdale for Sunderland's Stadium of Light last week and have chosen 36-year-old Scot Neil.
Although he was surprisingly and so what unfairly axed by Norwich only four months ago, his resume includes promotions to the top flight on either side of the border and after conversations with two former Canaries chief executives, Neil was convinced Deepdale was the right destination.
