NEXT HOME GAME
The details of the home game agains Cartagena FC are as following.
MAZARRON FC v CARTAGENA FC
SUNDAY 6th MARCH 2016
KCK-OFF 5pm (17.00)
This is of course Mothering Sunday and what could make a better present than to take the mother of your children to the game?
OK next up is Cartagena FC and is one of the most attractive ties of our season with both sides going for promotion, and remember that our visitors were relegated last season from the Tercera division and are looking for a quick return. The last time we met which was in October last year it was a had fought game decided by the odd goal in five in the favour of Mazarron FC and to remind you of what happened here is a brief resume of the game:-
CARTAGENA FC 2 MAZARRON FC 3 (17.10.2015)
It was a good day for Mazarron who completed three wins on the bounce and also condemned Cartagena to their first defeat of the season at that time.
With a tall squad Cartagena caused Mazarron problems with long balls played into the box. But it was Mazarron who took the lead after 9 minutes when Juan Fran headed a corner home. 0-1
Mazarron made it 0-2 when Alberto found Jose who fired a strong shot past the Cartagena keeper.
Cartagena were soon back in the game when from a free kick poor defending allowed a Cartagena forward to force the ball home and reduce the arrears. 1-2
Just before half-time Cartagena drew level with a controversial goal. When both the referee and linesman missed an obvious offside and allowed a scrambled goal so we went into the break 2-2.
The second half started with chances at both ends and the game was being played at a high tempo. But it was Mazarron who was forcing the play with the Cartagena goal coming under constant pressure.
On 35 minutes this pressure paid off when Mazarron scored their third and decisive goal. A move down the centre of the pitch resulted in shots on goal by both Palote and Juanito before the ball fell to Jose who smashed it into the net for the winning goal.
WHAT HAPPENED LAST WEEKEND?
Perhaps both sides will be looking for a marked improvement on last weekends performances following disappointing results and with just the one point separating the sides this is a must win game for both sides.
Mazarron traveled to Alquerias when they suffered a 2-0 loss in perhaps their poorest performance of the season, they didn't adapt to the strong wind and failed to take a number of gilt edged chances.
Meanwhile Cartagena were held at home by CD Algar and that game ended as a boring 0-0 draw.
CURRENT STATS
6th MAZARRON FC P 23 W 11 D 5 L 7 GF 40 GA 32 Points 38
7th CARTAGENA FC P 23 W 9 D 10 L 4 GF 34 GA 23 Points 37
PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
Cartagena FC doesn't have an out an out top scorer and rely on members of their squad chipping in with goal, this is shown by the fact that their top scorer Mario Nicolas Solano and Marin Alberto Garcia have only 6 goals each from 23 games but a number of other players have contributed to their goal tally.
