NEXT GAME
OLÍMPICO DE TOTANA v MAZARRÓN F.C. Scheduled for Saturday 6th or Sunday 7th February 2016 Although they normally play on a Sunday afternoon. Exact details as soon as we get them.
Perhaps a season defining game is awaiting us following the one week break following the Beniajan CF game as 3rd placed Totana welcome 4th placed Mazarron FC.
Both teams are vying for a top two finish with a play off place is also on the cards for both sides.
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE LAST MET
This is the second encounter of the Season with our close neighbours and we can only hope that it turns out better this time.
When we first played each other at Mazarron our lads were still trying to get to know one another as the team had only just formed as apposed to the settled Totana unit who had kept the majority of their players from the previous season and it showed. Here's what happened.
MAZARRON FC 1 OLIMPICO DE TOTANA 3 (20.9.2015)
Three goals in the first eighteen minutes were enough for Totana to take all three points.
Mazarron's defence was all over the place during the opening stages of this game and by the time they had sorted themselves out they were already three goals down.
Totana took the lead after just 4 minutes when a fierce shot was deflected onto the post by Antonio but a visiting forward was on hand to hit home the rebound.
On 9 minutes it was 2-0 when a cross was headed past Antonio and the game was over as a contest when on 18 minutes Antonio made a good block only for the rebound to be fired home.
It took until the 39th minutes before Rollon's shot was saved by the Totana keeper this was followed by Cristian whose long range effort was easily saved.
After some half time substitutions Mazarron came more into the game with attacks mainly from the right. On 49 minutes Jose headed just wide but 4 minutes later the same player rose to head the ball home to reduce the arrears.
Mazarron had further scares including the ever aware Juan Andreo having to clear off the line. The now departed Juanito was making excellent runs down the left but to no avail and despite more Mazarron pressure in the closing stages they were unable to reduce the deficit further.
This was the last home defeat suffered by Mazarron until late November as the team started to blend as a unit and put together a run of great results.
Man of the Match; Mounir
LAST WEEKEND
As you know Mazarron FC, at home, stormed into a 4-1 lead by half time against Beniajan CF before taking their foot off the gas with the final score being 4-2.
Meanwhile Totana were on the road at CD Algar where in, what sounds to be, a bad tempered game Totana came out on top against 9 man CD Algar. Totana came back from a goal down and sealed the game with a late, late disputed penalty. Old boy Jose Ruben didn't even make the Algar bench for the game, up to his old tricks again?

It is not known at this time the details, if any, of the away supporters coach.
The ground is a neat stadium with an excellent covered stand with plastic seating down one side of the pitch. It has a very good canteen, although there is a bar across the road who's upstairs terrace overlooks the ground and has a fine menu. The pitch is natural grass. The toilet facilities at the stadium are first class so all in all a pleasant place to spend an afternoon watching football.
COLOURS
Totana play in red and white stripes, a la Southampton, so Mazarron FC will be in their alternative BLUE strip.

FINAL SCORE
TOTANA 2 MAZARRON FC 0
Two evenly balanced teams fought out a first half with both sides matching the other, but it could have been so different had the match officials had the guts to penalise Totana's goal keeper and sent him off.
On arrival at the ground we found out that our near neighbours had declared the game a 'club day' upping the entry price to €6 and if you take into consideration that Totana's season ticket is just €25 this was a blatant 'rip off' of fans. Jose said that we will remember this next season.
The first half went from end to end both sides matching each other but it was a blatant foul by the Totana goal keeper which changed the game.
A delightful ball was pushed through into space behind the Totana defence and with Mazarron forwards bearing down on the goal the goal keeper came a good two meters out of his area and pushed the ball away with both hands denying a goal scoring opportunity. It should have been a foul to Mazarron and a RED card card for the keeper but the officials, both linesman and the ref had a clear view but didn't have the nuts to send the keeper off for the blatant offence.
I was in direct line with this incident and interestingly so was an official from the Murcian federation who was there to assess the officials.
At the end of the game I said to him that overall I thought that the official had a good game but the Totana keeper should not have remained on the pitch after the blatant hand ball, he agreed with me and said it should have been a red card. I hope that the official wages are deducted and they are dropped to officiating juvenile games.
Mazarron in the second half somewhat went off the boil but it took two dead ball situations to beat them. Both of Totana's goals came from free kicks, one direct from one on the edge of the box and the other a free kick floated into the box and hit on the volley.
This game should have, could have, would have had a different out come I'm sure if it wasn't for weak match officials.

Match report by Dave Capper
OLIMPICO DE TOTANA 2 MAZARRON FC 0
Totana eventually came out on top in this local derby but the game hinged on a controversial decision by the match officials in the 20th minute.
Mazarron were without two key defenders in Juan Fran and Lorca, but were the better team for 70 minutes of the game. A dangerous free kick from Willy after only two minutes was scrambled clear by the Totana defence and at the other end the home team rattled the cross bar with a fierce shot.
After 20 minutes a superb through ball from Jose saw Palote outstripping the home defence. The Totana keeper raced out of his area and blatantly handled Palote's attempt to steer the ball past him. It was a clear red card offence but the officials allowed play to continue without even awarding a free kick to Mazarron.
Three minutes later another excellent free kick from Willy sailed just wide of the near post. Totana's best chance of a first half in which they were decidedly second best came after a Mazarron corner broke down. The ball was quickly transferred to the halfway line where a home forward ran through only to be denied a goal by the onrushing Paco who cleared the danger with his chest. Mazarron again dominated the early stages of the second half and almost scored after the best move of the game. Willy beat two men on the left wing before passing inside to Jose. The striker swivelled and found substitute Enrique whose shot hit the post before rebounding clear.
Willy then sent Jose racing clear of the Totana defence but he delayed his shot too long and the danger was cleared. After 65 minutes Paco dived to save a Totana shot and was quick to pounce on the rebound but the home team who took the lead on 67 minutes. Mounir was clearly fouled on the halfway line but the referee waved play on and Juanlu was forced to concede a free kick on the edge of the penalty area. Martinez drilled the ball into the far corner to give Totana an underserved lead.
Mazarron's heads fell after this and the inevitable flurry of yellow cards for both teams disrupted the flow of the game. Totana increased their lead after 87 minutes when a long ball was only half cleared by Mazarron and Mario Gomez hit a left foot shot over Paco into the roof of the net.
Team: Paco; Mounir; Alberto (Jesus); Juan Andreo; Alfonso; Juanlu (Hafid); Rollon (Enrique); Cristian (Santi); Willy; Palote; Jose.
Man of the Match; Juan Andreo
