NEXT AWAY GAME
JUMILLA CD v MAZARRON FC
Saturday 12th or Sunday 13th March 2016
Jumill CD have tended to play their home fixtures on the Sunday of the scheduled weekend.
The trip to Jumilla is an away fixture that I always look forward to. It is a pleasant journey through the heart of the wine producing area of Murcia, the town is very pleasant and the stadium is first class plus we have had some good results on this pitch in the past.
Jumilla CD played in the Preferente autonomica last season finishing a lowly 14th but are having a bit better time this season as they currently sit in 11th place. They travelled to Mazarron last October and left with a point, here is a résumé of what happened.
MAZARRON FC 1 JUMILLA CD 1 (25.10.2015)
This seems a reoccurring theme for Mazarron throughout this season but in this game Mazarron were denied a victory they richly deserved when the referee controversially disallowed an 85th minute goal by Palote.
Jumilla came to Mazarron unbeaten and started the brighter of the two teams. But Mazarron soon took control of the game with Jumilla's first shot coming after 27 minutes but it was the home team dominating but without creating any clear cut chances.
With the score being 0-0 at half time and following a couple of inspired substitutions Mazaron took the lead after 52 minutes when a through ball found Jose before he dribbling round the keeper and coolly slotting the ball into the net.
Mazarron had the ball in the net again when Palote's audacious back heeled to Champi who crossed Juanitio to score but the linesman's offside flag was up.
Mazarron were rampant by now and Juanito hit a fierce shot from the edge of the penalty area which was tipped round the post by the visiting keeper.
But here comes the sucker punch when, totally against the run of play, Jumilla equalised when a right wing corner was forced home by Gomez with the Mazarron defenders appealing in vain for a blatant handball.
Mazarron continued to press forward in search of a winner and they seemed to be rewarded after 85 minutes when Palote's shot was blocked at the first attempt by the Jumilla keeper but he managed to force the rebound over the line. The referee appeared to point to the centre spot and the linesman ran back to the middle as the Mazarron players and supporters celebrated wildly. The celebrations were short lived, however, as the game restarted with a free kick to Jumilla with players and spectators alike having no idea what had happened.
At the final whistle Mazarron players surrounded the referee and Juanlu was shown a red card before the referee was escorted to the dressing rooms running the gauntlet of very angry spectators. It had been a magnificent performance by a Mazarron team who were denied a win which would have been fully deserved.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND
Mazarron FC were at home to Cartagena hoping to recover from a dip in form which they duly did with a solid 2-1 win. The first goal being a corker with Palote chipping the visiting goalkeeper from a full 30 meters and the second from the penalty spot curtesy of Juan Andreo.
Mean while Jumilla CD were away at CD Algar losing 2-1 with their goal being a 89th minute consolation.
CURRENT STATS
5th MAZARRON FC P 24 W 12 D 5 L 7 GF 42 GA 34 Points 41
11th JUMILLA CD P 24 W 9 D 7 L 8 GF 29 GA 24 Points 34
TRAVELLING TO JUMILLA AND STADIUM INFORMATION.
As I have said previously you will not be disappointed if you are making the trip to Jumilla although it is the longest away trip of the season at 118Km which will take about 75 minutes. The countryside is breathtaking and the town, ground and reception at Jumilla is first class.
Jumilla CD play in the "LA HOYA" stadium in the town and has an impressive stand, first class toilet and canteen facilities (I especially liked the sausage bread rolls on my last visit) the only slight down side is that there is a bit of a ruining track between the stand and the natural grass pitch which puts the play a bit further away from the spectators.
For those who are independently travelling the stadiums co ordinates are 38° 28' 17" N, 01° 19' 24" W
I understand that the Los Amigos away coach might be leaving a bit earlier for this game so supporters can have a good look around the town and have a bite to eat and drink prior to the game. Go to Los amigos Facebook site for details.
Jumilla CD play in a blue and white striped shirt, a la Sheffield Wednesday, so Mazarron should be in their usual RED strip.
Weather forecast for the game is for 20 degrees centigrade with sunshine and few clouds. Remember that Jumilla is not only further North than Mazarron but also at a higher altitude so I would advise taking warm clothing.
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Jumillas goals have generally come from around the side with their top scorer Nicolas Damian Carrasco Gomez scoring just 4 goals all season (one against Mazarron) and in fact the team as a whole have only found the back of the net 29 times so far which puts them as the lowest scoring team outside of the relegation zone but with only 24 goals conceded, which is one of the best in the league, you can see that this team is build around a solid defence.
TEAM NEWS
Details of suspensions/sanction will be published on the Mazarron FC web site forum www.mazarronfc.es as details of any team news becomes available. But Jumilla will be missing Efrain Sanchez Bergna who was suspended for 4 games at the end of February for questioning the ref's parentage. He has only scored once this season so I would imagine he's a defender.
