IT'S THE BIG ONE
MAZARRON FC v BALA AZUL
KICKOFF 6pm (18.00) SUNDAY 24th APRIL 2016
Please note that the gate prices for this game will be reduced to €3 for adults whilst under 16 are free. Unlike some local teams, Bala Azul and Totana to name two, we, Mazarron FC, have more respect for our supporters and we have declined to have 'club days' where prices are raised for high attendance games. We are a community based football team who doesn't fleece their supporters for a quick gain.
But Jose, the club president, will be assembling a big raffle prize for the game, and we hope that you will continue to support the club raffle and buy a ticket or two as it is an important element in match day revenues combined with the canteen takings and entrance money.
THE GAME
A few weeks ago this fixture looked like a guaranteed 3 points for Mazarron as Bala Azul were, at that time, a complete basket case, sitting at the bottom of the league being trounced by everyone. But recently they have got rid of the hapless ex Mazarron FC manager Agustine and his entourage and they have been replaced by the ex coach of Olympico Totana and he has steadied the ship but they are still three places from the bottom of the league fighting to avoided relegation. Two weeks ago they travelled to lofty Olympico Totana and thrashed them on their own pitch 1-5 but were hammered 7-1 last weekend at CD Algar. So what I am saying is that Bala Azul must be treated with respect by Mazarron especially as it is a local derby where form goes out of the window.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET?
Last season Bala Azul were in this division, one division higher than Mazarron, finishing in a mid table 12th place so it was interesting to see how the two teams would shape up not having played each other for a few years, but it was Mazarron who came away with the points. Here's what happened:
CD BALA AZUL 0 MAZARRON FC 1 (29.11.2015)
The game began with the home team on the defensive and happy to concede possession to Mazarron instead relying on breakaways. Hafid had an early shot for Mazarron deflected for a corner from which Juan Andreo fired over the crossbar. Mazarron maintained this pressure throughout the half.
After 40 minutes Palote at last put the ball in the next but the goal was cancelled out for offside.
The first half came to a close with Mazarron wondering how they had not taken the lead.
At half time new signing Willy, now a crowd favourite, came on to join battle and made a good early impression first on the right and then when moved over to the left with some good crosses.
The Bala Azul keeper made a number of really good saves before Mazarron were again denied a goal by an offside flag and Bala Azul were happy to play out time with the usual timewasting measures, However, the deadlock was broken in the last minute of normal time when Palote picked up the ball in midfield and ran on to round the keeper and fire into an empty net.
The goal was greeted by mass celebrations by the team and supporters alike but the tension continued as the referee then played a further ten minutes of extra time before finally blowing the final whistle.
But as I said previously Bala Azul are now a different animal.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
Mazarron FC travelled to close rivals for promotion, Montecasillas FC where they romped to a 2-4 away win despite having Juanma sent off for a second yellow card. So we had to beat 11 opposion players and a bias ref that was until Palote evened thing up by putting an opponent through a metal fence, accidentally of course.
Meanwhile Bala Azul were playing away for the second week on the trot at CA Algar where they were at the end of a 7-1 thrashing. Win 1-5 one weekend then lose 7-1 the next? What's going on there then?
CURRENTLY STATS
4th MAZARRON FC P 29 W 14 D 8 L 7 GF 51 GA 39 Points 50
16th BALA AZUL P 29 W 6 D 5 L 18 GF 31 GA 51 Points 23
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR?
Bala Azul have a number of ex Mazarron FC players in their ranks, Jose Da, and Dani to name two but their main threat is from top scorer, and another former Mazarron FC striker Robert Laurentiu Craciun who had 10 goals to his name. Their next highest score, would you believe it, is ex Mazarron FC hero but now unfortunately not available to play through illness, TOLO, who has 3 to his name even though he hasn't played since the early days of this season. But the new guy has drafted in a number of new players who have give a good account of themselves.
SUSPENSIONS/SANCTIONS AND OTHER TEAM NEWS
We welcome back Alfonso and Juanalu from their suspensions but will be without the ever busy Juanma following his two yellow cards at Montecasillas, a pity as he is one of the unsung heroes of the team
