NEXT AWAY GAME
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 32
Kickoff 5.30pm (17.30) Sunday 30/04/2017
To be played at the POLIDEPORTIVO "LA HOYA"
JUMILLA C.D. v MAZARRON F.C.
The away 'trip of the year' has come around again and if you have never travelled to Jumilla this is not a game to miss. It's not just the excellent stadium that Jumilla play in but the really nice town that the ground is situated in, lovely bars and restaurants and famous for its red wine it's a town full of interest and well worth getting there early so you can have a walk round and sample the local food and wine in the numerous bars. But on top of this there is the journey to Jumilla where you pass through vineyards and the wonderful Murcian countryside on the new dual carriageway recently completed.
GETTING THERE
Details of the Los Amigos supporters away coach will be published on the Mazarrón FC forum and Los Amigos Facebook site when available.
For independent travellers, leave Camposol on the dual carriageway and join the A7 at Alhama then drive towards Murcia. Continue on the road as if you are going to Alicante but at the A30 junction, where you would normally get off for IKEA, take the motorway and travel North towards Albacete. After a number of miles take the new A33 motorway towards Jumilla and this road will take you all the way to you destination with the motorway reverting to normal roads some 5 or so miles from the town itself. As you enter the town you will be met by a large traffic roundabout, turn left here and the large stadium complex is on your left and the town centre on your right. The is ample on street parking available around the ground especially on a Sunday. The distance to Jumilla from Camposol is 118KM but will only take about 1 hour 15 minutes due to the excellent motorway system. For those with 'sat navs' the coordinates for the ground are 38° 28' 17" N, 01° 19' 24" W
The ground has a natural grass playing surface and is only spoiled by the fact that there is a running track around the outside of the pitch creating some distance between the spectators to the action on the pitch. The ground has an excellent covered stand so plenty of shade is available during the game. There are modern toilet facilities underneath the stand and it had an excellent canteen with food and drink available, last season the sausage in bread rolls were to die for.
Jumilla play in blue and white stripes as per Sheffield Wednesday so expect Mazarrón to be in their usual red uniform.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
But back to football. Last weekend Mazarrón FC entertained already relegated CD Lumbreras and despite the visitors 'parking their bus' in front of their goal Mazarrón came away with a 1-0 thanks to a brilliant penalty save by the home sides keeper.
Meanwhile Jumilla traveled to relegation threatened Montecasillas for an Friday night kickoff and came away with a 1-3 win which dented Montecasillas chances of survival.
WHAT HAPPENED EARLIER IN THE SEASON?
In a game played in the most atrocious conditions that I have ever experienced at football game, and I've been to watch Mansfield on February evening! But one shot settled the encounter on the water polo pitch, and I kid you not, it was that bad. The officials should have been ashamed to have allowed the game to start never mind continue in the driving rain. Here is a résumé of what happened on that rain sodden afternoon. This game will be an opportunity for Mazarrón to gain revenge for that defeat on a day when football should have been postponed.
MAZARRON FC 0 - JUMILLA CD 1 (4.12.2016)
Mazarron lost a game which in all probability should not have been played after a day of torrential rain which made the pitch at the Estadio Municipal surface virtually unplayable.
Mazarrón started well with Andreo having a shot in the first minute which was parried away. Meanwhile Jimmy overran the ball when it stuck in a puddle as he was bearing down on goal. On 9 minutes an excellent ball by Raso found Jimmy but the striker went for power instead of placement and missed to the left of the upright.
Mazarróns best chance of the first half came from a lovely ball out of defence by Juan Andreo to Chino and it took a finger tip save from the Jumilla keeper to keep it out of the net. Three minutes later another excellent save by the visiting keeper denied Chino again as Mazarron continued to impress.
It took until the 28th minute for Jumilla's first shot which was from distance and easily collected by Pablo in the Mazarrón goal. Then, to emphasise the state of the pitch Raul received the ball, turned and his shot beat the keeper but not the mud as the ball stuck a foot from the line before being cleared.
Mazarron were made to pay for the missed chances on 33 minutes when a strike from 25 years deceived Pablo and went into the top corner of the net to give Jumilla the lead at half time.
If the first half was all Mazarrón the second was an even contest with both sides playing good football despite the pitch cutting up. Two minutes after the restart Jimmy brought a fingertip save from the Jumilla keeper and shortly afterwards Mazarrón should have been awarded a penalty when there was a blatant handball as a Jumilla defender attempted to prevent an Andreo cross.
It was then the turn of Jumilla to suffer due to the atrocious pitch, Mazarrón were caught short at the back as they pressed forward and Pablo saw a Jumilla forward bearing down on his goal. He went to ground too early and the forward dribbled past him but, as he pulled the trigger to shoot, the ball stuck in the mud and his resultant miss kick went wide of the empty net.
Mazarron's last chance came when Boudia hit the post from almost on the goal line when he should have scored.
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR
Jumilla have scored 44 goals this season so far and nearly half of them, 19, have been scored by Nicolas Damian Carrasco Gomez who normally wears the number 9 shirt, he averages nearly a goal a game and is rarely booked. He scored twice on Friday night in their 1-3 win at Montecasillas and is currently the second highest scorer in the league. His strike partner is Juan Lopez Gomez with 9 to his name and wears the number 7 shirt.
