Match report with thanks to Dave Capper
CARTAGENA FC 2 MAZARRON FC 3
Mazarron made it three wins on the trot and, in doing so, inflicted on Cartagena their first defeat of the season.
Mazarron were soon on the defensive as Cartagena tried to make use of home advantage. With a lot of tall players in the team they caused Mazarron some problems with long balls played into the box. However, it was Mazarron who took the lead after 9 minutes when Juan Fran rose high to send a header from a left wing free kick over the keeper and into the net.
Mazarron central defender Lorca was injured and replaced by Juan Andreo but they increased their lead after 28 minutes when Alberto made a run down the right and found Jose who fired a strong shot past the Cartagena keeper.
Cartagena were spurred into action and Mazarron had to concede a number of free kicks. From one of these kicks on the right hand side, poor defending allowed a Cartagena forward to force the ball home and reduce the arrears.
Three minutes before half -time Cartagena drew level with a controversial goal. The referee and linesman's interpretation of the offside law allowed a scrambled goal to count and half time arrived with the teams level.
For the start of the second half Mounir and Hafid were replaced by Palote and Jesus and Mazarron keeper Antonio was forced into early action. At the other end Jose forced the Cartagena keeper into a good save from a corner.
The game was being played at a fast pace with both sides striving to take control of the game but it was Mazarron who took the initiative forcing a number of corners and free kicks as the pressure started to build on the home team.
With thirty five minutes of the second half gone Mazarron scored their third goal when a move down the centre of the pitch resulted in shots on goal by both Palote and Juanito before the fell to Jose who smashed it into the net for what turned out to be the winning goal.
Team: Antonio; Juan Fran; Mounir (Jesus); Lorca (Juan Andreo); Alberto; Juanlu; Santi; Enrique(Champi); Juanito (Silverio); Jose; Hafid (Palote).
Man of the match, Jose
