NEXT AWAY GAME
LIGA PHILIPS PREFERENTE GRUPO UNICO - game 26
Scheduled for Sunday 12/03/2017
To be played at the CAMPO DE FUTBOL "EL BATALAX"
U.D. ABANILLA RENESUR SL. v MAZARRÓN F.C.
Well how do you follow that great home win against Minerva that Mazarrón accomplished last Sunday? By travelling to Abanilla of course for our next away game on the road. This one of the few grounds that I've never been to so I am relying on snippets of information to piece together the background to the side and its stadium.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND
But first we have to look back at what the two teams did last weekend starting with Mazarrón. Despite going a goal down early in the first half and despite all the diving and time wasting antics of Minerva our boys stuck to the task and took all three points, deservedly, through a penalty converted by our ever reliable captain Juan Andreo and a spectacular overhead kick by Miguel. Three points in the bag and consolidation of our playoff place, although it's pretty tight at the top end of the table.
Meanwhile Abanilla were at Montecasillas in a game that was decided by three penalties and three red cards. Abanilla won on the penalty scoring but lost out in the red card department. The final score was a 1-2 away win for Abanilla which strengthened their mid table position whist consigning Montecasillas to another defeat and they are now next to bottom in the league.
WHEN WE LAST MET
Here is a résumé of the game last October when the two sides last met in Mazarrón.
Mazarrón FC 3 - UD Abanilla 0 (22.10.2016)
From the outset the home side dominated the play with the visitors seemingly not having a clue where the Mazarrón goal was.
Jimmy, making his Mazarrón debut, soon formed an excellent partnership with Chino on the left and their overlapping runs caused Abanilla heaps of problems throughout the game. As early as the 9th minute these two combined to give Jimmy a shot on goal which was clawed away by the visiting keeper.
A move on the right saw the ball a fair way out of the Abanilla goal area which their keeper ran out of the penalty box to clear but only to Andreo who stood halfway between the halfway line and the goal and as cool as a cucumber he slotted the ball back over the keepers head to open Mazarróns account.
Lack of finesse and fine goal keeping accounted for Mazarrón not increasing their lead with shots from Raul, Jimmy and headers from Boudia and Steven, making a rare start for Mazarrón, either being off target or tip round the post for a corner.
Mazarrón even colluded to fail to take a gilt edge chance to increase their lead when Raul was dumped onto his ample behind in the penalty area as he was about to pull the trigger. He took the spot kick himself which in all fairness it was well struck but the keeper did a 'Joe Hart ' taking the sting out of the shot by knocking it up before making a double save to prevent Mazarrón going further ahead.
But Mazarrón were not to be denied for long. The second goal was created by the excellent Andreo, who has grown in stature since his promotion from last seasons promotion winning juvenile side, beating two Abanilla central defenders he found Chino clear on the left who put through Jimmy for his debut goal easily beating the floundering keeper.
HALF TIME Mazarrón 2 UD Abanilla 0
Jimmy and Chino were terrorising the Abanilla right sided defenders and some of the interplay was a delight to watch. Boudia and 'Sam' tidied up at the back Andreo was in the middle directing play and poor old Pablo in the Mazarrón goal had to keep running around to keep warm.
Chances came and went but at no time were the home side under threat and attacked at will. The frustration of the Abanilla players started to show as the second half progressed as the amount of fouls and free kicks awarded against them started to mount. These frustrations lead to the visitors being reduced to 10 men following quite a nasty tackle by the visitors number 5 on Antonio which he followed up by punching Andreo in the face right in front of the female official running the line
Now one man to the good Mazarrón then proceeded to stretch the visitors by playing the ball across the pitch and Abanilla were being run ragged.
But again Mazarrón were not to be denied and it was the substitute Jose smashing a fine cross from the left past a rooted goal keeper that made it 3-0 in the 79th minute. The remainder of the game was exclusively played in the Abanilla half and if this was a boxing match the ref would have stopped it to prevent any further damage to the visitors such was Mazarróns dominance. And remember that at the stat of the game Abanilla were 8 places and 10 points ahead of us.
FINAL SCORE Mazarrón 3 v Abanilla 0
OUR OPPONENTS
Abanilla play in the "EL BATALAX" stadium on the outskirts of Abanilla. The ground is situated to the north east of Murcia City just passed the spar town of Fortunate. It is 80KM away from Camposol and the drive should take about 55 minutes. For those of you with sat navs the grounds coordinates are 38° 12' 11" N, 01° 02' 48" W. As I said previously I have never been to this ground but this is what I know about it. The stadium itself is on the western outskirts of the village and is at the end of the RM A7 which is the road between Fortuna and Abanilla. The football ground is the main focus of a multiplex sporting facility but seems quite isolated away from the village as it is set in the surrounding agricultural land. The pitch has an artificial surface, there appears to be some seating and the usual canteen/toilet facilities are available.
Abanilla play in red shirts and black shorts so Mazarrón will be in their alternative blue strip for the game.
Abanilla were promoted to our division after winning the Primera Autonomica last season and have established themselves as a strong team in the Preferente division this season.
CURRENT STATS
5th Mazarrón FC P 24 W 11 D 7 L 6 GF 36 GA 23 Points 40
10th UD Albanilla P 24 W 10 D 5 L 9 GF 37 GA 40 Points 35
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR
Abanilla almost exclusively rely upon Alberto Rocamora Muñoz for their goals. He is the leagues second highest scorer with 15 goals so far and is a threat that Mazarrón must take seriously if they are to come away with a result from this game. He wears the number 9 shirt and was responsible for the two goals that sank Montecasillas last weekend. After him the side struggles for goals and they have a leaky defence conceding 40 so far this term compered to Mazarrón have only let in 23.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details of any sanctions or suspensions will be posted on the forum and Los Amigos Facebook site when available but we already know that Abanilla will be missing Alejandro Villanueva Ferez an ever present defender who was red carded on Sunday plus their manager will be in the stands having also been sent off.
SUPPORTERS AWAY COACH
Details of the supporters away coach will be published on the Mazarrón forum and the Los Amigos Facebook site when available.
