I know it's hard to believe but It's only just over two weeks to go before the new season starts and the first game will be a baptism of fire for the new look Mazarron FC as they take on Sangonera La Verde Club de Fútbol.
I have many memories of the battles that we have had with Sangonera in the past and Mazarron have not always come out on top especially when visiting their intimidation ground and very boisterous fans, thank goodness the first encounter will be at home and give out boys time to gel as a team.
Sangonera played in the preferente Autonomica last season coming 6th some 10 points behind the final promotion place.
Like Mazarron they have been active in the transfer market bringing in at least 9 new player and have had a good pre season workout winning 3 of the 4 games played so far.
It will be interesting to see how Mazarron get on against Alcantarilla next Tuesday in the pre season game as Sangonera beat them 0-2 last week and so it will be a good gauge as to how this first encounter will go, that is if you can put any store in pre season games.
So match details, as far as we have them are:-
MAZARRON FC v Sangonera La Verde Club de Fútbol.
Scheduled for SUNDAY 6th SEPTEMBER
To be played at our home ground.
More details as I get them.

LIKE FOR LIKE
Just like Sangonera we beat Alcantarilla 0-2 in a pre season friendly so it could be an even game.

There has been heavy rain in the Mazarron area overnight and this morning, but has stopped now.
As of this moment, 10.34am, the game tonight is defiantly ON.
Dependent on the weather a pitch inspection will take place an hour prior to kickoff which is at 7pm.
I am in contact with Jose who will update me if there is any change.
My advise would be to bring an umbrella and a cloth to wipe you seat.
See you tonight, I hope.

FINAL SCORE MAZARRON FC 0 v SANGONERA CF 2
After very heavy overnight rain and dark skies overhead this first match of the season was in some doubt right up until kickoff, but with the officials happy with the conditions and the excellent playing surface it was all systems go. And Mazarron FC started their new adventure in the preferente facing one of the fancied sides for promotion this season in Sangonera CF in a rain effected game.
You could tell that this was the first game of the season with both teams players seeming unsure of their new team mates and despite pre season games, it was time to get some rust out of those legs.
And it wasn't until the 23rd minute that the first clear cut chance and it fell to Sangonera but the shot looped over the bar.
Sangonera CF had a player in their number 14 who was outstanding and it was down to Mounir to keep him quiet which at times he was hard pressed to do so. And it was from this source that the next attack from the visitor originated but he fluff his lines when he had a clear opening on goal and the shot was saved.
Enrique who was having an excellent mid field game latched onto a loose ball and from just outside of the box drew an outstanding save, thwarted again.
As the first half came to and end Mazarron had one last chance through Jose, the new number 9, but just failed to make contact from an excellent Alfonso cross.
HALF TIME MAZARRON FC 0 SANGONERA CF 0
And it as Mazarron who started on the front foot at the start of the second half with a free kick right on the edge of the box which was deflected and looked certain for the back of the net but the ball was hacked off the line. This was followed by a concerted period of attacking football by the home side.
The Sangonera keeper was called on a couple of minutes later making a really good save following a corner kick. The Sangonera keeper needs an early mention for the outstanding game he had,
On 59 minutes it was Sangonera CF who came close with quick interchanging of passes only stopped by an excellent save by Antonio, Mazarrons new goal minder was another keeper who was having an outstanding game.
Mazarron number 8, Palote, who was making a nuisance of himself in the opposition half had two shots saved on the bounce which denied Mazarron the opening goal. And so it was somewhat of a surprise when he was shortly replaced by number 12 Silverio.
A good chance for Sangonera was up next with a right wing cross to the far post which was pushed out by Antonio but it almost reach a waiting Sangonera striker but the ball just slipped by the post.
Mazarron almost took the lead in the 65th minute from a corner which was met by Jaunlu but his free header skimmed the bar. Enrique was then replaced by Cristian.
There was a constant battle between Mounir and the Sangonera number 14 all game with both players getting the upper hand at times but the time that Mounir lost out which led to the first Sangonera goal. Mounir was pushing forward on the right wing at the time when he lost the ball to his opponent who slipped it forward a striker who was stopped, illegally, by Jaun Andreo who "took one for the team" From the resultant free kick from the edge of the box a wicked deflection looped the ball over the stranded home keeper and the ball flew into the net.
MAZARRON FC 0 SANGONERA CF 1
Mazarron then threw caution to the wind and pushed forward and the visiting keeper pulled off a number of fine saves to deny the home side. Jaunlu was replaced by Juanma who fitted into the attacking line and looked good during the time he was on the pitch.
Mazarrons best chance to rescue the game came in the 86th minute and it came from a free kick right on the edge of the box for a foul that appeared to have been committed inside the penalty area. Sangonera were on the back foot at this time and a beautiful delivered free kick was cleared off the line but with Mazarron committed attacking this left their defence exposed and it was the classic "sucker punch" goal which killed the game. The ball cleared off the line was hacked forward to two Sangonera strikers giving the Mazarron keeper no chance.
MAZARRON FC 0 SANGONERA 2
The final whistle was blown shortly afterward.
I feel that these were two well matched sides and on another day the result could have been easily reversed. Such is football.

On the Spanish football site Trecera.com they have a "team of the week" for all the senior teams in Murcia.
Not surprisingly they have the Sangonera goal keeper Gines in the "team of the week" which is no suprise as he kept them in the game, denying Mazarron FC time after time.
