LAST GAME OF THE 2013-14 SEASON So here we are at the end of a long and eventful season with plenty of highs and some very, very big lows. But on the bright side we will finish in a very respectable mid table position, solvent and with every reason to look forward to a great 2014-15 season. Our final opponents are Soho-Med against whom, over the last couple of seasons, we have had good and bad results. Soho-Med moved into their new ground which has a 3G Astro turf pitch and is just up from the dirt pitch where we played last season, at the start of the 2013-14 year and having been their to watch a friendly between our two side I can say that it's not bad at all, but more of that late. Soho-Med play in vertical black and yellow stripes so we should be in RED for this game. We last encountered Soho-Med in late January 2014 having just stolen their top scorer, Tolo, from them but as part of the agreement he didn't play in that game, will he play at the weekend?. That game finished 1-1 but again it was one of those matches where Mazarron FC let 2 points slip from their grasp and how many times did that happen this year? Here is what happened: Mazarron were without some key players for a variety of reasons but this should not really serve as an excuse such as why was the talents of Ruben were wasted by being played in a wide position? This left Cecilio to plough the inevitable lone furrow up front.
There were early opportunities for Mazarron with a long range shot from Cecilio drawing a good save from Mazarron’s former keeper Jose Iker, and a powerful header from Juan Andreo which went just wide from a corner, but these were few and far between.
Soho.Medi took the lead, against the run of play, before the interval when Moha was incorrectly adjudged to have brought down an opponent in the area and Sergio gave the now departed Mazarron keeper Noguerra no chance with a well taken penalty.
Mazarron had most of the play in the second half. An overhead shot from Cecilio was cleared off the line and Jose Ruben headed over the bar from a corner. Then, following an intricate spell of passing down the right between Cecilio and Juanillo, the latter came down in the box.
Eventually a penalty was awarded but Alfonso’s powerful spot kick was well saved by Jose Iker. Shortly afterwards, however, Mazarron equalised when a long free kick from the right was headed home by Enrique, his first goal for the Club.
Soho.Medi defended soundly for the rest of the game as Mazarron searched in vain for the elusive winning goal.
Team: Noguerra, Ishmael, Juan Andreo, Alcaraz, Dani, Alfonso, Moha (Gilberto), Enrique, Randrey (Juanillo), Jose Ruben, Cecilio.CURRENT STATS:There is a good chance that Soho-Med will find them selves fighting for a promotion place by the time that this game kicks off so it should be a cracker. 4th Soho-Med P 33 W 19 D 3 L 11 GF 68 GA 38 Points 60 11th Mazarron FC P 33 W 14 D 3 L 16 GF 73 GA 61 Points 45 So 'goals for' are very close but once again it's the 'goals conceded' that have let Mazarron FC down. Last weekend Mazarron FC lost 3-5 at home whilst Soho-Med lost 2-1 away at Esparragal. SANCTIONS/SUSPENSIONSThese will be circulated when they are released by the Murcian federation. DIRECTIONS TO THE GROUND.For those of you who are travelling independently the grounds co-ordinates are 37° 37' 19" N, 01° 00' 13" W with the ground being located near to Eroski super store in Cartagena. The stadium is on Calle Rubi in Cartagena in the middle of the Mediterraneo urbanisation. The stadium is just 45KM or 36 minutes away from Camposol. FACILITIESAs you can imagine, with a new ground you have new facilities and when I was there for the pre season game it had a cracking canteen, toilets and up to date ammenities for fans to enjoy a great final day out.

On an overcast and damp day the travelling supporters of Mazarron FC descended upon the home ground of Soho-Med for the final fixture of the 2013-14 season. This match was played with a background of Mazarron FC in a safe mid table position but with Soho-Med still having the chance of promotion through default by finishing 4th in the table, so the sides took to the pitch with different agendas.
Javi, the Mazarron FC manager, continues with his thoughts on next season by introducing young local Mazarron players to the team although this week his hand was somewhat forced with a number of very late withdrawals from the team meaning that Mazarron started the game with just the 11 players on the pitch and no sub's.
Javi deployed Cecillio in a central defensive position again and he seems to be taking to the role previously filled by Diego and "Sam' and didn't look out of place.
Pablo, the new young keeper, made his return between the sticks after his one game suspension and his abilities and skills bely his youth, defiantly one for the future.
Facing Mazarron were two of our old boys in Panacho and Jose Iker in goal. Also within the crowd was our old manager Antonio Lorente who made a fuss of the visiting Mazarron supporters which was nice.
The match was well controlled throughout by the officials in this new stadium which is still awaiting completion after being open for a year, the Cartagena council seems to have run out of cash and so there was no seating in the new covered stand, pity.
