FINAL GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON
MAZARRON FC v CD JUVENIA
Kickoff 6pm SUNDAY 22nd MAY 2016
If I had to choose a location and opposition for our final game of the season it would be at home against the bottom club in the league and my wish has been granted.
This is possibly the most important game that Mazarron FC will play this season against an opposition who we know well, who we have defeated away earlier this season and in the playoffs last season in our promotion year. We cannot get this game wrong, it must be 3 points to cement a playoff place, we cannot think "Ah well, they are the bottom club and all we have to do is turn up" if we go into this game in that frame of mind we could well have our bottoms bit.
But I'm sure that Victor will have ensured the squad will be up for this season extending encounter and I hope that the lads will take on Juvenia in the correct state of mind to guarantee 3 vitally needed points.
OUR OPPONENTS
Despite losing out in the playoffs last season to Mazarron FC, Juvenia were promoted when other teams in the Preferente folded leaving room for their promotion to this higher division, but form will out and our opponents have found this season very hard going indeed.
CD Juvenia were relegated back to the Primera autonomica way back on 17th April when the gap to safety became beyond their reach and since have only picked up 3 points. In total they have only won four games this season drawing just four and losing the rest, in doing so, up to now, they have conceded 74 goals. It's just not gone right for them as they have conceded more goals than any other team in the league and have scored fewer than anyone else, just 27.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET?
CD JUVENIA 1 MAZARRON FC 2 (10.1.2016)
Without three players through suspension and a further two through injury, Mazarron never really played to their full potential in this game and Juvenia took a shock lead in only the second minute when a left wing free kick allowed Gomez to nip in behind two defenders and force the ball over the line.
But It took only seven minutes for Mazarron to equalise when Palote burst through to fire in a powerful shot which was well saved by the home keeper. The ball rebounded to Palote who was fouled with a rash tackle from behind and Juan Andreo stepped up to stroke the ball calmly home from the penalty kick.
Mazarron should have taken the lead when Willy's pass found Palote in the clear but the striker overran the ball.
Mazarron started the second half well and Palote went close with an audacious chip from 40 yards which almost caught the home keeper unawares.
Silverio and substitute Hafid both had half chances to put Mazarron ahead before a superb through ball saw Willy using his tremendous speed to outpace three defenders before slotting the ball past the Juvenia keeper to the delight of the travelling Mazarron supporters.
At the time this result took Mazarron into fourth position just a point from an automatic promotion spot.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
Whilst Mazarron FC travelled to the already promoted La Hoya where they were cheated out of a fair result by dubious decisions by the match officials and gamesmanship by the local football staff, then reduced to 9 men and lost 4-1 in what, some might say but I couldn't possibly comment, appeared to be a pre ordained win for the home team.
Meanwhile CD Juvenia were at home for the last time in this league playing Mazarrons playoff rivals CD Algar where they failed to score in a 0-2 home defeat with both sides being reduced to 9 men in a feisty encounter. This win puts CD Algar above Mazarron, cheers Juvenia.
In this game Juvenias top scorer was again missing for the second week since he scored a hat trick against Beniajan and they could only field 5 substitutes. Both their players sent off were forwards but have only three goals between them this season.
CURRENT STATS
7th MAZARRON FC P 33 W 15 D 9 L 9 GF 54 GA 45 Points 54
18th CD JUVENIA P 34 W 4 D 4 L 25 GF 27 GA 74 Points 16
WHO TO WATCH OUT FOR?
Juvenia, as you can imagine, do not rate to high in the goal scoring league with Javier Baños Barcelo their leading striker with 5 (3 in one game) at an average of 0.3 goals per game and he collects yellow cards like confetti, he has been missing off Juvenias team list for two games now, injured/left?
After him they have Javier Alamo Soler with 4 and that's 0.2 per game. So you can see where their problems are.
TEAM NEWS
Details of suspensions and other team news will be posted on the Mazarron form www.mazarronfc.es and the Los amigos de Mazarron Facebook page as soon as we get to know any information, but we know that we will be without Antonio, the goalkeeper, and Rollon for this game at least. Whilst Juvenia will be without the services of Jesus Francisco RUIZ MARTINEZ, and Alfonso Montoya GOMEZ both having been sent off last weekend.
