That was a damp squib start last night!
Malaga 0-0 Sevilla.
Sevilla end with 10 men.
Let's hope it gets better.

Watch out for Roberto Soldado this season.
Following his move from Spurs to Villarreal, he scored on his debut last week against Real Betis and hit the back of the net again tonight as the Yellow Submarines trounced Espanyol 3-1.

Time now to sit back and watch the Liverpool Old Boys!
Torres versus Suarez and Mascherano.
Ray Hudson's back....
"Great run by Iniesta....like a squirrel on a telephone wire!"
Half-time....stalemate.
50 mins and Torres does what he does best....clinical.
1-0 to Atléti.
53 mins and all square again...Neymar's free kick makes it 1-1.
75 mins...Leo makes it 1-2 to Barca.
And that's how it ends.

Saturday 2nd.
Well now, it could be all change this weekend!!!
From top of the Christmas Tree, Barca could be just hanging on to 2nd place (via the head-to-head rule) by close of play on Sunday.
With a full-strength team out, they could only manage a wimpish 0-0 draw against mid-table Espanyol.
Atlético should easily see-off rock-bottom Levante later on Saturday and Real will slaughter Neville's Valencia tomorrow.
Which will mean....
Atlético 41 pts.
Barca 39 pts.
Real 39 pts.
Only the 4-0 win in Madrid keeping Barca above Real.

... and Real will slaughter Neville's Valencia ... They might have done if Kovacic hadn't seen red! So lucky Barca stay 2 points clear of Real in second place.

Anything Barca can do, Real can do better!
5-0 they win against Deportivo.
And a hat-trick here too. But not for Cristiano!
3 for Bale and 2 for Benzema.

Looks like Atléti may have blown it!
TWO dismissals. Filipe for scything down Messi (straight red) and Godin for two assassination attempts on his Uruguayan 'mate' Suarez!
Messi and Suarez had the last laughs though with their goals outdoing Koke's early effort.
Final score 2-1.
Barca now 3 points clear with a game in hand.

TAXI FOR SEÑOR NEVILLE
Gary Neville's Valencia were booed by their own supporters after Antonio Sanabria's penalty eased Sporting Gijon's relegation worries.
Neville is still waiting for a first league win since taking charge of Valencia in December.
Former Barcelona B striker Sanabria, on loan from Roma, scored his fourth goal in two games after Danilo tripped Jony.

TAXI FOR SEÑOR NEVILLE Neville is still waiting for a first league win since taking charge of Valencia in December. And he may still be waiting after tonight! 52 mins and Oscar Duarte puts Espanyol 1-0 up. 77 mins....and I didn't have time to put up Negredo's goal before the (in)famous Mr Tcherychev scored a second for Valencia. Stand down the taxi! Final score 2-1 to Valencia. He must now be next in line for Van Gaal's job!

With Real outclassing Bilbao (4-2) and Atléti squeezing past at Getafe (0-1), Barcelona need a win against Celta to keep the momentum going.
But, at half-time, it's 1-1. Another exquisite Messi free-kick cancelled out by a Guidetti penalty.
(Incidentally, Barca's game-in-hand at Gijon will be on Wednesday night at 6.30 (Spanish).)
How to break the deadlock.....Messi dink to Suarez who volleys in for 2-1. (60 mins)
Determination...Messi rides 3 tackles, Neymar chases to the goal line to cut the ball back and Suarez races in to put it over the line. 3-1. (75mins)
But, despite all the contributions of those three, my vote for MOTM would go to Andres Iniesta. Ran the midfield....chased seemingly lost causes (and won) and kept the momentum going the whole game. Subbed at 77 mins and gets a standing ovation from the entire 80,000 in the Camp Nou.
Dead heat - Suarez gets his hat-trick so we'll have to share the MOTM honours! 4-1. (82 mins) Messi dummies a penalty for Suarez to run in and score!
They're coming thick and fast now. Suarez nudges ahead in the honours ranking by providing a perfect lob for Rakitic to volley in for No. 5 5-1. (84 mins)
90 mins and Neymar gets his goal at last - Suarez the provider again. 6-1
Was there ever a doubt they'd win? Final score 6-1.

Just got in to find Barca are 2-1 up at Gijon.
with Messi on for a hat-trick.
And....it's another penalty for Barca. Suarez to take it....and it's saved.
It's only a 50% success rate this season!
Barca need to practice regular penalties or keep the tricks going!
Will it be costly?
Not a chance....66 mins and a solo goal from Suarez.
Finishes 1-3 to Barca who are now 6 points clear.
31 unbeaten games and Messi's 300th goal!

A BIG weekend for Barca. Winning 2-1 in The Canaries whilst Real Madrid and Atléti could only draw! So Barca move EIGHT points clear at the top.
In mid-table, Gary Neville's Valencia won their third game on the trot and he must be enjoying the Cava now.
