IS THIS A CASE OF DOUBLE STANDARDS BY THE SPAINISH FOOTBALL FEDERATION? WHAT'S GOOD FOR ONE SIDE OF MADRID IS SURELY THE SAME FOR THE OTHER?
Atletico Madrid will not be able to register any new players until January 2018 after the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld their appeal against a FIFA transfer ban.
Atletico, along with city rivals Real Madrid, were handed two-window transfer bans in January 2016 for multiple breaches of global football's rules on the registration of under-18s and both clubs failed in their appeals to FIFA last September.
The two Spanish giants then took their cases to the CAS but, while Real saw their ban halved to one transfer window in December, Atletico announced on Thursday that the only reduction they had been given was regarding their financial penalty - down from £720,000 to £440,000.
A club statement read: "CAS maintains the prohibition to register players until January of 2018.
"They partially upheld the appeal presented by Atletico de Madrid, reducing the financial penalty but maintaining the prohibition of registering licenses this summer."

ALMOST AS GOOD AS FOREST
Congratulations to Real Madrid on their back-to-back European titles, becoming the second team to do so since Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest Football Club 🤣

SPAIN COMES TO NOTTINGHAM
Nottingham Forest will face Spanish side Girona at the City Ground on Tuesday, July 25 (7.45pm).
Manager Mark Warburton was keen to tie down a fourth pre-season outing for the Reds.
And that comes in the form of another home clash, against the newly promoted La Liga club, with Girona having clinched a return to the top flight with a second-place finish last season, behind champions Levante.
It will be Girona's first season in La Liga, with the club having flirted with promotion in four of the last five seasons, before finally making the step up.

RIP OFF SPANISH FOOTBALL
Does this remind you of the ‘Dia del club’ rip off we have recently seen?
MUFC sending emails to Spain-bound fans saying Sevilla refusing to drop £89 price - the most expensive in MUFC history.
MU will increase price for Sevilla fans to £89 and use £35 difference to subsidise MU fans. Sevilla fans, embarrassed at their club's prices, will now be stung.

Interesting story...............
The Policía Nacional has initiated a macro-operation against an alleged plot dedicated to match-fixing in the Segunda B and Third Division of Spanish football, according to EL MUNDO sources of the investigation. At least ten people have been arrested in Badajoz, Barcelona, Albacete and Jerez. The 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons are being investigated along with the participation of two former footballers who would be in contact with Chinese betting houses. The operation is led by Agents of the Specialized and Violent Crimes Unit (UDEV) of the Police, in collaboration with members of the Technological Investigation Unit and Europol.
(El Mundo 19.2.2018)
.....the investigation seems to be centreing on the Tercera division in Extremadura (Badajoz).

SPANISH FOOTBALL COMING TO THE TRENT SIDE, BUT NOT AT FOREST
NOTTS COUNTY aim to make ex-Spain winger Diego Capel the best-paid player in League Two history.
The ambitious Magpies have offered the former Sevilla and Sporting Lisbon star an amazing £10,000-a-week deal with an extra £5,000 for every game he plays.

SPAIN VS ARGENTINA
What a great game! 6-1 to Spain but competitive from the first to last minutes.
What more could you expect with Argentina on the field of Diego Simeone in Madrid?
If it weren't a 'friendly' there would have been a handful of tarjetas rojas.
A shame that Messi and Aguero didn't get a run out.
Hat trick for Isco and an assist for de Gea.

9 mins gone and it's game on........
Real cut apart by simple football....
Sergi Roberto sprints up the right wing and sends across an inch-perfect pass for Suarez to put away.
No Real defenders got anywhere near the two of them!
Barcelona 1-0 Real Madrid.
15 mins and it's all square again!
Ronaldo out runs Piqué to put the ball over the line.
Barcelona 1-1 Real Madrid.
44 mins and Sergi Roberto heads down the tunnel with a red card for thumping Marcelo! Barca down to 10 men.
Half time.....1-1.
52 mins...it's that man again! Suarez beats Varane and slips a typical Barca pass for Messi to easily put past Navas.
2-1.
72 mins....great movement from Benzema gives Bale the opening to slot home Real's second.
2-2
77 mins....lucky Barca! A clear foul on Marcelo by Jordi Alba in the penalty area goes unpunished.
FINAL SCORE 2-2.
Barca hang on and keep the unbeaten season alive. Next up, Villarreal visit the Camp Nou on Tuesday.

WORLD CUP MANAGER BITES THE DUST
Fernando Hierro, who led Spain at the 2018 World Cup, has stepped down as coach and will not return to his former role as sporting director.
Hierro was placed in temporary charge of the team after Julen Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the tournament.
However, the 2010 world champions were knocked out on penalties by hosts Russia in the last 16.
Hierro, 50, has decided to "seek new horizons", according to the Spanish football federation (RFEF)
At least he was in charge of more games than England’s ‘big Sam’

SPAIN NAMES NEW BOSS AND IT’S NOT ROBERTO
Luis Enrique has been named as the new coach of Spain.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has announced the former Barcelona boss will be the full-time successor to Julen Lopetegui.
Lopetegui was sacked on the eve of the World Cup after accepting a post at Real Madrid, with Fernando Hierro taking temporary charge at the tournament in Russia.
Enrique, 48, won two LaLiga titles and the Champions League with Barca before stepping down last year. He has previously coached at Roma and Celta Vigo.
As a player he won 62 caps for Spain and played at three World Cups as well as winning Olympic gold in 1992.

(El Mundo 19.2.2018) .....the investigation seems to be centreing on the Tercera division in Extremadura (Badajoz). Remember Javi Soto? One of our old 'keepers whose main claim to fame was clearing a ball right through one of the apartment windows at the 'Rubial' in Águilas. He subsequently moved to play there before moving on to Atletico Pulpileño. And seems to have been caught up in this match-fixing investigation and, along with several other local players, has been 'interviewed' by the cops. Local press are reporting that 2 Murcian Tercera games are being investigated. Real Murcia B (Imperial) vs Águilas (Dec 2016) and Cieza vs Huércal Overa (Nov 2017). Javi Soto was the 'keeper in the Dec 2016 Águilas game and was shipped out by the club afterwards when rumours of a 'fix' were circulated. A key protagonist seems to be the Águilas player Javi Lopez, who is the brother of the Pulpileño coach! He also seems to have been at Huercal-Overa. Alongside Javi Lopez, a key name in the frame is one Ivan Moreno who once played for Real Murcia before moving down to Extremadura. Oh what a tangled web they weave.
