NEXT HOME GAME
MAZARRON FC v CD CIEZA
KICKOFF 6pm (18.00) SUNDAY 10th APRIL 2016
With the recent movement of the clocks forward so does the kickoff time of the home games and Mazarron FC are back at home for out next game and it's just 7 more games until the end of the season, my how time fly.
Our guests next weekend are a side who I have mixed memories of but mostly bad ones with their fans and players not being the best behaved. Who can forget their supporters stoning our away coach after a game and their atrocious behaviour inside their ground? But I'm sure any visiting fans will get a suitably warm and courteous welcome in our municipal stadium.
CD Cieza and Mazarron FC were two division apart this time last season but whilst Mazarron had a great promotion year, Cieza finished 18th in the Tercera division and were relegated. Cieza always prides itself as a sporting town and the relegation must have hit them pretty hard.
WHAT HAPPENED THE LAST TIME WE MET?
The first meeting between the sides took place in November last year as Mazarron extended their unbeaten run to seven games with a hard earned 2-2 draw away to Cieza a game they could and should have won. And here's what happened.
CD CIEZA 2 MAZARRON FC 2 (15.11.2015)
After both sides struggled with the uneven pitch early on the first action of note was a lovely ball from Champi which found Palote racing down the left but his cross was just behind Jose and the Cieza defence cleared the danger.
But it was Cieza who took the lead when a through ball found Garcia in what appeared to be an offside position but he was allowed to run on and place the ball firmly past Antonio in the Mazarron goal.
At this stage Mazarron were not at the top of their game with the only other effort of note coming when good play by Palote and Santi saw Champi shoot just over the bar.
The second half certainly made up for a drab first 45 minutes with Mazarron created two chances in the opening minutes of the second period before equalising after 50 minutes when the Cieza keeper kicked the ball into the path of Jose under pressure and the Mazarron striker made no mistake with his eighth goal of the season.
Mazarron then took the lead when Palote latched on to a through ball and was brought down by the Cieza keeper as he attempted to dribble round him to place the ball into an empty net. It was a blatant penalty but, to the disgust of the travelling Mazarron supporters, the keeper was only shown a yellow card. Captain Juan Andreo took the spot kick and calmly stroked the ball into the corner of the net to make the score 2-1 to the visitors.
On 70 minutes on the clock Cieza equalised when Juanma was penalised for a late tackle in the area and Balsalobre made no mistake with the penalty kick.
After 77 minutes Palote was again brought down in the penalty area by the Cieza keeper but this time the referee waved play on. Following that incident Palote was sent off after disputing the decision. Will this lad never learn that officials never change decisions and if you argue with them you'll get sent off.
Although down to 10 men Mazarron still pressed forward in search of a winner with Jose going close with a clever chip after good work by substitute Rollon. In the dying minutes Juanito should have won the game for Mazarron when Jose's pass put him in the clear but, with only the keeper to beat, he placed the ball inches wide of the far post.
HOW DID THE SIDES GET ON LAST WEEKEND?
Whilst Mazarron travelled to Molina minus 7 first team squad members through suspension/work commitments or injury they came away with a creditable 0-0 draw but could have snatched all three points if the striker had been more assertive with their finishing instead of dithering.
CD Cieza were at home to CD Algar where the final score was a 1-0 home win for Cieza although they were playing against 10 men for part of the game after Algar had a player sent off.
These results leave the two sides just places and 2 points apart.
CURRENT STATS
4th MAZARRON FC P 27 W 13 D 7 L 7 GF 46 GA 36 Points 46
6th CD CIEZA P 27 W 12 D 8 L 7 GF 38 GA 30 Points 44
WHO TO LOOK OUT FOR
Cieza's top marksman is Jesus Moreno Garcia and with 7 goals in 14 games so he's averaging a goal every second game, they also have Javier Lucas Bello on 6 goals. So again this is another team without an out and out top marksman but depend on the whole team contributing.
TEAM NEWS
Mazarron with hopefully have at least 4 of the 7 players missing last weekend returning for this fixture but Palote will be sitting out the second of his 4 match ban.
Enrique could well be missing after picking up his 5th booking in last weekends game.
Other team news and suspensions will be published on the Mazarron FC forum as they become available on www.mazarronfc.es
Weather for next Sunday's game is forecast for 22 centigrade in the shade with a few clouds about. Take a hat, a red hat.
