MAZARRON FC 2 NV ESTUDIANTES DE MURCIA CF 0
Mazarron retained their 100% home record against an Estudiantes side currently at the foot of the league but it was not one of their best performances.
They started brightly with Salva Ballesta and Zurdo sending in dangerous crosses which caused problems for the visitors defence and took the lead on 14 minutes. A free kick from Jose Da on the right was only half cleared and when the ball was played back into the area Adrian Campoy's header was fumbled by the keeper but the Mazarron skipper was first to react and fired home from close range.
Despite their lowly position Estudiantes were playing some neat football but it was Mazarron who increased the lead after 25 minutes. Jose Da cleverly floated the ball towards the corner of the net where leading scorer Dani Barrelis was on hand to apply the finishing touch with his fourth goal of the season.
As Mazarron for some reason took their foot of the pedal, the visitors dominated the remainder of the first half. After 29 minutes a break down the left forced a good save from Antonio Pena at the near post. On 33 minutes a long range effort went wide but Pena distinguished himself shortly afterwards with another acrobatic save, diving to his left to keep out a fierce drive following a throw in.
A minute later Adrian Campoy had to show his defensive qualities with a last ditch intervention as an Estudiantes striker was about to shoot . Little was seen of Mazarron as an attacking force and they were giving the ball away far too often in midfield.
The second half continued in the same vein with Pena and Adrian Campoy combining to thwart another Estudiantes attack and then Mazarron's outstanding goalkeeper was called into action again in the 53rd and 54th minutes to make two more good saves.
At the other end Basi showed his pace and strength with a surging run from the halfway line but slightly overran the ball at the last minute and the Estudiantes keeper was able to smother his effort. Dani Barrelis and Diego combined well on the right but the resulting cross was cut out.
Estudiantes continued to dominate possession in the last fifteen minutes without really troubling the Mazarron defence again. The game ended on a sour note for the home team when Adrian Campoy was sent off in the 89th minute for a second yellow card.
After the first 25 minutes, Mazarron were far too defensive minded, were caught in possession far too often in midfield and left lone strike Dani Barrelis too isolated up front with little support. Having said all that three wins from the first five games in the higher division is a more than satisfactory start and the victory takes Mazarron up to seventh in the league table.
Team: Antonio Pena; Josema (Alberto); Adrian Campoy; Nacho; Zurdo; Andreo; Jose Da (Chicho); Diego; Basi; Dani Barrelis; Salva Ballesta (Chino).
Man of the Match: Antonio Pena.

Despite getting the early bath, Adrian Campoy made it into the TOTW:
