NEXT HOME GAME (only two games to go in the regular season)
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 33
Scheduled for Sunday 07/05/2017
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v PLUS ULTRA-MARVIMUNDO
Following last weekends dramatic late winner against CD Jumilla Mazarrón FC have put themselves in a great position to take one of the four end of season play off places. To make sure that they get over the line they need to win one of the two remaining games against Plus Ultra or away at 10th placed Cartagena FC who have nothing to play for. A point could do it and they can even squeeze in with their current points total but let's have no theatrics please and make sure next weekend against a struggling Plus Ultra team.
LAST WEEKEND
A really good weekend for the boys in red as they traveled to Jumilla and gained revenge for the water polo match/defeat earlier in the season but we didn't make it easy for ourselves going behind in the first few minutes to a penalty when a Mazarrón player appeared to handle the ball in the box and Jumilla took a 1-0 lead from the spot. Mazarrón never gave up the fight and and equaliser from Chino and that late, late winner from Raul, coming off the bench, ensured that all three points were heading south to Mazarrón.
Meanwhile our next opponents were entertaining Montecasillas and the fixture finished up as a 1-0 win for Plus Ultra and confirmed Montecasillas relegation to the Primera Autonomica. A fate that they could suffer themselves shortly.
WHAT HAPPENED EARLIER THIS SEASON?
PLUS ULTRA 0 - MAZARRON FC 2 (11.12.2016)
Juan Pedro in the Mazarrón goal was called into action as early as the ninth minute when a right wing corner was headed goal-wards and he made an excellent save diving to his right to push the ball away. At the other end Cesar' s pass to Jimmy saw the Mazarron striker round the goalkeeper only to see his shot deflected into the side netting for a corner.
On eighteen minutes a mistake by Pedro let in Alejandro but the Plus Ultra's striker's fierce drive went just wide of the post. At this point Plus Ultra were well on top with Mazarron unable to make much impression on the home defence. After 22 minutes a Plus Ultra free kick was headed downwards from point blank range but Juan Pedro again made a great save although the linesman was flagging for offside.
However, it was Mazarron who took the lead against the run of play on 30 minutes. A superb ball out of defence by Raso found Chino on the right. His cross into the centre was met by Ruben who turned inside and hit a left foot shot into the roof of the net.
It was 2-0 after 37 minutes when a dangerous left wing corner from Ruben was spectacularly fired into his own net by Julio to give Mazarron a half time lead that they barely deserved.
The second half began with a fierce volley by Raul Torrano which the Plus Ultra keeper just managed to claw over the bar for a corner. Mazarron forced two more early corners and on 53 minutes Jimmy just failed to get on the end of an excellent cross from Cesar.
Juan Pedro made another good save on 64 minutes and at the other end Jimmy's clever control saw him hitting a right foot shot just over the bar as the game opened up. Three minutes later Cesar saw a shot deflected wide after an excellent pass from Boudia.
Plus Ultra were striving to regain control of the game but Mazarron continued to have chances with substitute Raul glancing Ruben's corner just wide of the far post. However it was Juan Pedro in action again as he continued to deny Plus Ultra the goal they probably deserved with more excellent saves in the 80th minute and in stoppage time.
OUR OPPONENTS
Plus Ultra have not been having the best of seasons following their relegation from the Tercera division last year. They currently sit one point and one place above the final relegation places and are in real danger of doing a 'double relegation' unless they can find some points from somewhere. As you will see from the stats below scoring goals is not their major concern have netted 32 but it's the goals conceded that's the problem with 62 finding the back of the Plus Ultra net and may long shall it continue😜
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR
Plus Ultras number 11 Francisco Garnes Ruiz has the same number of goals as Mazarróns leading marksman, Raul, with both sitting on 8 goals but unlike Mazarrón FC where the rest of the team chip in with goals Plus Ultra struggle in supporting their main striker which could account for their current difficulties.
CURRENT STATS
4th MAZARRÓN FC P 32 W 15 D 10 L 7 GF 47 GA 29 Points 55
15th CD PLUS ULTRA P 32 W 7 D 9 L 16 GF 34 GA 62 Points 30
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Although Mazarrón had five players booked last weekend and a member of the coaching staff I hope none of them have triggered a match suspension for the accumulation of yellow cards but we will find out for sure on Thursday when the federation releases the sanctions list, watch this space.