Soho-Med, now playing in a changed strip of vertical blue and black stripes kicked off and for the first 5 minutes it was the usual cat and mouse game from both sides trying out each others strengths and weaknesses but on 6 minutes Jose Ruben had a glorious chance to increase his goal tally for the season but from a pin point pass from the impressive Dani, Jose Ruben hit his shot high over the bar.
From the resultant goal kick Soho-Med took the lead, the speculative kick long up field was met by a Soho-Med striker who was surrounded by three Mazarron defenders who he took on, beat and put his shot wide of the desperately diving Pablo. A well taken goal but the Mazarron defence have to look at themselves and wonder how the hell he was allowed to get his shot away.
1-0
On 14 minutes Jose Ruben, who was receiving a lot of attention from the Soho-Med defenders, was brought down right on the edge of the penalty area. Up steps Soho-Med old boy Tolo who smashed his shot just inside the right hand upright only to see Jose Iker frantically diving and pushing the ball around the post for a corner.
Over comes the corner and Cecillio, who had come up for the set play managed to miss from 3 meters out with his head, another chance gone.
A few minutes later an incident led to one of the main talking points of the afternoon when a Soho-Med player clearing his lines played the ball back to Jose Ikea in the goal, for some reason he picked the ball up and a foul was awarded for a back pass just 3 meters from the home sides goal line and directly in front of goal. After much arguing pushing and shoving the whole of the Soho-Med team lined up on their goal line and Alfonso and Tolo stood over the ball. The intention was for Alfonso to tap the ball to Tolo for him to smash it into the goal, but best laid plans of mice and men.................. Alfonso tapped the ball over to Tolo who wasn't ready for it, the defence ran out and the danger was cleared. Another chance gone.
The next 10 minutes saw constant pressure from Mazarron but they were unable to crack the home side defence who had two excellent headed chance themselves after break away attacks but both chances were scorned when scoring seemed an easier option.
Soho-Med's second goal came through one of these counter attacks as Mazarron sort to level the scores. A long through ball from the home sides defence caught the visiting defence napping and down to a one on one between the Soho-Med striker and young Pablo. Just and I mean just inside the box Pablo tackle the onrushing striker who he brought down, the linesman flagged for a penalty. For some bizarre reason Pablo only received a yellow card for this foul and was able to continue in goal and try and save the penalty that he had just given away.
But who steps up to take it? Jose Iker the home side keeper and the plan nearly back fired as his kick was partly saved by Pablo but the ball trickled over the line.
2-0
Two further opportunities were presented before the half time whistle, one for each side. The first fell to Tolo who was put through by Juanillio but was fouled on the edge of the box. Tolo got up, dusted himself down and again his goal bound shot was excellently saved by Jose Iker.
On the stroke of half time Panacho was put clean through and with only the keeper to beat hit his shot wide right, what a miss.
HALF TIME (AD) SOHO-MED 2 MAZARRON FC 0
The teams came out for the second half with Soho-Med making numerous changes throughout the half but Mazarron sticking to the 11 on the pitch, not that they had any choice, but it was Mazarron who dominated the remainder of the game with Soho-Med seemingly happy to sit back and hit on the counter attack a plan which worked as they snuffed out any chance of a Mazarron revival until the 39th minute of the second half.
At this time Juanillio, who had been tormenting the Soho-Med defenders all day with his speed and ball control, stroked a brilliant cross to Jose Ruben who's header sailed just over the bar with the keeper well beaten.
The final action of the day was the usually reliable Cecillio missing an absolute sitter on the stroke of the final whistle when he placed his header to the left of the goal again with Jose Iker well beaten.
FINAL SCORE (AD) SOHO-MED 2 MAZARRON FC 0
A score line that could have been so different if we had only took our chance, but that's football.
So Mazarron FC finish in a respectable 12th place safe in mid table. Solvent, unlike some, a new manager with new ideas preparing for the 2014-15 season, I can't wait.
Team:
Pablo (GK, cadete) Dani, Cecillio, Alfonso, Fran (Juvenile) Jose Ruben, Ismail (cadete) Domingo (cadete) Gines (cadete) Tolo, Juanillio.
Man of the match:
Dani

I think that most of us will be disapointed at finishing in 12th place out of 18 teams. We were all expecting more from the team and to finish in the top 3 and gain promotion. We have ended up in vertually the same position as last season, Lets hope and prey that we can keep hold of the few good players, Tolo, Jose Ruben, Cecillio and Alfonso, these players give 100% in every game. Roll on next season and hopefully the club will gain promotion, we will then see a better standard of football each week, but i dont think playing more Mazarron based players is the answer.
