LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 31
Sunday 23/04/2017 kickoff 5.30pm (17:30)
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. V C.D. LUMBRERAS
For the second weekend on the trot Mazarrón FC are at home as they attempt to secure an end of season playoff place and if there was ever a better time to play the leagues bottom club who are already relegated and with only 3 wins to their name I don't know when it could be.
These are the sort of games Mazarrón must stamp their authority on and dispose of weaker opponents via a goal avalanche or at least a sizable win to ensure that they extend their season into the playoffs.
We have history on our side having the upper hand on Lumbreras for a couple of years now and who would forget the 'battle of Lumbreras' two years ago when a pitch battle broke out between Lumbreras supporters and players and the Mazarrón squad which left Tolo flat on his back on the pitch having been mugged by Lumbreras players/supporters. It was also pleasing to see that Mazarrón FC were exonerated during the subsequent enquiry carried out by the Federation.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME THE TEAMS PLAYED?
Earlier in the season the two teams met in Lumbreras and Mazarrón came home with all three points in the bag after a slow first half. All the action taking place in the second period. Here is a resumé of what happened on that days.
CD LUMBRERAS 1 - MAZARRON FC 4 (27.11.2016)
Lumbreras had the better of the first half with Juan Pedro in the Mazarron goal called into action on a number of occasions, particularly in the 16th and 18th minutes when he made two fine saves.
Mazarron eased themselves into the game and on 40th minutes threatened the Lumbreras goal when the on rushing Jimmy was denied by the home keeper. As the first half came to an end Mazarrón must have been happy to go in to the interval on level terms.
The second half was a different story and it took Mazaron only two minutes to take the lead. Raso intercepted a Lumbreras attack and played an excellent ball out of defence to Raul. The tall striker was surrounded by three defenders but still managed to lay the ball off to Jimmy who gave the Lumbreras keeper no chance.
It was 2-0 on 57 minutes when Raso again played a perfect ball out of defence to the left wing where Chino cut inside before slotting the ball home. The goal rush continued four minutes later with a move started by Mazarron keeper Juan Pedro. His clearance was headed on by Boudia into the path of Jimmy who made no mistake with his second goal of the game.
Lumbreras were forced to attack desperately and after forcing three corners they pulled a goal back when the ball fell to Moises who crashed the ball past Juan Pedro from close range after 69 minutes.
At the other end Chino's fierce drive was deflected into the side netting but Mazaron were not to be denied for long and scored again after 75 minutes. Boudia was fouled and the perfectly flighted free kick was turned in from close range by Raso.
Mazarron played out the final stages with some ease and, after a poor first half showing, ran out comfortable winners in a game which was well controlled by the match officials.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
Lumbreras, by coincidence, also missed playing game 21 the same as Mazarrón due to the 'weekend of high winds' so they also didn't have Easter off. They were at home playing Albanilla and that game finished up as a 0-1 defeat for Lumbreras even though Albanilla were reduced to ten men, the result confirming their relegation to the Primera Autonomica for next season.
Mazarrón meanwhile were also at home facing close rivals Balsicas and we all know how that went, a 5-0 rout of one of our closes rivals😎
CURRENT STATS
7th MAZARRÓN FC P 30 W 13 D 10 L 7 GF 44 GA 28 Points 49
18th CD LUMBRERAS P 30 W 3 D 4 L 23 GF 23 GA 85 Points 13
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR
As you can imagine being the bottom club in the league and only having 3 wins to your name and having only scored 23 goals all season whilst conceding 85 hot strikers and sound defence are not Lumbreras trump cards. Their top marksman is Miguel Angel Rodriguez Perez, wearing the number 10 shirt he has scored a massive 5 goals so far this season, but having said that that is almost a quarter of the goals that Lumbreras have managed so far. The other goals scored are sprinkled around the side but without anyone else making a serious contribution in the 'goal for' column.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details of any sanctions or suspensions will be posted on the forum when they are available. Although Lumbreras right winger, number 7, Francisco David Gonzalez Cabrera received his 10th booking of the season last weekend so should be missing. The lad has been an ever present for Lumbreras this season and has a couple of goals to his name.
