NEXT HOME GAME
MAZARRÓN FC v CARTAGENA FC-UCAM
4.30pm (16.30) Sunday 18th December 2016
I sometimes lose touch with teams from Cartagena who call themselves Cartagena FC or FC Cartagena or Cartagena FC 'B' or .......... well you get my drift, so it's difficult to bring to mind when or indeed if we have played a team calling itself Cartagena whatever.
For our next, and final game of 2016 we entertain Cartagena FC, one of two teams in our league this season with that name, although the other one does have a 'B' suffix. The team we are facing has a UCAM suffix so they are affiliated to the Murcia university in some way. The badge on their shirt doesn't feature the famous submarine which is shown on main Cartagena FC team who currently play in the segunda 'B' division so I would imagine that they are not connected in anyway but besides that their strip is identical being black and white stripes as per Newcastle.
So what do we know of this particular team. Well they played in the Tercera league, the division above ours unti the 2014-15 season where they finished 16th and fell through the relegation trap door. Last season they finished a credible 10th in our division but we did do the double over them. They are currently enjoying life in this lower division and currently sit in 4th place in the league so are no mugs even though they were relegated last year.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
Mazarrón FC were away at Plus Ultra when three points were safely gathered in via Ruben and an excellent own goal. A job well done.
Meanwhile Cartagena entertained second from bottom and relegation candidates Montecasillas for a Thursday night clash and Montecasillas could only field two substitutes! There was only ever going to be one outcome to this game and Cartagena duly won 3-0 but it took them until the 63rd minute to score and break relegation threatened Montecasillas down.
CURRENT STATS
4th Cartagena FC-UCAM P 16 W 8 D 6 L 2 GF 26 GA 14 Points 30
9th Mazarrón FC P 16 W 6 D 4 L 6 GF 18 GA 15 Points 22
OPPONENTS TOP SCORERS
Cartagena have three players who know where the net is, first is Corbalan Alvaro Cordero Martinez who has 7 to his name so far this season and two players with 5, Severino Utrera Rodriguez and Andres Alonso Sanchez. Although surprisingly the three goals scored last Thursday were all scored by substitutes, so Sam and his defensive team need to be on the ball next weekend.
SANCTIONS AND SUSPENSIONS
Details of sanctions and suspensions plus any other team news will be published on the Mazarrón FC forum when available.
