Next away game
SFC MINERVA v MAZARRÓN FC
Scheduled for Saturday 28th February or Sunday 1st March 2015
Maybe, just maybe the hardest game of the season and to make matters harder it's away to SFC Minerva who have either topped our league or been there or there about all season, so can we cause an upset? And this is the first of three games against sides that sit above Mazarron FC, three games which could make or break our season.
We met Minerva in Mazarron last October and they walked away with the 3 points following a 0-2 win and here is what happened:
Minerva gave a very early warning of why they were second in the league because within two minutes they had shot twice on the Mazarron goal, their dead ball/free kick placement being far superior to that of Mazarron throughout the game.
On 23 minutes a head injury to Enrique robbed Mazarron of a stalwart defender, as he was taken to a local clinic to have his wound treated with Israel replacing him but in the 38th minute the Mazarron defence was breached by a header from a Minerva attacker which Conejo was unable to reach. 0-1
The remainder of the first half was uneventful and the referee blew for half-time having only added 2 extra minutes, strange when the injury to Enrique took at least 5 minutes. On the whole though it was thought that the referee had a good game, and on most occasions got the call right.
Half-time 0-1
From the kick-off Mazarron mounted an attack and Israel was quite clearly fouled in the Minerva penalty area but it wasn’t given.
For the next 15 minutes or so with Minerva pressed forward interspersed with the occasional Mazarron attack. Then in the 60th minute a cross from the right wing on a Minerva attack was intercepted by a Mazarron defender only for it to bounce off his body and be caught by Conejo. The referee thought that this constituted a back pass and blew his whistle accordingly.
The incident took place between the penalty spot and the Mazarron goal-line. This free-kick was cleared, but unfortunately only to the edge of the Mazarron penalty area and as the Mazarron defenders were rushing out of their goal area a Minerva attacker struck the ball cleanly and it passed Conejo without stopping! 0-2
With about ten minutes to go there were a couple of further attempts by Tolo and Alfonso on the Minerva goal, but they were either saved or went wide.
After this the match petered out with only the last substitution of Javi for Diego, and a booking for Martin who managed to welcome Tico back to Mazarron with an extremely clumsy foul on him. Incidentally Minerva feature two of our old boys in Tico and Moha with Tico having a good game.
Full time 0-2
WHERE DO THEY PLAY?
Minerva play at Alumbres near to Cartagena in a stadium situated amongst the numerous petrol storage tanks. Their ground has an artificial pitch, seating down one side, canteen facilities and a large car park outside of the ground.
The distance from Camposol to the ground is 58KM but as it's almost motorway all the way it will only take 40 minutes or so.
For those of you travelling independently the co ordinates to the ground, which is called EL SECANTE, are 37° 36' 08" N, 00° 54' 47" W
Details of the supporters away coach will be posted on the forum and Los amigos Facebook site when they are available.
As Minerva play in Red shirts with blue stripes, blue shorts and socks I have been told that Mazarron will be wearing their 3rd strip which is BLACK.
LAST WEEKEND
Minerva were at second from bottom Sucina and of course there was never a doubt as to what the result would be, but it was closer than you can imagine, Sucina 0 Minerva 1
Meanwhile Mazarron faced Juvenia at home with the final score being 1-1
These two results meant that Minerva sit in 1st position in the league. Whilst Mazarron currently hold onto joint 4th place and still in contention for a play off spot.
