Here are the details, as far as we know them at this time, for our next game which is again an away game. And remember that we are only one point behind the second placed team in the league, Monticasillas FC, who currently hold that second automatic promotion place behind our next opponents Sangonera. Last season they finished in 6th place in this league missing out on promotion in the play off games.
SANGONERA C.F. v MAZARRÓN F.C.
Scheduled for Sunday 17th January 2016
More details as I get them.
So it's the start of the second half of the season and here's hoping that we have a better time than the start of the first half when we only took one point from the first four games, but having said that after that blip we have been on a decent run since.
Next weekend we travel to outright leaders of the division, Sangonera CF, and a ground where I do not have many happy memories as we always seem to come up short there, so what a better time to break the mould.
Cast your mind back to the start of this season and for our first game we welcomed Sangonera to our stadium that ended in a 0-2 defeat although Mazarron were equal to their opponents for most of the game but two goals in the closing stages wrapped up the points for the visitors.
In the early stages of the game Mazarron had the upper hand and nearly took the lead when Enrique latched onto a loose ball and, from just outside the box, drew an outstanding save from the Sangonera keeper and later in the half Jose just failed to make contact with an excellent cross from Alfonso.
Mazarron started the second half brighter and again almost took the lead when a free kick was deflected goalwards only to be cleared off the line. Two minutes later the Sangonera keeper made an excellent save following a Mazarron corner. It was then Palote turn to go close when he had two shots saved in quick succession. The game continued to flow from end to end before a Mazarron corner was headed just over the bar by Juanma.
Sangonera took the lead with just over 20 minutes remaining when Alvaro's free kick from the edge of the penalty area took a wicked deflection and sailed over the stranded Antonio.
At this point Mazarron threw caution to the wind and the visiting keeper pulled off a number of fine saves to deny them. Mazarron's best chance to rescue the game came in the 86th minute when a delightful free kick from the right was cleared off the line. Unfortunately, with Mazarron committed to attack they fell to the classic "sucker punch". As the ball was cleared off the line it was hacked forward and Miguel gave the Mazarron keeper no chance to make the score 2-0.
LAST WEEKEND
As you are well aware justice was done when a late Willy goal gave Mazarron all three points at Juvenia even though we had five players missing through suspension or injury. All but one, Juanma, should be back and fit for this game. That win not only took us close to the automatic promotion place, just one point away, but put us 5 points clear of 7th placed La Hoya who are just outside of the play off places, so this is a very important game indeed if we are to maintain our push for second successive promotions.
Sangonera in the meantime took on CD Algar, who featured one of our favourite old boys Jose Ruben, as a substitute. The final score was a 2-0 victory to Sangonera with the game being sealed with a unfortunate 'own goal' by a CD Algar player.
CURRENT STATS
1st SANGONERA CF P 17 W 12 D 4 L 1 GF 38 GA 11 Points 40
4th MAZARRON FC P 17 W 9 D 4 L 4 GF 31 GA 21 Points 31
So you can see the reason for their success so far, scoring well and conceding few.
OPPOSITION PLAYERS TO WATCH-OUT FOR
RAFAEL RAMOS JIMENEZ had scored 8 goals so far this season with his strike partner ANTONIO VILLA LOPEZ PEDRO scoring 5 but having said our front two of Jose and Palote have scored 8 and 6 respectively so on the face of it pretty even Stevens for me.
WHERE ARE WE TRAVELLING TO?
Sangonera CF play in Sangonera La Verde in the "EL MAYAYO" stadium and for those making their own way there the co ordinates are 37° 55' 24" N, 01° 11' 37" W There is plenty of parking outside of the ground. Distance to their stadium is just 52km and should take no more than 35 minutes.
The supporters away coach details will be posted as soon as they are known.
This is a tight (small) ground with a artificial surface only laid two seasons ago so should be in good condition. There is seating on both sides of the ground, one in the sun the other in the shade, take your pick but at this time of the year I know where I'll be sitting. There is the usual canteen facilities and a modern toilet block
SHIRT COLOURS
Sangonera wear a wasp like yellow and black striped top so Mazarron FC will be in RED for this game, so dig your red tops out.
SUSPENSIONS
As we know Mazarron FC will be without Juanma who sits out his second of a two match ban for being nasty to a linesman, other sanctions will be posted when available.
