LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 29
5.30pm (17.30) Sunday 02/04/2017
To be played at the ESTADIO MUNICIPAL DE MAZARRON
MAZARRON F.C. v ALCANTARILLA FC
So after 11 games unbeaten the run comes to an end and to rub salt into the wounds the defeat came against arch rivals Bala Azul with ex Mazarrón players playing a major part in our downfall, so get yourself up, dust yourself down and start all over again must be the theme for Mazarrón FC as they face Alcantarilla next weekend. Alcantarilla were promoted from the Primera Autonomica last season finishing 3rd and are more than holding their own this year.
LAST WEEKEND
Whilst Mazarrón were well beaten away at Bala Azul Alcantarilla played Montecasillas at their place and came away with a fine 3-1 win which moved them into 9th place in the league which is 2 places and 7 points behind Mazarrón.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET?
ALCANTARILLA FC 1 - MAZARRON FC 1 (13.11.2016)
Mazarron came from behind to earn a point in a scrappy game away to Alcantarilla FC.
Already without key players Boudia and Koko through suspension Mazarron suffered a further blow when the home team took the lead in the fourth minute. A through ball found Salvador clear on the right and, with the Mazarron defenders vainly appealing for offside he rounded Juan Pedro before placing the ball into the empty net.
Things got worse for Mazarron when the influential Jimmy was injured after just eight minutes and had to be replaced by Cesar. On 22 minutes Mazarron were denied a blatant penalty when Cesar's shirt was pulled as he attempted to get on the end of Ruben's pass. A minute later Chino was injured following a late tackle and he had to leave the field to be substituted by David.
Raul headed straight at the Alcantarilla keeper from an excellent David cross but the young substitute then miskicked at the other end and, fortunately for Mazarron, the Alcantarilla striker blazed the ball well over the bar.
The referee was annoying the travelling supporters by failing to caution any of the home players for three nasty tackles and this was compounded when he booked captain Juan Andreo for what appeared to be an innocuous challenge.
The visitors equalised on 44 minutes when Ruben's pass to Cesar saw the substitute hit a firm drive into the corner of the net.
Mazarron started the second half well and dominated the early stages. Another good run down the left by Cesar saw his shot deflected for a corner. On 60 minutes clever play by Raul let in substitute Jose who hit a tremendous shot just over the cross bar. Almost immediately Raul had a shot blocked and the ball rebounded to Jose whose cross shot sailed harmlessly past the far post.
Cesar saw another dangerous cross just elude the onrushing Raul and Jose before Alcantarilla surged forward in the closing stages in attempt to score the winner. After 80 minutes a left wing corner was scrambled off the line by Mazarron and Juan Pedro made two saves from long range efforts.
A draw was a fair result on the balance of play in a game which neither side deserved to lose.
CURRENT STATS
7th MAZARRÓN FC P 27 W 12 D 8 L 7 GF 38 GA 27 Points 44
9th ALCANTARILLA FC P 28 W 10 D 7 L 11 GF 27 GA 25 Points 37
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR
As you might have noted from Alcantarilla goals for column getting the ball into the net has been a bit of a problem this season and this is reflected in their top marksmen, Pablo Beltran Martinez, who has the grand total of 4 goals to his name who plays number 16 and scored last weekend and his deadly partner Manuel Peñas Gomez, wearing the number 9 shirt, also with 4 goals.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Obviously Mazarrón will be with the services of Raul Torrano who got himself stupidly sent off for kicking out at a Bala Azul player on Sunday. Looking at the other Mazarrón players booked on Sunday there is a question mark over Raul Lorente Ruiz who has hit his limit of yellow cards and could be missing. We will find out when the sanctions are released on Thursday.
Meanwhile Alcantarilla should have a full deck of cards for Sunday's game.
