BUT WHEN WILL IT BE PLAYED?
FINAL GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON
MAZARRON FC v CD LUMBRERAS
SCHEDULED FOR SUNDAY 17th MAY 2015
FOLLOWING A DISPUTE BETWEEN THE SPANISH FOOTBALL LEAGUE, THE GOVERNMENT AND TV COMPANIES OVER WHO GETS WHAT WHEN IT COMES TO CASH ALL, AND I MEAN ALL, FOOTBALL GAMES ARE SUSPENDED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. THIS MEANS THAT, AT THIS TIME, I AM UNABLE TO BRING TO YOU THE EXACT MATCH DETAILS FOR OUR LAST GAME OF THE REGULAR SEASON.
Its hard to believe but next weekend marks the last game of the regular season when we 'entertain' CD Lumbreras and when I say 'entertain' it was sure entertaining when we played them at their place earlier in the season but more of that later.
CD Lumbreras currently sit in 12th place although that's an improvement on their 15th place finish last season. But they have certainly struggled again this time round having lost far more games than they have won and are in a minus goal difference situation. It's only the high number of draw that appears to have kept our Northern neighbours afloat.
Last weekend they were at home to next to bottom club Sucina when they scraped an expected win but by the narrow margin of 2-1
LUMBRERAS PLAYERS TO WATCH OUT FOR
CD Lumbreras have a 'hot shot' striker by the name of Diego Garcia LARIO who has a massive 7 goals to his name this season and their next top striker has 5, from that perhaps you can see one of their problems, the other one is their defence which leak goals like a sieve.
WHAT HAPPENED WHEN WE LAST MET?
Well you can forget the Mayweather - Pacquiao fight, our away game against Lumbreras topped that dust up in Las Vegas, but it stared in a different vein, and it carried on like that until the last few minute when a vicious attack on Tolo led to a game stopping brawl, well here's what occurred on 'fight night at Lumbreras':
CD LUMBRERAS 1 MAZARRON FC 2 (3.1.2015)
Mazarron gained an important 2-1 away win at Lumbreras but had to wait for the deliberations of the Murcia federation into a major fracas two minutes from time which led to the referee abandoning the game.
Mazarron started brightly with Tolo starting a move with a nice pass to Stevens earning an early corner then Liders had a chance following another good ball from Tolo who later had shot just over the bar but despite being in control Mazarron, the first half ended with the teams goalless.
Mazarron deservedly took the lead in the 50th minute when a Tolo’s free kick nestled in the bottom corner of the net with the Lumbreras keeper a mere spectator but the lead lasted only five minutes, however, when a goalmouth scramble saw Lumbreras force the ball home in very fortunate circumstances.
Mazarron were now creating chance after chance when on 85 minutes a well worked free kick routine between Monti and Manu straight from the training ground finished with the latter driving the ball into the net to give Mazarron a deserved lead for the second time.
THEN THE FUN AND GAMES BEGAN.
With two minutes to go Tolo was viciously fouled buy a now frustrated Lumbreras player with the number 3 on his back. This 'assault' left Tolo prostrate on the ground and tempers overflowed, resulting in an unpleasant melee involving players and Lumbreras supporters this caused the referee to rush from the pitch with the other officials. Tolo was eventually helped to the dressing room with badly bruised ribs.
Although the home side denied the offences, photo's taken by Dave 'the lens' Perks of this nasty assault and subsequent brawl was used as evidence against them at the Murcia federation hearing which led to the perpetrator later being banned for 8 games with two other Lumbreras players also receiving lengthy suspensions and Mazarron FC being awarded all 3 points.
MAZARRON FC CURRENT FORM
After 5 wins on the bounce during which they score 20 goals, an average of 4 a game, Mazarron FC travelled to Los Alcazares needing just a single point to confirm their play off place and the boys certainly didn't disappoint their travelling fans with an excellent second half display running out 0-2 winners. Confirming their 4th place in the league and progressing into the playoffs.
The biggest surprise of the day was seeing league top scorer, Tolo, Manu, Antonio Clares, Conejo and Mateo sat on the subs bench for the whole of the first half with players from our excellent juvenile squad replacing them. I appears that this was down to poor time keeping reasons and Javi, the Mazarron coach, I think was making a point to a number of players. Fortunately this didn't effect the outcome with all of the players coming off the bench, except for 'keeper' Conejo, to make a telling contribution in the second half, Manu even receiving the 'man of the match' reward.
