NEXT HOME GAME
MAZARRON FC v CD ESPARRAGAL
Another tough weekend ahead for our boys as we entertain CD Esparragal in a crucial game at the municipal stadium.
Following last weekends results Esparragal sit in 4th place whilst Mazarron are close behind in 5th position.
LAST WEEKEND
As you will know Mazarron FC were away at league leaders Minerva without the benefit of our top goal scorer Tolo who was suspended after picking up his 5th yellow card the previous weekend against Juvenia.
Despite the lads best efforts and battling against the officials, who appeared to be on a mission to deny Mazarron anything, as well as facing the leagues undefeated top team the game finished as a 3-0 win for Minerva but don't let the scoreline fool you this was a good performance by our boys.
Meanwhile Esparragal were at home to bottom side Sucina with the inevitable result of a 2-1 win for Esparragal.
LAST TIME WE MET
In early November 2014 Mazarron made their way to Esparragal and here is a résumé of what happened:
The first surprise of the day was that Tolo, Mazarron’s main striker was missing, apparently he had not been training and was therefore dropped from the side. Further enquiry established that this was because Tolo had not trained during the week. Conejo, Mazarrons regular keeper, was also absent being replaced by Carrasco.
On 14 minutes and after constant pressure the Esparragal team thought they had scored after some desperate defending by Mazarron Carrasco was found clutching the ball on the Mazarron goal line after a free header.
During the period leading up to the half-hour mark there were quite a few Mazarron attacks, usually led by, the now departed, Cristian, but there were no clear-cut chances or direct shots on goal for the Esparragal defence to have to deal with.
Clearly, the better chances had fallen to Esparragal, but they had not been able to capitalize upon them. The referee blew bang on the 45 minute mark, with a Esparragal shot just sailing over the Mazarron bar. Having said that, this had been a much better half for Mazarron than any of the previous three matches.
Half-Time: 0-0
The second half started with Mazarron making a substitution as Juanillo was replaced by Esteban (Steven). In the 53rd minute it was Esteban who was released down the right and he passed a couple of defenders down to the Esparragal bye-line, he got a good shot away but the angle was too tight and the Esparragal goal minder was able to gather the ball.
In the 60th minute came the only goal of the game but, unfortunately, it came for Esparragal and not Mazarron. A through ball from the Esparragal midfield bisected the Mazarron defence and there was an attacker to pass it into the Mazarron net. 1-0
Esparragal defence held firm whilst a couple of Esparragal attacks tested the Mazarron defence, but they were dealt with quite easily.
From the 85th minute Mazarron mounted attack after attack on the Esparragal defence; with all of the forwards and the substitutes showing up well in the opposition penalty area. However, all of this came far too late and the referee blew with only a minute of added time.
Full-time: 1-0
